Hey Sam, I'm a sailor from Connecticut who relocated to the desert (Albuquerque) for my day job (teaching college). I'm living vicariously through your vids! Thanks giving me my weekly dose of the water virtually. Smooth sailing, dude!

I'm looking forward to the how to videos. I've had fou sailboats myself in San Diego California. And I've done a few deliveries one in particular from fort Lauderdale Florida to North shore Oahu haleiwa Hawaii. But I still consider myself a novice sailor and would really enjoy some education.

Can’t wait for the “how to” videos. I had a 1987 27’ islander on Lake mead in Las Vegas. Eventually sold it and some 20 year old kids had it shipped to marina del ray and sailed it to Hawaii and back!! Anyway watching your videos makes me regret selling her. Would love to get back into it someday.

Somewhat unintuitive but that is probably one of the best places to get a engine problem. You can use boat hook to keep away from the rocks and it gets steep pretty fast. There is also a lot of people to help

Beautiful country, Sam. I'm loving your adventures this season. The time with Sven Yrvind is especially sweet! Your mention of sailing where the wind would carry you brought back a memory. My wife and I got to spend a week on Maine's Penobscot Bay, a few years back, on Schooner Heritage, and we traveled just as you are, setting course by the wind and the tides. I checked the weather prediction, one morning, on my cell phone, to find that it had changed overnight, and that the wind was going to clock around 180 degrees! I mentioned it to our captain, who immediately revised his sail plan for the day. It was a sweet moment!

What ended up being the fuel issue? We had our motor die because our fuel lift pump went out. Diagnosed everything but the pump, similar issues you had. Very annoying, but got a spare pump rigged up for ~$30 to get us going.

Great channel. Always looking forward to the new videos.
We have a Beneteau 461 and a couple years ago the engine started cutting out. Always at the wrong time. Filters were always clean no water or anything. Eventually found out I had algae in the tank. The balls of algae would get on the end of the pickup tube and choke the fuel supply. As a temporary repair I put a tee in the fuel line between the tank and filter with a shutoff valve. Just prior to starting the engine I would blow down the line to make sure it was clear. During the winter I cleaned out the tank and started the next season with fresh fuel

What you do is mount a Garelik outboard mount for your dinghy motor or to drop down in case of main engine failure. It’s works well as a thruster for docking as well. I run a 20 hp tohatsu efi with auto tilt and start as my main engine on a 11” travel arm Garelik. The motor gets awesome mileage too...unbelievable. It’s on a 8,000 lb Erickson 29. Does about 5-6 knots at 2400 rpm. It’ll charge batteries for auto pilot and refrigeration. There are several other advantages to running outboards. The only disadvantage is horsepower and no dinghy davits. So I look out for currents and run a small dinghy 2.2 meter Avon with Maxi Marine lifters. I like the small rib because it’s manageable, fast, and I can pick it up Uber my head when getting it to the deck. Cheers! Don’t have to much fun with those hot Norwegian girls!

Hello Sam! Greetings from Peenemünde on the island of Usedom in Germany. I enjoy watching all of your videos. If you sail to Germany, I recommend you to visit Usedom with its famous imperial baths and Peenemünde with rocket research by Wernherr von Braun until 1945, who was later also successfully active at Nasa. I am here in Peenemünde in the Peenemünde marina right at the mouth of the Peenemünde on the Baltic Sea. By the way, until 2 years ago I lived in Leirvik / Stord near Haugesund where Erik Aanderaa also lives in Haugesund. I might be sailing back to Norway later this year or in the spring of next year with my sailing yacht Seawalker. Maybe we'll see each other in the Peenemünde marina. Mooring fees are also very cheap here. Greetings from Bernardo Michael of the Seawalker.
