A bit over 30 years ago, when I was working on US carrier designs in support of NAVSEA, we were carefully watching as the USSR laid down the hull for their first nuclear powered supercarrier design. But it was being built in Ukraine, where much of the Soviet shipbuilding expertise was located. It never got more than about half built before they gave up and started to dismantle it. I have no idea why they gave up, but their history of carrier design and construction is dismal at best.
And despite their completion of earlier designs like the Kiev, (there's some irony) they have never really been successful in deploying and operating a carrier air group.

Fun fact, the name 'storm is a contraction of 'shit storm', which is descriptive of the derision any thinking person has of Russia's ability to manufacture anything like a modern warship.
I love how the Russians keep doing this stuff in the face of reality, although my amusement is tempered by my concern for their mental well being. I mean seriously.

How to Russian Military Industrial Complex:
    1) Design something in Blender
    2) Claim that it's a twelfth-generation superweapon
    3) Pray India buys it
    4) Actually design your bullshit weapon with predictably mediocre results

My outfit recently built something for Northrop Grumman. You will never convince me that the Russians have a monopoly on "It works in Blender, surely it can be made!". If we'd built what they drew, it would have broken the laws of physics.

The idea of a completely new weapons delivery platform in the shape of the Shtorm super class aircraft carrier has kept me up at night, dreading the force projection of the Russian hegemon that will dominate the oceans of planet Earth for more than 5 years now. I can scarcely find the peace of mind to descend into feverish dreams of the global devastation that it will bring as it unleashes the unmitigated rage of the Russian Bear onto the world stage.
    /words to that effect.

Not to be that guy but steam powered isn't an insult, superheavy bunker oil burner is. The USS Ohio and Nimitz are both powered by steam turbines just like RMS Mauretania or Titanic's central propeller. The difference being that instead of coal or oil powered boilers making steam it's a reactor. Steam is still fantastic. Generally replaced by turbo electric (gas turbine makes juice, electric motor powers prop. That's how cruise ships do it, or the last of the ocean liner like the SS Normandie.

That illustration with the giant plane on the deck is hilarious to me. That plane is just too big. Even if you folded the wings like a book and like 6 or 7 places, it's way too long to fit on the elevators. You'd have to somehow origami it lengthwise to be able to do any maintenance. Hell, even the fighters looked too big for the elevators as illustrated. But that bomber or whatever was seriously just too big to even fit in the hangar, let alone on the elevators.
