      MXXD PHUXXY Pads like XTECH and RIPT are WAY more than just lower profile. And, yeah, if your “preference” is to wear a cardboard vest to stop bullets, because you got “heart”, go right ahead 😂. But, the fact remains... better pads WILL reduce the force of impact to the body thus providing kids that may not have your “heart” the confidence to finally start eating, as well as, allowing even the guys with heart to play harder, feel less, reduce the risk of injury, last longer, and take the game they love as far as possible.

    goin into my sophomore year of hs and i’ve been looking at zenith shoulder pads, either the velocity or element hybrid, any experience with those?

    • @workassertrepeat
      @workassertrepeat  3 года назад +7

      I have a few athletes who wear the ELEMENT pads. And so far, I haven’t seen or heard of them having ANY issues. Keep in mind, none of them are in HS yet, so I can’t account for the increase in player size, game speed, and thus, increased force of impact to the body. As far as the Velocity’s go... I found 2 big issues with the v1. I know the v1 is not the new v2, but, I don’t know how you fix the issues with the v1 by lowering the profile and decreasing weight in the v2.
      V1 issues: 1. Epaulettes would dig into your arm and leave bruises depending on the angle of contact. 2. Padding system throughout the shoulder would bottom out and send too much energy into the shoulder on solid contact, resulting in stingers and excessive shoulder pain.
      Now, some would say “stingers” and such are just a part of the game. However, having worn, as well as, tested on others, shoulder pads that do not cause ANY of these issues, I would argue that, they are not “just a part of the game” and, in fact, are due to the v1 being an inferior shoulder pad.
      And again, not sure how they improved on v1 issues by making the v2 lighter and lower profile. Because, a lower profile requires subtraction. And typically, that subtraction requires new technology to perform as good, if not better than previous versions. As far as lighter, there are only 2 ways to do it... compromise the integrity of something or utilize newer technology that compromises nothing (Think XTECH, TAG RIPT... lots of tech and innovation in those pads to create the desired profile/ weight and still perform). But, that level of innovation and performance is rarely achieved without a heftier price tag. That’s why those pads run $500-$600.
      Problem is, Xenith doesn’t mention using any new tech, new energy absorption system, padding, and don’t even show you a picture of the inside of the pads (looking for some type of clavicle build up system, at least).
      So, if it’s between the Element Hybrid and Velocity 2, I would stick to the Element. Then, I would go out there, play behind my pads, and smash through every defender or knock the💩outta every offensive player moving to ensure your pads can handle the caliber of work you put in‼️
      Now, no set of pads is going to prevent Injury 100%, but routine contact should not result in pain or discomfort. That is a sign that the pads aren’t doing their job. If that’s the case, you may want to step away from Xenith until they start implementing some of that helmet technology into their pads. Because, there are definitely better pads currently on the market.

    Hello sir, I am thinking of getting an XTECH pad and I play DT, DE depend on the team condition. I am like 225 pounds, 6'0. Do you think it is actually a good idea if I decide to get them? what arch, cups, equalets do I have to pick? or do you have any other recommendations?

    • @workassertrepeat
      @workassertrepeat  10 месяцев назад

      There are definitely less expensive options. Like Riddell… Power SPK, Custom Power, or Custom Power Extreme. In my opinion XTECH currently just has the best pad available in terms of technology, materials, customization, and protective ability.
      I think getting them is a great idea! But, it all comes down to what you can/ want to afford. If you can’t or don’t want to spend that much money on a set of pads, I would go with a Riddell Power SPK or some custom power variant. The customs get pricey, but not as pricey as XTECH. The turnaround for Riddell customs however is weeks, XTECH is days.
      If you decide to go with XTECH, I would play around with their 3d custom builder to gauge price and options, then call them and let them explain the options, certain add ons, and help you configure them. Basically, Arch cuts, cups, and epaulettes really depend on 2 things… your build and how you want the pads to fit/ look. Some guys are smaller, and may feel like standard cut, cups, and epaulets would be too bulky. Some guys are bigger, and skill/ super skill won’t provide the coverage they want/ need. And some guys just like less or more pad regardless of their size.
      There’s always compromise depending on the options you select, but unlike altering your pads, going with a smaller/ bigger size, or selecting a different brand for whatever reason, with XTECH, I don’t believe you’re ever compromising the baseline level of protection their system provides. And, I also believe that their baseline of protection is superior to anything else.

    I’m actually thinking about getting the x tech pads as all of the Riddell pads are out of stock. I’m playing middle line backer and am planning on getting the arch, epaulet, cup, and shoulder foam standard. I measured in at a small rn at 6 ft 190 but am only 15 and am done growing height wise but am wondering if when I add another 30 pounds in a couple years if I will need to go up in size or if I should buy a size up to grow into?
    Also are any of the optional accessories really worth it?

    • @workassertrepeat
      @workassertrepeat  2 года назад

      As far as accessories go, I would look into the sternum protector. I’ve never seen you play, but some guys don’t attack downhill behind their pads correctly. And, when going against a solid ball carrier or run blocker who means business, if he catches you standing still and or straight up, and decides to run it up your chest, the potential for injury to the sternum, and up into the shoulder complex (especially to the clavicle) is there.
      I also like the channel pads. And, that’s even if you do play correctly behind your pads. They raise the pads off the body a bit and provide an additional tier of protection, especially for guys willing to bring that hammer downhill, correctly, and at full force.
      Both can easily be added later or removed if not needed, but I like them because I’ve seen several instances where that additional level of protection was needed and not present, resulting in an injury.
      Off hand, I know the small is 17-18” and the Medium is 18-19”. Typically, if you were bigger/ more muscular, and measured 18, the medium would probably fit you better. But, I’m not sure how XTECH feels about sizing up like that for “growing room”. Now, if you measured for a SM at 17”, I would say the medium is going to be too big.
      If you’re thinking XTECH, I would definitely call them directly and let them walk you through their entire process. They’ve got a great team over there that can answer all of your sizing/ other questions and ensure you get what you need.

    • @workassertrepeat
      @workassertrepeat  2 года назад

      I don’t see the message I’m replying to anymore, but… I think you should get the best pads you can afford. JPK, SPK, XTECH in that order. In my opinion, XTECH requires that sternum pad if there is a chance that someone will get under and up into your chest with any force.
      Also, I don’t think XTECH should ever be considered “overkill”. They should be considered superior. In terms of design, ability to reduce force to the body (except in those situations I feel the sternum pad is a requirement), customer support, customization, turn around, etc.
      Truth is… some guys can get hit in the mouth hard as sh*t a million times and never tap out. Others get their jaw grazed once and they’re out for the count.
      If you’re the later, you have two options… stop fighting or get the gear that’s going to allow you to stay in the fight. Doesn’t mean you can’t be a great fighter, you just need to be better protected to fight with more confidence and keep your foot on the gas!
      Then, there’s the long term effect of the game on the body (4 quarters, next week, entire season, post season, next year, etc.). And, even with the strongest jaw, you’re going to eventually feel the game. So, regardless of what lots of people like to think… there comes those moments in the game where EVERYBODY takes their foot off the gas. Because, that’s what the game is all about!
      All that being said… better helmets and shoulder pads equal more gas, less brakes. Unless your just out there for show and have no intentions of getting in the fight.
      If you’ve never worn anything as good as a JPK, you’ll definitely notice the difference on contact… and it’s a difference you’ll continue to notice as you continue upgrading.

    Shoulder pads determine how well you play?

    • @workassertrepeat
      @workassertrepeat  2 года назад

      Do you mean determine as in… cause (something) to occur in a particular way; be the decisive factor in?
      No, They are not the decisive factor in how well you play, but they are definitely a big part of the equation!
      Because, Shoulder pads (and helmets) determine how much force of impact will reach the body. And, when you can Reduce the force of impact to the body enough…yes, a football player WILL play better: harder, more confidently, prevent injury, reduce wear and tear play to play, quarter to quarter, game to game, season to season, etc. and never hesitate to bring it!
      DON’T reduce the force of impact to the body enough and: football players WILL receive injuries that could have been prevented, feel like they’re 60 when they’re 20, play on their heels, and lack the confidence to go fill that gap or bring the ball downhill before the end of the 1st half.
      Sure, some guys are really “tough” and will run themselves into that wall until it comes crumbling down 🧐😂.
      But, the truth is… you won’t play as well if you feel like your bout to break. And, you can’t play as well if you’re on the sideline broken. So now, besides how well YOU used to play, the real question is… how well does your team play without you? Because, since you decided to be “tougher” than all of the objective evidence that points to PHYSICS and shoulder related injuries in tackle football being real things… you’ve got your arm in a sling, with a big a** bag of ice ace bandaged to the top of your shoulder, wishing you’d had on a better set of shoulder pads 😂.

    The funny thing is that the better the equipment, the greater velocity the game is played. I guarantee you that injuries would be reduced if they went back to leather helmets. Rugby is a rough sport but they don’t have the number of injuries that football has. Especially the most important injury concern of all… the BRAIN. helmets have been easily the most improved equipment. What happened when amazing helmets were introduced? Human missile tackling. Rugby still uses technique tackling like the old football days. Troy palamaulu and new helmets changed that. With the institution of linemen using their hands. Shoulders are not a very big part of football. As an offensive and defensive linemen you want a bare minimum amount of pads. Almost using the pads as protection from laceration and protection from an opposing blunt edge helmet. Shoulder pad technology is overrated. The only that that really hurts playing football is when your head gets involved. When I started playing at 8 yes old all the way through college it was headaches and neck pain that made it hard to play through, NOT your shoulders. When you get your bell ring and your head feels like a fragile eggshell, it does affect you. I would be surprised if anyone who played would disagree with me. You want to stop serious injury? Get rid of face-masks. Kids would definitely start tackling correctly. Knee injuries are a risk in any activity out there, that’s not going away
    Head trauma is the only concern that needs addressed in football

    • @workassertrepeat
      @workassertrepeat  2 года назад +1

      I’ve never been a fan of comparing Rugby to Football. Both are physical, but they’re very different In terms of game play and how contact is initiated and received. Respect to both games! But, because of these differences, I’m not sold that Rugby style “technique” tackling is always the best answer for Tackle Football. The first thing that comes to mind is a RB that means business coming down hill against a LB that’s hell bent on filling that gap. I’m not entirely sure a Seahawk Roll is appropriate. Neither am I sure that this is a situation where a guy is telling himself that shoulder pad technology is overrated.
      To be honest, I think one only needs to watch some of these adult, no pad, tackle football league games, to see that Tackle Football just wouldn’t be the tackle football we love without helmets and shoulder pads… because, without the equipment, yeah, it still kinda looks like tackle football, but it’s definitely not the same.
      As far as helmets go, I do agree that nothing good happens when the head gets involved. But, a big part of mitigating these types of collisions, besides throwing flags and fining guys for leading with their heads, is teaching kids how to properly play behind their pads, especially where tackling , shedding a block, or running with the ball (run play, after the catch, scrambling) is concerned. At this point, I’d say any development into reducing the force of impact to the body is definitely a good thing. Especially as it relates to head trauma and indirect hits to the shoulder/ body leading to a rotational motion of the head.
      And yes, there’s an awful lot of “hands” going on… ineffective against better pass rushers if you ask me, but only because the best dlinemen are great at bringing it behind those pads. This isn’t to say the pads are always making contact, it’s more to do with the intensity and angle of attack (up and into) their opponent, in conjunction with, their ability to split, execute a “skill move” or simply bull rush through an opponent without standing upright, chest to chest. Without shoulder pads I’m not 100% certain you’d get the same level of intensity play after play. Again, due to those indirect rotational forces, as well as the direct stress you’d put on the shoulder complex (mainly the Clavicle, AC joint, scapula, and GH joint) whenever contact did occur.
      Then there’s just the straight up lack of tackling at every level of play! Guys unwilling to bring that pad to the hip! Could be they don’t want to crack those eggshells in the process but I’ve seen plenty of stingers and broken clavicles that didn’t result in a head injury that still took guys off the field for the day, week, weeks, or even the season. And, Better shoulder pads definitely do a better job of preventing these types of injuries. No, these types of injuries may not hurt as much as those headaches and neck pain from getting your bell rung, but they’re just as effective at reducing a teams combat power.
      You’re spot on with the concept of better equipment leading to a different and more dangerous level of play (human missile tackling). But, that’s what all of this technology is about… giving players the confidence to play more physically and ultimately do their job… better. But, with better equipment and more confident game play, comes the balancing effect… where equipment technology, injury concerns, and rules must work together to create the safest and most exciting game play possible.
      You’re also spot on with the most important injury concern being the brain. Because, these types of injuries can carry hidden, lasting, and life threatening effects. But, I don’t think we need to throw shoulder pad or any other technology out of the window just yet (or ever). Because, the key to player safety and longevity is going to come as all of these things are developed: helmet tech, shoulder pad tech, mouthpiece tech, sock tech (kind of kidding but they do have padded socks these days, 😂), shoe tech (lower extremity injury), how we train and develop athletes (especially as it relates to knowledge, training knowledge to task, even if that’s just teaching folks how not to play with their head… the kinetic chain, building functional strength, etc), rule changes, so on and so forth.
      You see, football is WAR and every piece of equipment plays it’s part in doing its best to keep players on the field, as well as, performing their best in order to accomplish the mission. And, that mission is to WIN. No, going to war is not always the safest proposition… and today, we will always wish we had at our disposal, what isn’t possible until tomorrow. But, as long as we keep learning from yesterday, and pushing technology forward, we’ll always be better off than we were.
      Yeah that last sentence kind of opened the door to a much deeper philosophical debate… but that’s a conversation for another time, 😂🤣😂🤣

      Some folks are juggernauts, some folks more resemble Mr. Glass (in terms of how they “feel” the game). So, at the end of the day, better equipment is really about 2 things: 1) Preventing Mr. Glass from breaking, as well as, giving him the confidence he needs to get out there, enjoy the game, succeed, and help reduce wear and tear over time. 2) protect those juggernauts, who could give a f* about equipment or wear and tear. Because, whether those juggernauts know it or not, wear and tear is just as important for them as it is for Mr. Glass.
      So yeah, let us know… because if you were a beast in warrior pads, and notice the difference between those and a better set of pads, you’ll probably have an even better season!

    • @workassertrepeat
      @workassertrepeat  3 года назад

      I have no first hand experience with the XV HD. However, I would not recommend any varsity level shoulder pad that still uses EVA foam. That or, youth level pads using EVA as the sole source of padding.
      Why? 1. Test results (mainly from running shoe insole repeated impact testing using EVA foam) show that the EVA loses its ability to “pad” with each foot strike. Given the repeated contact nature of football, as well as, the forces of that contact being considerably more than your foot through the ground (running), using padding that you know will lose its ability to pad with each hit is dangerous, reckless, negligent, etc.
      2. In my own experience, testing a variety of materials in the design of my own technologies ... I confirmed that EVA does not stand up to repeated abuse (football, 😂) the way other materials do.
      3. Based on this and more, it’s my opinion that EVA is only used to lower costs in order to sell pads at a price that more people are willing to purchase them at. But, by purchasing them, you’re definitely buying an inferior product that WILL NOT protect as well.

      What size pads do you wear? That and, better pads won’t increase power themselves... rather, they’ll better absorb the impact of the hits. In turn, you’ll feel less... and typically that allows you to play harder/ more confidently. So, if the power (muscular) to not get ran over is there, and you’re just unwilling to bring it because it hurts like shit to get downhill and smack somebody... better pads will definitely help. Now, if you lack the Muscular Power to do the job, that’s a different story. For that, you need to checkout www.lifeismybattlefield.com and order you’re ABP (Athlete Battle Plan). • @workassertrepeat
      @workassertrepeat  3 года назад

      I apologize for the delay. With Douglas I would stay with a Standard Pro (SP). Yes, they are twice the price of the Legacy, but in my opinion, pad manufacturers that have been around a while are simply putting their well established name on lowered price point equipment to compete with newer manufacturers ability to produce a better pad, using better tech/ materials, at a lower cost. I especially question things when pad manufacturers won't tell you how or out of what the pads are made. As far as Douglas and "Air Management" go... even the SP's could use some refreshing, because in my experience, the "Air Management" and padding system "bottom out" under what I would consider "normal" impacts. So, I can only imagine that at half the price the Legacy's would bottom out under even less force of impact.
      I would love to say: buyem, tryem (by knocking the shit outta folks), and if you don't feel like they offer you the level of protection you need, because you feel the majority of impacts and are taking stingers every or every other/ every few practices... sendem back. But, pad manufacturers don't work like that.
      So, let's do this... How old are you, or your athlete? What position? What's the most you can/ want to spend on a set of pads?
      Lemme know and we'll look into the best options for you.

    • @workassertrepeat
      @workassertrepeat  2 года назад

      Happy Thanksgiving! My opinion is that they’re a price pointed adult level pad. That being said, they’ll provide you as much protection as a $200 adult level flat pad currently can.
      I’ve never worn them or seen anybody rock out with them on. But, these days... I’d at least be looking for some sort of clavicle/ arch build up/ channel system. It’s just a better way to offer more protection in a less expensive pad. And, to my knowledge the AP’s don’t have that. I think Riddel starts incorporating that into their SPK line.
      If I were at the HS level, feeling the game more than I felt I should, and had $200 to put into a better pad... I would wait until I could save up another $150 and start with the SPK’s. Waiting is def better than throwing $200 down the drain for something that’s probably not going to work very well. Now, if I were still playing Youth-MS ball and wearing Youth sizes, I would put that $200 into a set of ALT3 944 (first) or Riddell JPK (second).
      But, then again... you might be a monster and could give a sh** about what pads you wear cause you’re out there fn everybody up and never feeling a thing. In that case, you could buy the cheapest pads you want, because you only need them for the equipment requirement, lol.

Another solid option (a little more expensive though) would be to grab a set of Riddell JPK’s ($220), take out the removable clavicle pads they come with, and replace them with the XTECH “removable channels”. The XTECH channels use XRD. And XRD is superior at absorbing impact force. I’m not sure if you could add them to the velocity 2, because the v2 doesn’t have removable clavicle pads and the inner padding is wrapped in a smooth fabric that may not allow the hook and loop fastening on the removable channels to stick.
      Either way, it sounds like the v2 would definitely be an upgrade!

      If you go Douglas Custom Pro Series, Douglas is fine. For a RB, I would choose a CANT (short for cantilever) model. But, for that price (around $500) I would really look into XTECH. At first, I had issues with the level of protection XTECH provided when taking solid hits to the sternum area (for players with less experience, experienced players who don't run correctly behind their pads, or for any player who on that rare/ not rare occasion where the defender gets under and up into them). But, that issue has been rectified by the addition of an optional sternum pad. And, in my opinion, that, coupled with a few other things, really make XTECH the best (as well as most expensive) set of pads on the market. If you're interested in them, make sure you contact them directly so they can build them based on what you need... not what anyone has in stock.

    What do you think of Riddell power jpk+? What is the difference between spk and jpk?

    • @workassertrepeat
      @workassertrepeat  2 года назад +1

      JPK is definitely a Youth level pad. Sizing starts at 13” up to 18”. It has 2 cuts/ arch lengths. The AP version will have a wider cut and longer arch with Larger Epaulets (shoulder flaps). The SK version will have a narrower cut and shorter arch with smaller epaulets to help give skill players a less bulky pad with more range of motion.
      SPK is an Adult Pad with sizing starting at 17”. It will come in more cuts and arch lengths by position: QB/wr, ol/dl, FB/lb, rb/db/multi-purpose.
      I’ve seen JPK’s on a couple athletes and they tend to “bottom out” under solid impact... even after adjusting the clavicle pads. That and the fact that Riddell doesn’t promote the use of a superior padding (the way they are promoting their Diamond helmets, tunable energy management, and Carbon partnership) ... I can only assume that they’ve yet to incorporate a newer more energy absorptive material into their shoulder pad. And, that’s why regardless of any “STAC system” or “Air Management Liner” technology they list, the pads don’t perform as well as I think they should.
      Haven’t seen the SPK’s in action, but, Riddell tells me the JPK and SPK utilize the same padding. Based on that, I wouldn’t put $300+ into a set of SPK’s, when I can get an Adult set of ALT3’s for $280. Not really a brand fan... I rock with what works the best, at the price I want to afford.

    • @workassertrepeat
      @workassertrepeat  2 года назад +1

      3 things.
      1. I CAN afford them and the price IS NOT an issue. If so, yes. I buy them (with key add-ons) every time he outgrows them. And, resell the used ones at like 50-60%.
      2. I CAN afford them, I just don’t want to buy them. If so, I would take into account how my athlete plays. A. Does he go hard as f, play behind his pads, but complain sometimes or show visual signs of shoulder issues, stingers, etc. B. Does he play more timid, arm tackle, not really get downhill, and not really go as hard as the game demands? If either A or B are true, I buy them (with key add-ons) every time he outgrows them. And, resell the used ones at like 50-60%. If B is true, I also get him some training.
      3. I CANNOT afford them or I’m just NOT going to buy them. Are A or B true? If so, figure out what he’s currently wearing, how much I can/ will afford to get something better, hit Neal (me) up, then, get the best set of pads I can/ want to afford.
      Typically a solid set of pads is going to be the model just underneath their “Custom” or most expensive pad. And, their usually anywhere from $3-400.
      For me, it’s safety over everything. And, more than just what could happen in 1 game, if I can put my kid in a helmet or pads that are actually better and WILL reduce the cumulative effect of each game on their body, I’m in.
      And nowadays, SOME equipment is SO much better that certain equipment WILL prevent injuries and issues that other equipment WILL NOT. Consequently, you don’t have to “feel” the game as much as you once did. Only problem is, there’s a nice little price tag that goes along with it.

      You should have them refit you for shoulder pads and get you a set that fits. Wearing them too big or too small is definitely NOT the way to go. Check the manufacturers site, and they should have fitting details. Also, some helmets either have an air system you can bleed/ add air to or different size padding in certain areas you can use to adjust the fit (your team may not have those pads, but if they are available, you should be able to get them directly from the manufacturer for whatever model helmet you have). If your helmet has neither, you can look into a helmet liner to create a better fit. That or, buy your own/ better helmet that fits properly. Whatever you do, DO NOT wear a helmet that’s too small (headaches, because the helmet is squeezing your head is not something you need to get used to) and DO NOT wear a helmet that’s too big (if you can pull the face mask down and the helmet can contact the bridge of your nose, that is a broken nose waiting to happen. And, if there is too much space between any part of your head and the interior of the helmet, the helmet will be able to move independently of your head, and that is DEFINITELY a HUGE safety hazard.

Some folks might say “personal preference”... but if and when you take a shot like that... it would suck to have to come out of the game, miss some games, or the rest of the season... because you didn’t have them attached.

      @@workassertrepeat thanks for the answer. Also what do you think about the Schutt XV7 QB/Wr

    • @workassertrepeat
      @workassertrepeat  2 года назад

      @@zzachylol8995 I don’t have any experience with them. But, from what I can find... the XV7 doesn’t have Schutts air management system. And, its still using EVA as the primary source of padding. So, for $250 you’re getting a scaled down, price driven pad that looks similar to but is NOT going to provide you the same level of protection as their more expensive models.
      So, how much protection do you actually need? For me, it’s all about being able to take the hits, blow through blocks, knock the juice out of ball carriers, or smash through defenders play after play without feeling like that’s what I did.
      If you’re still playing youth ball and can fit adult size pads, these might be okay... but if you’re playing HS... I would find something else. For around $250 it’s hard to beat the Adult Tag Alt3 in QB/WR cut (that’s with 25% off “EAT” code).
      Some folks don’t like that they don’t incorporate the traditional plastic arches, but, I’ll take a better pad over what I think a pad should look like any day.
      And then, there’s waiting a few paychecks to just get the best set of pads out period. In my opinion, that’s XTECH. I would also opt for the thicker padding and add the sternum pad option. Why do I think they’re the best? 1. Because, I’ve seen them in action on kids who wouldn’t hit a fly before they put those things on, and 2. Manufacturers are starting to copy their process as much as they can.

    Is there a original xtech and a xtech two or only one model

    • @workassertrepeat
      @workassertrepeat  3 года назад

      It's one model that has been updated over the years. As far as I know, the updates aren't to their core technology, rather, things like: using smaller (thus lighter) all stainless steel hardware, better moisture management (thus reducing added weight from sweat), smaller/ stronger epaulets, and things of that nature.

    What are your thoughts on the Riddell Power CPK LB/FB? Also is there any code or anywhere I could buy these using a code to save some money?

    • @workassertrepeat
      @workassertrepeat  2 года назад

      I like the Riddell Power line. When it comes to the CPK though, you’re going to pay $175 more than a set of SPK’s and only get 2 things: 1. That super aggressive arch cut and cooler looking design of the CPK (might be way more comfortable and provide a serious range of motion though, I don’t know). 2. The ability to customize your colors.
      No codes. But, if you don’t have to have that CPK look and customizable colors… SPK’s are a solid set of pads!
