I remember 1982, the parachute pants, my Douglas Snider dance boots (roller skates), jumping over barrels in Central Park in NYC and skating in dance circles--not a care in the world as a 16 year old--loved it all. It was true "Paradise" Thank you.
This song came out during my innocence of a 16/17 young man….. great memories…. For some reason it stayed in the roller deck of my mind music catalog….THE GREAT LUTHER VANDROSS❤……what is it about this song that keeps me coming back to it?!!!
listen to that bass !!!!!!! gawd i love this song.. makes me think of my days as a courier for FedEx ..driving out in Antelope Valley with my boom box on the passenger seat... just me and the miles and this great amazing music... i miss it all
Change’s Paradise, is a masterpiece. In pop music history, the opening of this song (featuring a brilliant slap bass guitar performance) is instantly recognizable . The lead vocalist, had the voice of an angel. You’ll wanna hear it, over and over again. One of the best songs of the 80’s. Unforgettable music. Awe inspiring, spiritual, magical, epic pop music history. Music to climb mountains to.... Is Change.
Even though this is written seven (7) years later, the lead singer of "Paradise" was Diva Gray; not Deborah Cooper. Deborah Cooper did background on this song and fronted the band in live performances.
Underrated band with major players at that time..more powerful now because music listeners realize the great sounds that this great production group gave out.
I recall this great jam by Change...when I came out of high school in the summer of 1982 (nyc) and I took my big JVC.boombox to the "circle " and played my box for the rollerskaters...good times...
This traQ is awesome yesterday and is awesome today (" the intro bass is unforgettable and all through. The lyrics and vocals...it's all good together. This song gives me a good feeling ...it always takes me somewhere good (" Great Group ("
no they are not unless you were on the dance floor when it came out PARADISE GARAGE FOREVER. this is a classic. I FEEL IT THEN AND NOW MINUS the Richard Long sound system.
i wish people would NOT call this disco - this was CLUB music before House music went public. I was there. I know the difference. There was a great article I read in Philly in 1990 about how disco transitioned to club music and then into House music. Gotta find that article. That said it all.
This is actually what italo disco happened to be in 1981, as a rip-off the Chic, and later a rip off Zapp & Roger Eventually Sangy of Firefly, another Chic rip-off, made out in 1983, Valery Allington - Stop which was indeed a house music precursor also Celso Vali of Passengers (another rip-off) was behind Peter Richard with 1983 Walking In The Neon (and worked along with Tony Carrasco of the 1982 Klein & MBO)
I agree; it is neither disco nor classic house music. Cuts like "Paradise" represent a sophisticated form of dance club music whose producers sought to avoid the "disco" label in the early '80s while appealing to urban R+B fans and also the hard-core dance crowd that turned the group's debut into a hit album. Yes, they were influenced by Chic, as were many other artists, but it's over-stating it to call their music "Chic rip-offs" etc. Even a cursory listen to the two groups' sound reveals the difference in their approaches. The producers of Change realized that dance music (or "disco") was no longer a fad so they opted for a polished and appealing brand of love-oriented slick R+B-lite. As a result they began to alienate their dance music following by joining the crowded field of up-scale R+B acts with loads of mid-temp ballads that were lush and...quite frankly, a bit bland and sleepy. They never did another track that got the street buzz of "Searching" or "A Lover's Holiday". Instead, they went with a sound more similar to "The Glow of Love" (minus the magic of Luther Vandross). Listen to their new album; it's beautifully produced up-scale R+B with a few tasty concessions to the dance crowd that gave them their initial success.
No no no Luther had an album 4 years before his guest appearance on changes first album in which was the glow of love look up his song the 2nd time around that was on his album which was on Cotillion records the same label as Slave Mass Production and Sister Sledge. 🤘🏾

Remember this playing out my dads brown pontiac 2 door catalina,at the lakefront 67th as a kid ,bongos playing ,kids playing people selling the neon necklaces green or purple, the ice cream truck dat passed thru snowballs with the gum at the bottom ,bomb pops, barb que grills ,tents everywhere I was a kid maybe 8 or 9g ,playing with other kids ,Ella n Carl or Brayant n Sabrina my parents friends meet us there early 1980s, this song makes me reminisce n cry my childhood !!!
