I drove Skytrek in 1999 so it's been going for a while now. We had our lunch in a very picturesque dry creek bed. After lunch the fun started, some very steep and narrow tracks to traverse. What a day!!
@@michaelswonderfulworld far out mate. It’s been going for a while. I wonder what the track was like back in 1999. Still has the steep country towards the end Cheers Tim.
@@timbates4wdadventures G'day Tim, we did it October 1999, in my new 1999 GU 4.2T, it had less than 10,000ks on it. It even had the standard H/T Bridgestones on it. My wife, two kids 4 and 2yo, over loaded looking back and very green of our requirements out there. We also towed our newly built off road trailer on that trip and we took way too much stuff along. Anyway, we shredded a rear tyre coming into William Creek so no spare for SkyTrek or the rest of the tripping around the Flinders. We learnt a lot and Skytrek was our introduction to Four Wheel Driving. We survived, my wife still has the Patrol, I got another 4.2Ti 4 years later and still driving it 21 years later with 500,000ks on it. The track seems similar, some changes for safety may have been implemented but I'm sure it the same great day out. Thanks for sharing your day out. We have a substantial amount of old Video 8 tape of the day I must drag it out and have a look. Cheers Mick
Tim, 1995 was open to the public, here is a little bit about it. "In 1985 Carmel & Brendan joined Brendan's parents in a partnership to obtain Willow Springs and took the first step in diversifying into the tourist industry, by developing the Shearer's Quarters as an alternative accommodation facility in the Flinders Ranges. With sheep and cattle still a major part of everyday living on Willow Springs, Willow Springs has transformed into a popular tourist destination. In 1995 the 60km Skytrek 4WD tour was constructed. In 2012 the route was changed and now stays exclusively on Willow Springs Station." Regards, Mick
Tim, that continues sqeaking from the troll would drive me nuts. Had a similar noise emitting from mine, turned out to be front body mounts, right up front in behind bull bar. Can't remove them as body needs to lift off but I managed to grease and lube enough to eliminate that friggin annoying sqeak. Maybe your situation, just maybe worth lubing them also. Was meant to do that loop in 2023, but silly old me had some minni strokes (TIA's) on route so ended up spending a week in Whyalla hospital instead. Wasn't the break I was intending to have, but got looked after treamendously well, so can't complain. My travelling companions did it and loved it. My turn will come. Thanks
G'day mate, To be honest the sqeaks are worse on the video than what i hear in the drivers seat. I'll looking it your tip though. The body mounts are still the original rubber mounts. Thats no good mate on your health when you went. Take care mate, and i hope you can get up into the Flinders soon mate. Thanks mate. Cheers Tim

Wow great to see you still going strong mate. I ended up with a broken 4WD dream. The Patrol had to be sold as no one knew why it was chewing 20L/100 diesel. Trying to sell I discovered I have been ripped off. The dealer Coastal car Sales in Mid North Coast sold me a lemon for $30K real worth was more like $15. Had rust all underneath hidden by a black tar like substance, broken sway bars, winch and 1 drive light never worked, tow bar was so badly rusted no one could take it out- invested in $15000 and the mechanics who were supposed to have looked after it took the money never fixed anything. Had new Carbon winch fitted, new 33 inch tyres, new roof rack, Ultravision $1800 new set of lights,...sold for $15k. Then I thought I could trust my local car dealer and bought a Mazda BT50 Ute, within 4 months engine blew up and now sitting in a friend's shed - bought from Jontom motors Lismore if you wanna know. My 20 year olf son found all this paperwork in the glove box at the back about engine over heating why the fellow sold the ute and was told to watch out but I was never passed on that information. What's more the dealer brothers were up in arms as if it is my fault. The Coastal Car Sales fellow some damn it Zammit never even bothered to reply to my emails. So after $55000 I lost so far and in debt my 4wd travel dream is over.
Wow that's unreal sorry to hear all of this and your experience. I really hope you're taking this further to get money back or something to be done. I had the same issue with these guys back in 2021 brought a 2015 Hilux drove it out went around the corner and boom she went I soon turned around and told them straight out. Took it to court and came out on top
Gday mate, far out what a bad run you have had with cars. I really hope you can find a good reliable vehicle soon. All the best mate, sorry to hear your story. Take care. Cheers Tim
Dear Tim, I added that to my list of places to visit if I get the chance. What are those little black birds? They're adorable. Until that first kangaroo hopped away, I thought it was a bunny rabbit. The ears are very similar. If the door on that hut is open when I get there, I'm giving any kangaroos in there an eviction notice they'll heed. I'll make sure to shut it behind me. Not only will I remember to shut the gates, I'll give a lecture to anyone who doesn't stop to shut the gate behind them, but only if I watched them do that. I'll shut the gate behind me, but I'll let anyone close behind me drive on ahead of me before I do so they don't have to remember to shut it themselves. I'd pack enough food for a week, just in case something happens while I'm on the trail. I think that grader should be in a museum instead of rusting away. I'll make sure to keep the key for the padlock in the same place as the map so I don't forget it when I leave. Looks like the Flintstones were out on the trail and got run off by a kangaroo or something. Amazing views are easy to find, but peace and quiet is more difficult to come by. Enjoy your adventures, man. Cheers, Colton
