I went to grade school in Bangor, Maine. What had adorned the bow of the ship had been recovered and placed on a monument around the corner from my school. I walked by the "Remember the Maine" structure all the time.
Anders! My wife and I just moved to Chicago from Seattle, and I started watching your channel months before we landed here. Thanks so much for the history and general lessons you’ve given me on cocktails. I come from the bourbon world, and was very happy to transition into the wider world of spirits and balanced cocktails. Cheers!
Anders, first of all I have to thank you for your excellent, entertaining and as well, for me as Hobby-Mixologist, educating content! Thanks to Az and Freya as well for cheering me up every time they are with you on the channel! You brought Peychauds Bitter into my life, a real milestone. Tonight, I have to try the "Remember the Maine". Subscribed liked and commented, be absolutely sure not for the last but only the first time... 😃⚒"Glück auf" from Germany!
It’s a great cocktail Anders, with perfect balance, but I have kept telling people in my bar that this is just a rebranded McKinley’s Delight, which first appeared in printing in 1896, as opposed to the Remember The Maine, which I believe is from 1939.
Anders, my friend, this is a fabulous cocktail. I don't have a sprayer, so I washed the glass switch a bar spoon full Absinthe, and it is just delicious.
I got so excited when I realized I had all the ingredients for this one so I jumped up and made it. Almost feels like a riff on a manhattan, which is nice when you feel like breaking out of the mold. Great cocktail!
I really enjoyed this cocktail (remember the Maine), especially the smell of the absinthe rinse on each sip. Nice alternative to a Manhattan which my father in law and enjoy weekly
the mast of the maine is at a memorial in portland. its on the east side crest of a place called munjoy hill. its a pretty view. i used to visit maine frequently.
You are hilarious. I am going to try this with my home made sour cherry liqueur (I live in the Canadian Prairies/Foothills). I look forward to every Friday episode for my end-of-work week cocktail!
This is so very close to my Bobby Burns template. I make that with a rinse of absinthe, too, with two full ounces of base spirit to one ounce of vermouth and a quarter ounce of liqueur. This has worked well with every combination of base spirit, vermouth, and liqueur I've tries so I'll bet it would be wonderful here.
So I just had Maraschino Liqueur at hand yesterday when I tried it. Went for full 2 oz of Rye and oh boy did I like it. I will not even try to get Heering because I think the Maraschino worked so damn well!
My favorite variant of this includes Cherry Heering + Cherry Brandy (specifically kirschwasser). Just Heering makes it a little too sweet. Kirschwasser provides balance.
Hey guys! You have become the by far most anticipated and joyfully watched channel for me! Thanks for the amazing and humorous videos! :) Since some of your most intriguing recipes call for Sherry, I would love for a tasting episode about the different kind of sherries, and when to use what - since I am completely oblivious to that segment of wine / mixology. "Prost!" from a very over-seeable but humble house bar in Germany!
Excellent, informative, entertaining video ! I love a manhattan. I may have to try. Almost forgot the ad and the Dog ! Love your dog 🐕 💕. Such a good doggy. Well trained to treats. 🙂
I usually skip over the ad reads on most channels. Not with Anders. Every heard of/used Agricanto? Italian liquor, instead of the Heering, for this drink.
Terrific ratios Anders and what a delicious cocktail! Freya is adorbs! My only change is that I use a rye that is proofy and 100% rye! Love it! Can't wait to make another one of these! Cheers! 🙂
Hi Anders….great story about this drink!….such a classy cocktail, your stirring action was fantastic!…..I really enjoy listening to you talk about the history of the drink and of course when you go “to the bar”!👌👌👌👏👏👏 Have a great weekend, and CHEERS!🍸🍸😁😁
Happy Friday (13th). First off, the atomized absinthe is the way. It is so worth it not only to evenly distribute, but also to just be less wasteful. I do love me some Nawlins' cocktails. As for this cocktail, looks like fun, and there are few (that I know) cocktails calling for Cherry Heering. The Remember the Maine will be tried out tonight or this weekend. Cheers!
Just made this - what a great cocktail! I didn't have Cherry Heering on-hand so I made it with Luxardo for now, but I've got some cherry bounce infusing and am excited to give that a shot in a few months.
Woohoo! A drink I have all the ingredients for, and is right up my alley. I use Bulleit Rye though and Antica Formula. No atomiser, so swirl and toss the absinthe (what a waste), and then I goofed and did double the Cherry Heering. Still tastes good. Cheers! Happy Friday Happy Hour! I might have another... Freya is doing a good job cohosting, but perhaps you should have her behind the camera and have Az cohost. Just an idea.
Home remodel plus work and I am not getting to watch these as soon as posted. I have found overall I like stirred cocktails more just because of the simplicity and I am lazy. This looks very very good.
Drink suggestion! Black Bean Margarita 3 OZ reposado Tequila 3/4 OZ black bean can juice 1 OZ Cointreau orange liqueur Half OZ agave syrup Half a tablespoon chopped cilantro Pinch cumin Pinch chili powder Pinch cayenne pepper 4 muddled lime wedges or juice of half a lime Shake in cocktail shaker with ice Pour over ice, sprinkle with salt (black salt if you have it) and enjoy!
Love this drink, Anders! I first tried it with the specs from the PDT Cocktail Book (w/ the full 2 oz rye). Trying your version tonight. Cheers. To the bar!
An ounce and a half of rye would be what my dad called a Friday night drink. He called a two ounce rye drink an after church drink. Gotta love those Bostonians.
This ought to be good! I love a good Manhattan, its riffs, and all the ingredients so this is right up my alley. And it will be good to use Cherry Heering in a cocktail other than the Blood and Sand. Maybe a video with suggestions about bottles we rarely use in cocktails, for instance Cherry Heering, Suze (though there are a couple of drinks other than the White Negroni that call for it)? And I would love to see how you make the Pornstar Martini. I have tried to figure out the original recipe (no lime... though it is ok to add a bit) and the closest I came to was a low-quality video by Douglas Ankrah himself preparing it. Though in it, it looks like he forgets and adds passion fruit syrup twice!
OK, this drink looks pretty cool. I don't have Cherry Heering. I do have this German cherry liqueur called the Eckes Kirsch, so wanna try this out with that. Maybe it will be good? Who knows until I try it. Looks like a great recipe, thanks Anders. As always.
@alfredanheier4779 I need to taste it still. I'm a little scared to open it, because the reviews have been mixed. Some say it's amazing, some say it's horrible.
Hey Lisa, were glad to hear you enjoy Chinola, we know the yellow contents of our bottle can be messy, but its all the flavour concentration that is waiting to burst in your mouth!!
What are the benefits of doing an absinthe rinse as opposed to just adding 5mL or so to the cocktail as you mix? Potentially even using a dasher bottle to add in minimal amounts?
I still remember the shame of dropping a bottle of absinthe at the counter at Systembolaget in Sweden. I was 19 years old, and had planned to make a couple of Remember the Maine that night. The whole store smelled of absinthe, however due to the greatness of government controlled liquor monopoly I got a new bottle. I remember to the cocktails to have turned out excellent, but they probably weren't. This looks far better!
Great content, as always. Will try this one. Anders, would like to see your take on The Hunter. Similar ingredients - Rye, Vermouth, Cherry Heering, only Luxardo instead of Absinthe. It’s fantastic.
Speaking of chopsticks, I've taken to using one to stir the cocktail in the mixing glass. I don't have to figure out the right grip for the spoon to rotate that way.
Should I bring Freya on as a permanent co-host?
Head to rb.gy/akqu6 and use code ANDERS10 for $10 off the Chinola online shop!
Heck yes! She's such a polite co-host! I vote she gets the job!
You have a very good dog
Could you also create a drink recipe in Freya's honor?
water is best drink for dogs@@medicus5565
Anyone who downvotes this should be keelhauled!
And I second the motion to create the Freya Cocktail! Remember the Freya?

Love your channel! You’re the reason why I went down the rabbit hole of mixology haha! Thanks for being an awesome creator. :)
Happy the channel could help on your cocktail journey! Cheers
Same here! I have more than 60 bottles of boozahol now. 8 bottles of Chartreuse alone. Thanks Anders! 🥂

It's so cool to see how big your channel has become. Here's to a million soon! Cheers!
Thanks for the support!

Thumbs up for the good boy and his Chinola interest.

Makes sense - great tidbit. Thanks David. Enjoy the weekend.
As a Dominican I fully love this week’s sponsor!
Absinth makes the heart grow fonder...
Excellent description, excellent demonstration, excellent delivery and excellent sense of humor. Can't wait to give this one a try!
It was worth it for the ending. You’re so fun
Anders, my friend, this is a fabulous cocktail. I don't have a sprayer, so I washed the glass switch a bar spoon full Absinthe, and it is just delicious.
Notice, the dog was featured during the ad so that people didn't just skip ahead. And yes.... it worked. ♥
Tried this one for the first time at my favourite cocktail bar! So good, they also flamed the absinthe!!!
I got so excited when I realized I had all the ingredients for this one so I jumped up and made it. Almost feels like a riff on a manhattan, which is nice when you feel like breaking out of the mold. Great cocktail!
This cocktail is excellent. Thanks for this one.
Awesome episode, back to the classics! Cheers Anders and Az! 🍸🍹🥂
I have liked your content since first finding it and I’ve not been disappointed at all
Well, I don't know sh!t from Chinola but I do know that Absinthe makes the heart grow fond.
I really enjoyed this cocktail (remember the Maine), especially the smell of the absinthe rinse on each sip. Nice alternative to a Manhattan which my father in law and enjoy weekly
Perfect cocktail for the Navy’s birthday!
I have to say, I loved your dog being involved in the process. I think that’s the first time I’ve watched an ad! 😂
I really enjoy Az's tasting notes.
Sounds up my alley. I even have most of those ingredients on hand. Thanks!
Freya is a cutie
Cheers! Enjoy the weekend

This looks delicious! I'll need to get some of the ingredients I'm missing and give it a try.

Thought about it - good to know three's some interest
@@AndersErickson great idea

@@AndersErickson Thanks so much Anders! Be well!! Cheers! 🙂
Always good to drop in…. Cheers !
Haha! I love the dog! So funny, and awesome.
2 oz in the glass. Nice tip Anders! Great drink
the story around the cocktail is the best...
Thank you for this. I swapped out the cherry hearing for pear brandy, and it was exquisite!
That looks good, definitely going to give it a try
On the big island of Hawaii, I had the most amazing passion fruit Mojito. That Chinola would be great for that!!
Where at? I’m on Big Island also!

St George is my absolute favorite absinthe, i would love to hear your take on balancing cocktails using different beands

Great history lesson this week. And great dog expressions too.
Drink suggestion!
Black Bean Margarita
3 OZ reposado Tequila
3/4 OZ black bean can juice
1 OZ Cointreau orange liqueur
Half OZ agave syrup
Half a tablespoon chopped cilantro
Pinch cumin
Pinch chili powder
Pinch cayenne pepper
4 muddled lime wedges or juice of half a lime
Shake in cocktail shaker with ice
Pour over ice, sprinkle with salt (black salt if you have it) and enjoy!
Should I just make this in the bathroom?
Look at that puppy AWWW
Now THAT looks like a tasty beverage. Though not sure Oz was convinced... 🙂
Love this drink, Anders! I first tried it with the specs from the PDT Cocktail Book (w/ the full 2 oz rye). Trying your version tonight. Cheers. To the bar!
what a twist at the end!
Freya joining today was a fun idea. I hope to see more of her.....

I made this last night. Very good. But, it seems like a Turf Club with rye swapped for the gin. Still, good cocktail to add to my rotation.
I remember the Maine. I’m gonna see them next March lol
OK, this drink looks pretty cool. I don't have Cherry Heering. I do have this German cherry liqueur called the Eckes Kirsch, so wanna try this out with that. Maybe it will be good? Who knows until I try it. Looks like a great recipe, thanks Anders. As always.
Hope you enjoy it. Cheers
If I recall, Eckes Kirsch is a bit sweeter than Cherry Heering, but it's been a while.
@alfredanheier4779 I need to taste it still. I'm a little scared to open it, because the reviews have been mixed. Some say it's amazing, some say it's horrible.
Yum! I’m off to the bar!
I know that bottle! (the Chinola!) I have to clean that bottle all the time... ugh. But it IS good!
Hey Lisa, were glad to hear you enjoy Chinola, we know the yellow contents of our bottle can be messy, but its all the flavour concentration that is waiting to burst in your mouth!!
I would watch every add if there is a cocktail recipe in it
Learned about a funny take on this cocktail called “Remember me, Mang” which swaps Whiskey for Anejo Tequila and Absinthe for Mezcal.
LOL on “sinking” there at the end!
Killer cocktail, well done indeed.
Anders on point, as always...great cocktail and great video as usual.
What are the benefits of doing an absinthe rinse as opposed to just adding 5mL or so to the cocktail as you mix? Potentially even using a dasher bottle to add in minimal amounts?
For the first time I wanted the commercial to last longer.

Dear @AndersErickson, what if I really want to try this cocktail tonight, but I don't have cherry heering?
Fine video and interesting cocktail. Could I substitute Maraschino liqueur for the cherry heering?
Passion fruit freak here had to order it!
I get the impression that you've already had a few lovely drinks before filming.
You were sinking there in the end, just like the Maine. So ... Remember the Anders!
You´re the James Hoffmann of cocktails!
Awwwww Puppy!!!!!!!! 🐕
Today is the Navy's birthday. idk if that was intentional, but fitting nonetheless
Make a riff called "To Hell with Spain" please! Maybe brandy and PX?
Great content, as always. Will try this one. Anders, would like to see your take on The Hunter. Similar ingredients - Rye, Vermouth, Cherry Heering, only Luxardo instead of Absinthe. It’s fantastic.
My mom’s great grandfather was supposed to have been on the Maine when it blew up. No one seems to know why he wasn’t on board.
🎵This is 40% rye, 20% George, 15% concentrated cocchi vermouth di Torino-🎶
Speaking of chopsticks, I've taken to using one to stir the cocktail in the mixing glass. I don't have to figure out the right grip for the spoon to rotate that way.
Oh no, the bar is sinking! Spain must be behind it!
Can the dog be in every video going forward lol.
Could I make this with Maraschino as a substitute? Perhaps more Rye? Your vids are the best as always. Cheers
