Eric Clapton can play guitar, Rory can play guitar. Clapton can write songs, Rory can write songs. Clapton can sing, Rory can sing. The difference between them, Rory can put on a show, his showmanship surpasses Claptons hands down.
But so different emotional outcomes.... lively ,,cheerfully ,joyfully ,full explosive FUN must be Rory ... only Rory could create that ultimate extraordinary level.
As much as I admire Clapton as a guitar genius, I would have to agree that Rory is a cut above. He has a certain something about his playing Clapton just hasn't got. Rory is a HUGE hero of mine.
My dad grew up on Rory. Passed it onto me, as a kid. Here I am. Almost 40 years old, and still singing & praising this Genius. Jinx will always be my favorite Rory album. And I'll tell my kids the same that this man is a guitar god!
Why isn't Rory Gallagher in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? How can anyone take that institution seriously unless he is inducted? He was the real deal, a beautiful genius.

A lot of acts wouldn't play venues in Northern Ireland during the 70's and 80's. Rory Gallagher was one of the few who did. His "Irish Tour" album and DVD is great.
I picked up the guitar because I wanted to play like Rory and I put it down because I realized I never could. But I don't feel TOO bad because no one else could either.
Rory inspired you and so many others to play to feel that wonderful feeling of being such a big part of the music that's a priceless gift and you will never forget that you were inspired by this wonderful talented beautiful man Angel Rory. Wow.... I just watched this one again, and I have the chills.. You're right, that second solo was outstanding and electric. I think that the best shows Rory played were in Belfast. I think he relished in helping to bring brothers together during the troubles, and causing a "cease fire", at least for a while. He was an angel on this Earth, and he is missed so badly. I always get stoked when he reaches into that back pocket and pulls out the slide, you just know good things are gonna happen!!
I just discovered Rory a while ago: I was in Cork and got lost, ended up in Rory Gallagher s Square. Name rang a bell, but I didn't know him. Now I can't stop listening to his music: a true legend, brilliant, a genius. But he was a normal person, no bullshit around him at al: just a HJGE heart. He re touches your soul. True angel, for sure. This guy leaves me speechless. Glad to reae what you say about what he did during the troubles.

What killer rocking tune and will sound just as good and fresh if played in 200 years time, I was at this gig, the memories are still completely fresh in my mind as it happened yesterday. The woodworks sneaked out of the timber on the floor and left the stage, they just could not take the volume and vibrations. Forget about time, Rory makes this totally timeless

Rory gallaher. The standard by wich we judge all other guitarists. The energy ,passion and love for the music just pours out of this man. A top notch player and entertainer. Simply amazing. Ive seen a lot of concerts in the seventies but these guys blow them all away.

Every word so true. He wasn't making money for the big music industries here in USA because he controlled his own copyrights & music and refused to give in to them. He still had a huge following here with sell-out crowds wherever he played.A smart man & a master musician/performer. I saw him once & will never forget it. His talent & charisma is unmatched IMO. Well said Dutchtricks. I'll add my two cents. Rory often did not play with a setlist. He was that good. He went by the feel of the night, the feel of the crowd, and the way that he felt at a particular moment. And then he just started to play, and the band would jump in with him. They were expected to be ready, and they were. A very extreme situation, but the best for a live performance - Always edgy, always unscripted, always 110% LIVE. Rory is the greatest frontman/guitarist in history

i saw him live 2 times in belgium ,first time was at the brussels university, always been my favorite guitarist, i have one photo of him at the second concert i went to see in a flemishe town outside of brussel if i remember it was in 1986, he was the real thing
Last year I visited Belfast for the first time in my life. I felt the special atmosphere I always felt when I visited Rory's concert in the Netherland. Special, too bad I couldn't see him in those days.

On 31 may 1984 i saw one of THE greates gigs in my life: Rory Gallagher - live at nygaardsparken (Bergen/Norway - 15000 people was there). Two hours anf fortyfive minutes of sheer brilliance from Rory and his band! I will never forget it!
Remember that open air consert too. I had travelled from Oslo to see him. Glad to have witnessed him once live. They had to evacuate people in wheelchairs across the stage. The consert arrangers probably did`nt know what kind of high energy performer they were dealing with.
Love how he dials it down and then amps it up and starts bopping all over the stage! A true musical genius in total command of the fretboard. Rory truely tamed the beast. RIP legend.
I never comment on these videos, but I had to when I saw this. I saw Gallagher in the early 80s opening with ZZ Top and he blew them away; and I loved ZZ Top! I had never even heard of him, but after I saw him play this song at the show, I was hooked. Rory Gallagher is a Rocker in the true, original sense of the word!
Truly fucking awesome performance by all three and I think that’s the only time I seen Rory without his Stratocaster I think he used a Fender Mustang here sounds just as sweet though

Singing, playing, filling the in-between spaces, and all of that with an energy level that was second to none. There's a few other performers who i like equally, but to go see live? I was lucky enough to see him 3 times. The first was as the opening act for ZZ top. He blew them away. Not even close.

I remember on the 20th anniversary of his death that no radio station in Chicago even acknowledged his passing much less ever played any of his music.
