I just upgraded to the previous iPad 6 months ago. I am disappointed in Apple trying to force me to upgrade if I want to use the new pencil pro. Apple could have easily made it work in the iPad design if they wanted to. This is obsolescence by design.
I’m getting ready to upgrade my iPad Pro and this helped a lot. I do art, video and photo so the pencil type will weigh in on my decision. Currently I have the 1st gen(I believe) iPad Pro with the 1st gen Apple Pencil so it’ll be a big upgrade either way.
I won’t be upgrading as love my iPad mini 6 and Apple Pencil 2. When you do your tutorials with the new iPad and Pencil will it still be compatible for the ones of us who haven’t upgraded please?
You can follow his tutorials if you have a Samsung tablet with a s-pen (or whatever they call it). You might need to use your imagination just a bit more, but it should absolutely be doable. A different apple pencil isn't going to have any effect.
I totally agree on the Pencil 2 double tap feature. It can be annoying. My 2018 iPad Pro gets a bit warm with Procreate. It seems to be quite demanding. So, that’s my excuse for upgrading!
Can I Ask you about feature in gallery: you hold picture and then you can make for example cat sticker from photo, id this feature working im your iPad?
I would like to inquire about the battery performance and durability of the device under consideration. It appears the pencil has no power toggle switch. I previously encountered a rather unfortunate predicament wherein the original Apple Pencil, having only once been inadvertently left uncharged, succumbed to the perils of depleted energy and failed to regain functionality thereafter.
With a real calligraphy pen or brush, you _do_ sometimes need to change the angle for certain effects. Prior to the barrel roll feature, it wasn't possible to get that effect with the Apple Pencil at all. I grant it's not something most people will need, but it does open the door to things that were practically impossible before.
I definitely think the barrel roll will help with some brushes that seem to go backwards before they go in the right direction, if that makes sense. It’s very annoying like drawing say braids and the first one is backward.
I wouldn't buy the new Pencil Pro especially for the new functions (although they are pretty great to me), but since my old iPad Pro is showing aging problems I planned to buy the new iPad Pro anyway and since you can't use the old but 100% fine working Pencil (which is not so nice by moneygrabbing Apple (I'm trying to keep the language clean here)) I need to buy that also. I sure hope the programmer of Sketch Club (which is the application I use to draw) will programm the new features into the app. I think it's great that the setting is in each of the brushes. For some brushes you don't want it to "wobble" because of you changing the position of the pencil ever so slightly. And for some brushes it's absolutely wonderful to be able to steer the position. Yesterday I returned my nano texture iPad Pro and after money refund I'll order the 2TB iPad Pro with 'normal' screen. The keyboard and Pencil Pro are already on my work table. I can hear the haptic feedback of the Pencil Pro! It can't wait for the iPad Pro to arrive haha 😂
I appreciate your video comparisons and tutorials. I hope you share about the difference in sizes between the Pro and Air 13" and 11" if you got them? Every iPad update I've done has been based on the new features and size. I can remember my first iPad was the iPad 2, then I got the first gen iPad Pro 12.9" and I had that for a while before "downsizing" to the iPad Mini 6th Gen and recently traded that one in to get the latest M2 iPad Air 13" as I feel I don't really need the expense or fanciness of the Pro features. I was going to attempt using the iPad without an apple pencil as my pencil 2 is now useless to me but I caved and will receive the pro pencil this week. I'm hoping I can sell/give away the pencil 2 to someone who needs it.
Great review/comparison, thanks! They should have just made the haptic feedback on the base Pencil 2 model. But really these squeeze and tap functions are reinventing the wheel. I love the gestures as a method of interaction on touch screen, so Apple definitely improved my workflow with that. But they should have just put 2 buttons on the Pencil like Wacom. So in case of gestures, they make keyboards obsolete for many applications. But having buttons on the stylus is most efficient and pleasant. They take tactile “effort” to push that’s both pleasant and not prone to accidents. The tap/squeeze Pencil should be the regular model, but the one with 2 buttons - Pro model. This is design driven by fad, as in, look we’ve come up with something new. A proper innovation is talking to artists and working with artists. Watching what they’re doing and improving their workflow. Don’t get me wrong, I love Apple Pencil even version 1, but they haven’t improved it functionally. I mean look at mechanical pencils, they have erasers built in. Why? So you could flip it over, erase, and flip back to sketch. Tap to switch to eraser (and looking to confirm that you actually did) is equivalent to picking up a separate eraser, using it, and then picking up the pencil again. How cool would it be to press and hold a button to erase instead? 99.9% of the time you use an eraser to fix things, not go into a whole erasing session! This “toggle” thing just doesn’t work, because you have to confirm it by looking at the icons. Yes I still use it anyway, but it’s just not ideal. And the 2nd button could be a color picker or some other programmable function.
Double tap is only annoying if you don’t use a rubber on your pencil. If you do this feature works as intended without accidental tapping. It’s so much faster ✌️
@@JamesJulier-Artist I had double tap always off but recently discovered that is doesn't really work when rubber is on 😁 it made me very happy because now I do actually use it and I like it. With squeeze that combo will be really nice 👍

I would still trust more than an after market pencil though.
