The problem with this is that it opens a precedent. I really think we should start preparing for more of these situations to happen. Lawyer up, understand a bit more about our rights to freedom of speech and study solid responses to tell the officers. I'm really mad at this situation.
In criminology, public-order crime is defined as "crime which involves acts that interfere with the operations of society and the ability of people to function efficiently". If I'm ever accused with some bullshit like that that I don't know the meaning of I will ask the officers to define the offense as I don't understand what I'm being accused of. And confirm with an internet search. We can't be shut down just because of feelings.
imagine someone will make a game where you can slaughter pigs, cow etc... and people will be get offended 100% or hate the game why someone will make game like this? but other side of the coin that sad reality...
@Matt Pretorius following on from what happened here, I would say YES the police 🚨 would have to close down the Murder Factory‼️ Great Point - Well Made 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 👩🏻💻
They need the police to stop making up laws. Causing harassment, distress or alarm is not an offence under the public order legislation. It requires threatening or abusive behaviour and intent. The police are wrong.
@@nerdyali4154 "Disorderly behaviour" is also included. There need not be an actual complainant, the offence is complete if the behaviour could be seen by someone of 'reasonable firmness' to cause them alarm, harassment or distress. So the act of showing kids in the street images of animals being killed could very much amount to an offence under S5. He mentioned people could "look away" but that is irrelevant. The police are not in the wrong, it's been the law since 1986 (though previously amended to remove 'insulting' for the wording). Just because this guy is making a moral point, doesn't mean he's in the right or that it's not against the law.
@@ultra_vires I get that, I just think it’s kinda... dumb. If a person is a predator meant to eat animals, why can’t they look at animals being killed, something they should be doing in the wild? If a kid sees an animal being killed in public, and there is not anything wrong with killing animals, I just don’t understand how a display of something that is not wrong would result in that being wrong. If killing animals is not wrong, showing it shouldn’t be, either. God forbid a kid realizes where there meal comes from. Like, an animal literally died to form one of many burgers, blended up with their friends, a kid eats it, and they see that animal die... what is worse, seeing an animal die, or dying and getting eaten and problem thrown out halfway by a kid?
Well thats the problem, we dont have it, its a disgrace how our police enforce the "communications act" in this country, anything can be "offensive" its a fucking joke. If the TRUTH is offensive.... Uh, deal with it?
Do the officers not realise their actions have caused a dangerous precedent? They have just reaffirmed to someone that they can shut down anything they don’t agree with under the pretence of being offended.
Yes, very much so. What is the number of the local police station there. Are there any kfc, McDonald’s or Burger King ads at bud stops of anything. We all should phone the police and tell them the pictures being displayed of murdered cows and chickens by these companies are highly offensive and are causing us all harassment alarm and distress.
@@smotty2hotty I completely agree. We should all do this. I'm offended & distressed by the local cattle mart here also that every Monday have truck loads of innocent animals being sold off as "stock" left in these trucks for hours on end. I can hear their crys at night from this mart. It breaks my heart.
The way she radioed it in with "he's kind of refusing to speak to us because we are PCSOs" to make it seem like he was being abusive was not cool. Probably due for some "retraining".
I'm not a vegan, but this guy has a right to protest without being harassed by the police. If only they were this enthusiastic about responding to actual crime...
Yeah i love meat but he wasn’t being a dick trying to force Veganism onto people he’s totally got a right and i think people should see what happens to the animals but I hate people abusing their power and that special at the beginning was a prime example, the police at the end I think actually felt a little bit bad when they realised he was a good guy.
Exactly when someone robs a store the cops do nothing but they rather harrass vegans for protesting... They should be stopping real crimes not harassing people protesting....
I know there's no proof but I wouldn't be surprised if that first PCSO who was the 'offended one' and got their bully brigade to close shop. The male officer shouldn't lie about saying its a LAW that's he's broken.
No its the fact he is breaking the law in his actions specifically the Indecent Displays (Control) act of 1981 which can carry a term of 2yrs in prison... as this law is very rarely breached it often is the case the street officers themselves cannot recite it and thus he mentions discretion, given there are 10's of thousands of laws out there I actually would be impressed if they could cite it. As for the vegan mentality here, so your fine trying to protect animal welfare but have absolutely no concern about child abuse, any minor walking past who sees them images could have psychological payback which may last hours or in rarer cases a lifetime, young minds are not ready or conditioned to be exposed to these images and this guy or any of you have no right to shove such content into a child's mind, that is why images and films for official public viewing have to carry age restrictions if the content deems it needs to....
@@TruthTortoise81 Think you need to read the act I expressed it falls foul of, do not shoot the messenger, you simply cannot show these images in public especially where there is the risk of minors seeing them. It's funny how that every other industry (excluding the exemptions listed in the act) and public service has to adhere to strict guidelines including the BBC of what they can show, what time and what warnings need to be implicated none of which this bloke on the street bothered to consider or implicate, had he set up a booth that obscured the images from accidental viewing with pre-warnings to those that wished to watch it then that would have satisfied the act, in fact because man is a curious being, the booth would have got more attention then his completely open method here. There is absolutely no Irony in what I said, there are similar acts for nudity too, your take on it would be they see their own naked body so what is the problem as that is how you are trying to justify your response, just because this is how the animals are legally slaughtered does not give the right to publicly show them. I will end by saying that said images I saw on the TV in the video were not all from registered UK slaughter methods or following UK animal welfare legislation for which we have some of the highest global standards... all imports have to meet these standards too... it is clear the footage is misleading in that context and is inferring these practices as shown are what occur in products on UK shelves, some of the footage did not represent that, had he used the correct footage it wouldn't have the desired impact would it so there is deliberate misleading content.
You are aware that most of Friedrich Nietzsche's teachings (particular in his book "Beyond good and evil) relate to creating your own values instead of allowing the values of others to influence you, right? But if you had your way, you'd impose your values regarding dietary choices onto the rest of the world. So in reality, Friedrich Nietzsche's teachings on creating one's own values is in stark contrast to your desire of imposing your vegan values onto everyone else. So maybe Friedrich Nietzsche isn't the best person for you to be quoting.
@@lonelycake4114, yeah &? He still created his own values just like he teaches others to do. So what his particular values were aren't really relevant. What's relevant was his desire to create those values he had for himself.
How dare the cops enforce a well established law that's been around for decades. Kids should have this pushed in their face when out shopping! Shame on the cops for standing up for a shred of decency!
@@ultra_vires ahh clearly you don't know what you're talking about in the slightest. Can I ask what 'well established' law they are supposedly enforcing. If you are going to say it fallls under a section of the public order act then I'd suggest you look up the law more thoroughly. Causing harassment, alarm or distress is not actually illegal unless it is directed at people intentionally. Otherwise as the person in the video stated anyone could be offended by anything even though there was no intention by that person to cause such feelings.
I don't think that's fair to say. It's fair to not want to see it. Not saying you should or do care but you would get far less backlash and a lot more understanding if you weren't on the attack.
This is madness. Absolutely nonsensical. Being offended by a screen showing the way these animals get into your plate does not make you victim of a crime. Thank you Joey for standing up for them. Much love and keep doing what you do
Maybe someone running a restaurant near by didn't want the competition for the short time Joey was giving away Beyond Burgers. Maybe they called the Police.
Joey- Maybe next time you show slaughterhouse videos, you can have a screen showing people harvesting plants for us to eat. You could ask them- "Which do you want to pay for?"
That... actually... might be a doable thing. I mean... I could write an "AI" program that watches TV... and when it detects a animal product, it dials a phone-number and leaves an automated message... The wheels in this rabbit's brain are turning...
@Adam Mooney I’m a ‘lefty’ and you’re talking shit mate. Section 5 is the most abused piece of legislation ever used. Liberal Lefties like me believe in freedom and liberty, it’s the righties who stamp all over people’s rights, discriminate and hate freedom.
Yep Police are useless, they avoid real crime and my conclusion is because they are lazy, disorganised or not bright, perhaps combination. Just my observation but police do more harm than good in reality from my experience.
I just don’t understand how they have all the resources in the world for peaceful protests but can’t go to someone’s house right away when there’s been an actual crime like assault, robbery or murder? They somehow take hours to turn up for that 🤔
I'm a cop and those cops were properly out of their depth. Didn't have the common sense or experience to assess what was going on and allow you to continued! That was embarrassing

@@best-qg5uj The world is going to be vegan sooner or later. Your offsprings will be vegan. Animal agriculture is causing: 1/3 of pandemics, 15% greenhouse gas emissions, 2 acres (0.8ha) of Amazon forest ruined each second to grow animal feed exported globally, causing 1 entire species extinct each minute, day and night. Animal agriculture is responsible for 1/4 of freshwater consumption in the world, contaminating more. Animal Agriculture and Aquaculture accounted for 131,000 tonnes or 76% of antibiotic use worldwide. 80% of all antibiotics in the US are for farmed animals - not to treat illness but to maximise growth and cut on stress. WHO says: "Antibiotic resistance is one of the biggest threats to global health, food security, and development today. (...) misuse of antibiotics in humans and animals is accelerating the process." There is no nutritional need for humans to eat any animal products; all of our dietary needs, even as infants and children, are best supplied by an animal-free diet. Major health problems in the world are caused by carnism. A farm with 2,500 cows produces the same amount of waste as a city of 411,000 people. 2,500 gallons of water are needed to produce 1 pound of beef. Animal agriculture is responsible for up to 91% of the Amazon rainforest destruction. Animal agriculture causes ocean dead zones due to overfishing, pollution and climate change which is ruining marine ecosystems. Fishing has wiped out 90% of the world's large fish. Approx. 300,000 dolphins, whales, and porpoises are killed by fishing operations every year. Fishing kills up to 30,000 sharks every hour. Dumping the fishing gear (640,000 tonnes per year) is by far the deadliest form of marine plastic. Dwarfing the straws. $35 Billion in subsidies goes to the fishing industry worldwide - paying for bigger ships, more fuel, fishing licences, and the capture of even more marine life. For comparison, NASA's budget is $22 billion. Globally there are $500 billion of agricultural subsidies (taxpayers' money) for animal agriculture each year. Plus it's causing the same if not more amount of damage and things you can't put a price on. Do animals feel pain? Watch Dominion or Cowspiracy on youtube, cruelty warning: it shows what's on the plate, including "free range" and "humane slaughter". If you eat eggs, then you pay for male chicks to be minced alive, they are a by-product of force reproducing hens. If you drink milk then male calves are slaughtered at birth, female babies taken away so they don't drink "your" milk. "Happy meal" and ice-cream for kids contains that pain. Cows mourn for days and they can't forget for a longer time. You put their milk in coffee, because oat milk is too weird. Vegan alternatives are on the shelves, just one your decision saves cruelty. Cows produce methane (super potent greenhouse gas, 25 times stronger than CO2) from their four stomachs. There are one billion cows force-reproduced (raped by humans). Cows produce 1/3 of all farmed animals greenhouse gas emissions, animal farming makes 15% of all human caused emissions. 86% of all land mammals are now livestock or humans. Huge land usage of livestock - it provides just 18% of calories but takes 83% of farmland. Majority of crops are fed to animals. Avoiding meat and dairy products is the single biggest way to reduce your environmental impact on the planet, according to the scientists behind the most comprehensive analysis to date of the damage farming does to the planet. Without meat and dairy consumption, global farmland use could be reduced by more than 75% and still feed the world. Loss of wild areas to agriculture is the leading cause of the current mass extinction of wildlife. Prevent dangerous climate change, reduce pandemic risk, and protect animals. Veganism is easing the stress put on the planet by animal agriculture. If you dispose trash properly, recycle, conserve resources, care about clean water and atmosphere then veganism is the top one thing you could do. Go vegan, it's the most effective thing to do for the environment. Globally switching to a whole food plant based diet has the potential to return millions of acres of land to wild habitat, to reverse rainforest destruction, to restore the health and volume of our freshwater rivers and lakes, to prevent further species extinctions, to eliminate billions of tons of pollutants (cow dung, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxides, and ammonia), and to make a major contribution to stabilising and reversing climate change. Gradually as people become conscious of the ethical, environmental, economic, and health benefits then they will find the motivation to choose a plant based diet. People eat only a selection of species and find disgusting and immoral to do the same to the rest of animal species. Carnivore diet is not a personal preference. It is inflicting harm on all people, animals and the planet. Being vegan cuts your carbon footprint in half. If all people were vegan our global warming footprint would be reduced by 28% A vegan diet would reduce the EU’s agricultural emissions by 70%. Vegans save 1,100 gallons (4100 l) of water each day. Vegans save 45 pounds (20kg) of grain each day. Vegans save 30 animals each month. So many world problems would be fixed with you reaching for a plant-based product from the shelf next time you shop. Veganism is natural for our digestive system. 30 million people chose to be vegan + 50 million are nearly-vegan. Miss Universe and Germany's Strongest Man are vegan. Plants have protein. 1/3 of animals are herbivores including a horse, rhino, bison, gorilla and elephant. Love Animals? Let's be clear... 99% of animal abuse happens because ordinary people pay for it to happen. Humans are perfectly fine to be herbivores. With substitutes getting better each year it's easier to switch to a vegan lifestyle. It's 21st century, cruelty to people, animals and the planet can be greatly reduced. "Don't talk of love and peace when you have a dead animal on your plate" - Socrates "One day the absurdity of the almost universal human belief in the slavery of other animals will be palpable. We shall then have discovered our souls and become worthier of sharing this planet with them." Most politicians are not leaders. Politicians do only what voters like so they get re-elected. Leaders always do the right thing. Lets tax meat and dairy. Divert subsidies to educating people and vegan food, we could easily replicate the taste. American Diet Association, British Diet Association and NHS confirm that a vegan diet can support healthy living in people of all ages. All animals deserve protection, including those that are abused for "food" while plant-based alternatives are available. Dear vegans, please share this all over the internet, and email it to leaders, they won't do anything for the planet, only regular people like us can make a change. Copy & share this in any way: small bits, whole, re-edit, or create your own.

I think the police have better things to do than piling someone up for this , I wouldn't like to see any sort of animal being killed for food and I wouldn't like my children or grandchildren seeing this we don't need educating on this matter . Nobody is getting harassed by seeing a slaughtered pig, they probably just got done eating one. Ridiculous. Also, they have no idea what harassment actually is. If you want harassment, the animals are harassed(to put it VERY lightly) and then murdered. Showing people what actually happens is enlightening and can spark positive change, if you get upset over this you should be upset. Get upset, and then do something about it, put the knife down. I went vegan on July 4th, 2020 after being a vegetarian for a year. I realized what I was doing and stopped. Not that it was related but I've also been sober for 7 months, April 19th, 2020. I've never been healthier and my body thanks me every day. I've always been an animal lover, but my actions weren't aligned. Choose vegan, go plant based. 🌱❤
Yeah, it's all bullshit just because the government cares more about money than morality. Abusing and exploiting animals, completely legal but exposing and showing it to educate people is somehow illegal.

As a species we are dumber than dumb. In fact id say most animals have a superior awareness and compassion compared to the average human. Not all of us are like that
I think people are offended for all the right reasons. However the one person who complained here is probibly the person who makes the most money out of the meat trade.
so if I see a butchers window with hanging dead animal baby body's all cut up its ok. but if I show the animals before they get to the butchers its not wtf. I would of just said how can are food make us alarmed and distressed then it cant be food if it dose.

If it was me I'd quote the public order act. It states an offence is created if someone intentionally causes harassment, alarm and distress via:abusive, threatening or insulting images. What you did is none of the above.
Technically his intention was to alarm and distress, but he can always claim that his intention was merely to educate. And there is only warrant for legal action if the material might reasonably cause offence: showing people the standard legal practices that they are responsible for with their purchases shouldn't do that. If it's legal, it shouldn't be distressing, and if it's distressing then it shouldn't be legal.
And in any case, the public order act needs to be balanced against this: ARTICLE 10 Freedom of expression 1. Everyone has the right to freedom of expression. This right shall include freedom to hold opinions and to receive and impart information and ideas without interference by public authority and regardless of frontiers. This Article shall not prevent States from requiring the licensing of broadcasting, television or cinema enterprises. 2. I am surprised that the police can spare time to deal with phone calls from offended persons.
of course they can spare time to deal with pettiness since they don’t respond to actual crimes
they're community support officers not police officers. That's the entire reason
Community police officers being arrogant and forceful we do not need. We need community police on our streets who are tolerant and helpful.
Clearly the UK needs to change their laws concerning free speech
@@ultra_vires
I get that, I just think it’s kinda...

If all people were vegan our global warming footprint would be reduced by 28%
A vegan diet would reduce the EU’s agricultural emissions by 70%.
Vegans save 1,100 gallons (4100 l) of water each day.

Imagine someone showing shortage of concentration camps during WWII and cops coming over saying "You can't show this, it's too offensive ".
As a student many many years ago our class went to a slaughter house I threw up it was horrendous did put me off bacon butties for a while, but if you truely believe life is sacred all life is sacred so salad is off the menu as well have a good and long life just breathing, oops breathing is not allowed as you destroy oxygen
Sage Are not all animals harassed?
What if a child walked by and saw that? Slaughter cannot be displayed publicly in this manner unfortunately.
@Shinra Would you be fine with showing your child an animal getting killed?
2:43 She says that if someone is alarm, harassed or distressed then its a crime. *NO IT ISN'T* The important bit she has left out of the law she is quoting is if the actions or words are threatening or abusive.
*Trillions* tortured and slaughtered
Or one person offended
Humans have gotta be really primitive for that logic to ever succeed
The legal system has a long way to go
As a species we are dumber than dumb. In fact id say most animals have a superior awareness and compassion compared to the average human. Not all of us are like that
I think people are offended for all the right reasons. However the one person who complained here is probibly the person who makes the most money out of the meat trade.
Joey really is an impressive person. Courage, brains, hard work, compassion, patience. Must hurt to be him most of the time...
so if I see a butchers window with hanging dead animal baby body's all cut up its ok.
but if I show the animals before they get to the butchers its not wtf.
I would of just said how can are food make us alarmed and distressed then it cant be food if it dose.
Exactly.
Imagine if the police had to deal with every offended vegan complaint of alarm and distress.
Yeah because its our natural diet lol
@S W That's a presumptive statement. I don't support abortion unless it's for a very serious reason.
Classic section 5 EY Dave 🤣.
By their logic you could complain about animal carcases hanging in a butchers, as it offends you. .

You dealt with that so well Joey - absolute inspiration!

Offence is subjective and she showed how easily people get offended at nothing: oh, you don't like PCSOs...

McDonald’s worker: there’s some vegan outside showing Slaughter footage.

I can’t believe that they’re being so hypocritical 😒 love you joey 💚 thank you for everything you do 🌱
this is exactly what is wrong with the world....you can get into trouble for doing the right thing
That sentence can be wrongly interpreted. I can get footage of women being raped mutilated killed, and I whould be arrested in public for showing that. So... whats wrong in showing humans being killed, head removed, fingers cutter? Still an abuse that needs to be shown to the world. How's that im going to get arrested to show my point and he is not? well its better to keep your cool when dealing with "authority" even with renta cops like this lady who's not even a real police officer. but she can call the police and cause a real problem. which she did,

I'm not a vegan, and I've done work in a very large beef processing facility. I actually believe people should see this. If you can't stomach how that meat gets to your plate, perhaps you should reassess your support of that industry.
Agreed! Just curious tho, what is your justification for killing animals?

Wild animals in nature rape and kill each other, eat rival's children etc. etc.
Does that mean there's nothing wrong with it?
...This appeal to nature is a complete logical fallacy in this context.
We humans have moral agency, a choice and better alternatives.
Animals in nature have none of these.
@@pacmanmcgavin7034
Humans have no need to consume animal products, hence there is no moral justification for abusing and killing sentient beings when it can easily be avoided. Once again, we have the moral agency, the choice and the better alternatives to do so.
So, if we have no need for it and its purely done for taste, convenience and tradition in today's modern society, how is it not comparable to rape anyway, the idea that just because one *can* exploit and kill animals one has the right to do so even if its unnecessary?
Might does not make right, and going by the logic of "we can eat meat, therefore we will, at the expense of innocents, even though it can be avoided, with total disregard for the *victims*"
therefore is equivalent to "I like sex, and I'm able to take it if I want it - even though there is no actual need to do it in terms of survival etc., and absolutely no justification - with total disregard for the victims".
@@pacmanmcgavin7034
"Is a whale morally corrupt for consuming plankton"
No, what part of *we as humans have a choice, moral agency and better alternatives readily available* do you not understand?
*That* is why it is wrong for you to victimize certain animals that you discriminate based on arbitrary norms and conditioning.
We don't treat dogs or cats or guinea pigs with respect and love without cutting their throat for a sandwich because "as though they are people".
Vegans get upset and angry at the exploitation and suffering of all animals just like you (hopefully) and other people do when they see cats or dogs suffering at the hands of humans. The difference between us is that vegans are actually consistent in their indignation.
@@pacmanmcgavin7034
Your claims are highly uninformed.
"Veganism is ‘single biggest way’ to reduce our environmental impact:
Researchers at the University of Oxford found that cutting meat and dairy products from your diet could reduce an individual's carbon footprint from food by up to 73 per cent.
If everyone stopped eating these foods, they found that global farmland use could be reduced by 75 per cent, an area equivalent to the size of the US, China, Australia and the EU combined.
Not only would this result in a significant drop in greenhouse gas emissions, it would also free up wild land lost to agriculture, one of the primary causes for mass wildlife extinction."

About health and nutrition:
"It is the position of the American Dietetic Association that appropriately planned vegetarian diets, including total vegetarian or vegan diets, are healthful, nutritionally adequate, and may provide health benefits in the prevention and treatment of certain diseases. Well-planned vegetarian diets are appropriate for individuals during all stages of the life cycle, including pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood, and adolescence, and for athletes."
"Overall nutrition, as assessed by the Alternative Healthy Eating Index, is typically better on vegetarian and vegan diets compared with omnivorous diets. While some vegetarian diets may be low in certain nutrients, such as calcium and vitamin B-12, this can be remedied by appropriate planning. Compared to nonveg diets, veg diets can provide protection against many chronic diseases, such as heart disease, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, obesity, and some cancers. Furthermore, a vegan diet could make more conservative use of natural resources and cause less environmental degradation"

It comes to something when showing a legal process causes distress to the public. Maybe it shouldn’t be legal then !!
@@artistsanomalous7369 well precisely. There was no abusive, threatening or insulting images there.
And in any case, the public order act needs to be balanced against this:
