    The first story was so sad...My cousin was 17 when he died while out with his friends cruising backroads one night...There were a group of kids with him and all we know is that he somehow wound up run over and killed by his own truck. The kids wouldn’t talk to the police and no one was ever charged. His parents and the rest of our family have wondered all these years what really happened. His mom passed away last year never knowing what really happened to her son. I could not imagine losing a child, much less to something so tragic. I really feel awful for the family in this first story.

      It's awful not knowing. What a burden for your family. My husband told me a story about a time he and his brother hot wired his sister's car and took turns riding on the sideboards while the other drove. Until, that is, his brother thought it would be funny to hit the brakes and Bryan went flying. At low speeds, thank goodness, he only got a head to toe road rash down one side of his body. A lie to the folks about a foot race gone bad and all was well.
      I'm not trying to defend the kids, because of course they should come clean, but what most likely happened was the kids were doing something they shouldn't have been doing, and it resulted in your cousin's death. Reckless fun without thought to the consequences until it was too late. And then they felt they had to keep it quiet for fear of the punishment. Most of the time what they're afraid will happen to them is worse than what would happen if they'd just fess up. Again, I am sorry.

    • @fawn4968
      @fawn4968 4 года назад +9

      Cheri Chesley thank you so much...I agree with you that they were most likely doing something they thought they would get in trouble for and just kept quiet out of fear of punishment...you know, I hadn’t really thought about it, but I’m sure they relive that night over and over in their daily lives...just a sad situation for all involved...I’m glad your husband’s family member was not seriously hurt in their accident, though! It’s truly scary how just some teenage fun can escalate into tragedy!

      Yeah man! Pretty much the same with me here. I'm 40 now, and as a kid, in the late 80s and early 90s, I was watching these as well, on TV, in Macedonia, which, back then, was even more unlikely of America, yet, we grew up on American films, reading Sergio Bonelli Comics, Wild West strip stories, so, with a friend from school, almost each time, we were engulfed by it, and next day at school, retold one another what happened, who thought what about some of the stories, etc....
      Damn! Amazing how something like that could bring up the same emotions to people (kids) from different parts of Europe, and the world!
      Cheers!

    The William Bradford Bishop case is one of the most spine tingling segments ever aired on UM...

    • @vegetasolo1221
      @vegetasolo1221 5 лет назад +56

      In Fall 1992, investigators located an old letter which indicated that Bishop had tried to hire someone to kill his family before he committed the crimes himself. The letter was from convicted bank robber Albert Kenneth Bankston who had corresponded with Bishop. However, it is unknown what other connections the two men may have had. The most recent sighting of Bishop was on September 19, 1994 in Basel, Switzerland, by a neighbor.
      On April 10, 2014, Bishop was added to the FBI's Ten Most Wanted List. In October of 2014, authorities received a tip that an unidentified man killed in a hit-and-run accident in Alabama in 1981 might have been Brad Bishop. Authorities exhumed the man's body and performed DNA testing. Although Bishop's face appears quite similar to the face of the unidentified man, the body was confirmed not to be Bishop.
      Sadly, Roy Harrell passed away in 2017 without ever seeing Bishop apprehended. Although Brad Bishop has fallen off the FBI's Ten Most Wanted List, his status is still listed as "wanted" and the FBI continues to be in pursuit of any information that he has died or can be caught.

    In 1996, a new witness came forward claiming to have heard one of the people whom Aaron and Russell had gotten into an argument with at the park confess to killing Russell and running him over with a car. Other witnesses also came forward, claiming that one of the suspects had boasted about killing him. Some of the witnesses claimed that the suspects had threatened them into silence. However, despite the new witnesses coming forward, the police continue to insist it was a hit-and-run accident. Prosecutors have declined to charge anyone in this case.
    Sadly, both of Russell's parents are now deceased. His father died in 1998, and his mother passed away in 2011. His sister Diana is still hoping to find out what really happened to him.

    I much prefer the series hosted by Robert Stack. What a legend he is with that voice and his screen presence. Irreplaceable. I keep reading that people find the music scary or spooky but I think it is hauntingly beautiful and if you look at how Robert often appears in a trench coat in a misty wood or under a streetlamp by an old building it kind of reminds you of the very stylised detective series and films, like Dick Tracy. I'm so glad that these were uploaded for us to see and enjoy again!!!

      It impacts me as a childhood memory of being spooky because that's how kids can be, and this stuff was creepy and scary in new ways that I had never seen before. Now that I am 31 I see and hear what you do, its not as creepy as when I was a kid but it still has a way about it that makes it haunting and fits the mood perfect, as does Mr. Stack, who was perfect in this. Besides the point this episode features a case from my city, Spokane, Washington, so re-watching these can even yield learning about local cases that have been forgotten because I have never heard of this case except maybe when I was a kid and I don't remember of course if I did then. I am also I fan of Noir type movies which is what this style reminds me of when you mention Dick Tracy.

    Wow the Russell Evans case is A good example of clear cut police piggery. The witness clearly pointed out A suspicious person to them and instead of pursuing A fleeing suspect from the scene of A hit and run / possible beating they just tell her to get on the sidewalk? And then they have A lousy follow up with said "Brian" and deem it to be nothing? Just face it, you people fucked up and now are covering your worthless asses because your ego can't take A punch. Much condolences to the family :( RIP Russell Evans 1989

    Wanted.

    In Russel’s case, I believe the fight theory at the scene before someone hit him with a car. They really hated him. The confusing part is the earlier confrontation seemed to be with the other boy. Not Russel. And I think this Brian was there later, where Russel died, and perhaps in some aid of Russel, but may have fled during the fight and left Russel alone who was outnumbered. The shame of that is probably preventing a closure. How did he know to call the hospital? He knows what happened but is scared of the people who killed Russel or the police who might try to implicate him without other suspects. With the parents now deceased, and the cops wanting to dump it, it’s over. Nothing to keep the case going. In the years since closing the case, they have probably lost all the files and evidence.

    What most people don't realise about these shows made back in the day:
    They were all filmed with actual 35mm film cameras. Later they transfer them to 1" VHS. So my point is that somewhere there's film quality 33mm prints of all these shows, like UM. Imagine having a HD channel that only would play old 80's TV shows in the restored prints, 16:9 ratio.
    In the early days of DirectTV's HD lineup, there was an HD channel that had limited episodes of shows like Knight Rider. It was so bizzare to watch a show that you watched on a 13-19" shitbox TV, now on your HD 130" projector(that's what I had back in 2005). Now I got me my 70" 4K LG, and I ain't ever going back.
    There should be a campaign started to release all these old shows.
    Another thing, when they filmed them, they sometimes used 16:9 lenses, but used blocks on the video assist to block out the 4:3 area that was going to be used. So somewhere there's shows that were actually filmed like movies, with the edges not used.

      @@diannagulick6606 Dianna, I just want to say that I am so sorry for your loss and for your family's loss. I am very grateful that you responded here. Sometimes I think we can watch these shows, and I've seen your brother's episode more than once over the years, and it feels almost as if it didn't happen to "real" people, like it is any other TV show. To read your words, and I didn't expect to read something like this here, I am reminded to be sensitive and to appreciate that there are very deep feelings involved in the cases. If something like this had happened to someone I loved, I would be devastated.
      Your point about the timing at night is well taken. I shared this in the comments because I was concerned that it wasn't mentioned. I know that depending on the area where you live and certain parental standards, some kids are out later than others. I was surprised when I watched because I thought I missed something about the age and the time. My biggest concern posting here was that I wanted parents who might have kids that were out at night to register that someone was saying, "hey, this isn't typical behavior." I also observed that it wasn't commented on in the episode.
      At the same time, I really take your point, something like this could happen to any one, and while there are ways to encourage our kids to be safe, it doesn't mean they are immune to tragic experiences.
      Finally, I want to say I hope my post didn't cause you any more pain, and I hope that you find someone who can re-open the case and get closer to answers about what happened. Thank you for your compassionate response here and I wish you and your family well.
