I initially found it weird, but it does make a lot of sense.... the kids move away and you don't see the grandkids as much as you want. Even my Nana does that, she moved back east and gets antsy if I don't text for a few days ^^;
Me too, not to mention my mother, my father, and my older brother who just passed. Ask those questions now people as the ones who can answer them may be gone tomorrow!
@@jeremymitchell5178 The relatives I now have questions for are all gone. Do yourself a favor, and think long and hard about questions you might have that only your mother can answer.
If I had been able to hire her as a grandma for a day - I would have asked her about her skincare routine because her skin is STUNNING. This is a service that can help so many people, whether because they miss their own grandparents or because they never knew their own. Or, they just need some great advice or care from someone older and more experienced. And, with a aging population this affords elders with extra income and interaction that they may not get otherwise. Lovely video!
someone mentioned it in another comment, but this is a great idea for the elderly in japan. mainly because of the high percentages of lonely deaths in elders, this is a great way to keep them active and socialized. i hope this becomes more popular and a lot more people and other cultures can get involved with this idea.
I’ve heard of renting a boyfriend or girlfriend in Japan, but never a grandma. She seems so sweet! I haven’t personally seen my maternal grandma since I was 12 years old, so this was so heartwarming to watch.
Well, i didn’t’ plan on crying today but here we are. This video reminded me so much of my time with my Nanna and the great conversations we had and the advice she gave me as a young man. She was my best friend and I miss her so much.
I lost my grandmother last week and this video reminded of just how amazing she was. She was sweetest grandmother you could ask for.. I miss her cooking, her jokes and her laugh. Thanks for this. Grandmothers can be the biggest difference in our lives ❤
I'm so sorry for your loss! There is one thing I'd like to share and I hope you're okay with this. Please take your time when grieving and keep in mind that there's no time limit!
This is such a nice service. Sadly, not everyone would have access to such a nice and loving grandmother. In my case, my grandmother died when I was very young so I don't really remember my interactions with her. I only remember her from photos. If I were in Japan right now, I would probably rent her service just to experience having a Japanese grandmother - someone who lived a different culture and era from me. On a macro perspective, this would be a great way for young people of Japan to personally know of grandma figure, who they normally may not have access to due to their circumstances. Thank you so much for sharing this day with us Paolo
As someone who only had a grandmother for a short span of years before she passed, I find this video to be incredibly heartwarming and lovely. I think this is a wonderful idea for those who want a kind touch or just a warm soul to be around them for a day. Not to mention, getting to go outside and just enjoy their company, and to learn from them also, sounds like a decent idea for both parties. I loved this video! She was so nice!
You are assuming she's lonely. My elderly mom in her late 70s has a TON of friends she sees regularly. Elderly, widowed women are not necessarily lonely. That's just a stereotype!
I lost my grandma a couple years back so this is making me miss her extra hard! Its so sweet! Getting to spend time being taken care of and remember her sounds like a great way to spend a day
My favorite thing about all your videos is just showing how very different (not better or worse) Japanese culture is and how little I know about it. Thank you for showing these little, intimate glimpses into Japanese life.
My Japanese Ganda made me a bento for school every day and we all helped cook dinner with her. She also cleaned our rooms while we were at school and did laundry. She always had us go for a walk with her in the evening down to the river so we could pick watercrest for her.
What a great idea! A service for older folks to share their experiences with people yearning to learn. Win-win! I'd be interested in seeing another similar episode.
DANG, I am jealous!!! We need a service like this in the US. Since my mom and grandmother passed away this service would go big here I think. I would rent...
Amazing! She is quite the woman, and obviously very well spoken and talented. The family photos made it very wholesome and could see that they were a close-knit family, all smiling and having a great time.
This would be a really lovely community program. A way to help lonelier older people and to bring tradition and history to the younger generation. We must take care of our elders, they did sacrifice so much for us.
Pretty wholesome, but also very sad. Really speaks to the state of the Japanese society that a market exists for rental grandmas and other family members.
This is a really nice and heartwarming video, I would love to have this in the USA. I really miss my own grandma, it’s nice to see that there are good people out there trying to offer their services and make people happy with their knowledge and wisdom.
I never got to know my grandmothers or spent time with them intimately (one passed away in her forties and the second from illness before we got to reunite). I think this is sweet. She wants to share and have the company and Paolo gets that too. Reminds me of one Christmas like 40 years ago when we adopted a Grandpa for the evening. He was a resident at a retirement home without local family. He got a proper family Christmas dinner etc. I was a teen and my grandma lived with us and I remember dreaming they’d hit it off. Not to be, but it was a nice gift my parents gave to the random lonely old man. 😊
