- They say Anatoly Karpov is one of the greatest positional experts who ever played chess. One of Karpov's specialties was playing the opposite coloured bishop endgames well. Karpov would play it so well that his opponents just wouldn't understand when they are getting outplayed. Check out this game where you will see Nihal Sarin doing exactly the same to one of the most talented youngsters out there Bogan Daniel Deac (2698). This happened in their first rapid game at the FIDE World Cup 2023.

I know it. I said it on chat before at previous world cup, when nihal forces the long game against that old guy. Position almost dead draw, but there still tiny positional advantage white has. Nihal squeeze the poor guy and managed to win it in time scramble. At that point I know Nihal could be better than other indian prodigy, in terms of positional play. Every world champiom has world class positional play, and nihal might be the guy

Congrats to Nihal. But Deac îs just not good in rapid and blitz, he îs much better in classical. I am Romanian I know what I say. But congrats Nihal a win îs a win even If it's in rapid.🙏👏

Anybody can lose if their shirt is being deliberately untucked after every move so that they have to walk away and tuck it in repeatedly ! So annoying :D
