Enjoyed hearing both of your thoughts on M: Son of the Century! I completely agree regarding the effectiveness of Scurati's tone in that book - it's nuanced, as you said, but has a clear stance. I'm hoping the next couple are translated soon.
Middlesex was the book that first turned me on to litfic, rather than specfic. It would be my answer years later if someone asked me my favorite book of all time. I then read Virgin Suicides, which I also loved. Unfortunately I haven’t liked Eugenides’ other books even half as much, but I’ll still always consider him a favorite author.
@@SpringboardThought They’re still well written (of course), I wouldn’t say not to read them, I actually really liked The Marriage Plot. They just didn’t have that mesmerizing, all-consuming quality for me that these two had.
I found that Scurati's style shifted. At times he was sympathetic to the Fascists and at times to the Socialists. I also thought that he wanted to make sure that people knew the story of Fiume, plus a lot more. I can This is an amazing book.
@@SpringboardThought I read it as an audio/print combo. There are some really long sentences that are easily comprehensible in audio (for me), and require more focus when reading on the page (again, for me). I mostly used the print edition to flag passages of note for later discussion, because I read it for a book club. I think the audio narration was by Anna Fields.
These all sound so amazing!!
The Magicians in particular sounds right up my alley!!
I’ll be curious how you find The Magicians! I know Shelly liked the first one the least of the trilogy.

Me too!!!!!
Yes I hope it’s selling well enough for them to do so! You’d think they’d secure a deal for all of them but you never know.
Middlesex remains one of my favourite reads this year. The Magicians sounds interesting. 😊💙
It was so good!
Just ordered Middlesex. Thanks for enabling me! :)
I hope you like it toooo!
The legs/dregs bit is very entertaining!
Haha thank you! Iiiii thought so as well!

I didn’t mind the way Zoom decided to record. I laugh so much! 🫣 I suppose that’s a good thing. 😊
Yeah!! I think so! It’s weird it changed it to this kind of recording thooough. Hmm
