Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I've been quilting for about a year since my retirement. I have tried FMQ a few times with no luck, what a mess. My long-arm quilter said I was doing a great job with my quilts, but she said FMQ is a lot harder than most of the videos show. I came across this video and I'm sooo happy I did! You explain everything in detail and take your to show the steps. I'll be getting my Pounce and stencils from you.
Thank you so much for this detailed tutorial. I am new to quilting and want to do my own quilting after piecing so I can say to myself an entire quilt is my own work. I am definitely going to order the supplies from you to be able to go beyond straight line quilting. I have tried free motion and it was a disaster on my practice sandwiches! Thank you for showing how to use the stencils!!
Try something bigger like a baby quilt. It is easier than small size. Baste with big stitches and get rid of pins. Check it is good on back and then go for it.
I'm so glad I found this! I have four quilts ready for this stage and have been completely stumped as to how to create a design I might actually be able to sew! I'm heading over to your shop to check out the stencils, so I can practice and maybe finish a few quilts before Christmas! Thank you so much for sharing this!
I just ordered 3 of your stencils one was the one you used 👍🏼 can’t wait to get it .. I was surprised it didn’t give me a delivery date I hope it’s going to be soon I have Christmas gifts 🎁 that I want to start working on them 👍🏼
Leslie Harrington not at all! That is why you have extra space around the top. That way you can easily quilt right off the side and then come back on again when doing an all over design like this one.
What color chalk are you using? The best option would be to change the chalk color to either pink or blue. Both can be found here: shop.quiltaddictsanonymous.com/product-category/notions/free-motion-quilting/?orderby=popularity
Is a quilting mat useful or needed, I didn't see you using one so was curious as to whether they were or if it was a personal preference. Your tutorials are really helpful, I just finished a quilt for my daughter and I would really like to quilt it myself so have been avidly watching your FMQ tutorials and they have really inspired me.
That sounds amazing! I would definitely practice on some scraps first to get the hang of the stitch before you do it on the real deal. I know some quilters swear by mats to help everything slide, but I've never used one.
This is just a sample piece, but since this in an all over design, you would quilt it edge to edge down the center of the quilt and work your way out if you are on a home sewing machine.
Please pin, baste or otherwise secure your sandwich layers. It will reduce the bunching you are having to constantly fight. Otherwise, good demo. Your instructions have inspired me to use these tools.
Thank you so much! I am a beginning quilter, and want to try stencils, but wasn't sure how to start. This is SO helpful!
OMG 🤩 thank you for this video!!! It’s literally 4:30 🕟 in the morning and I’m about to try this method. Great job 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
A trick: you can watch movies on Flixzone. I've been using them for watching loads of movies lately.
@Royal Hamza yea, been using flixzone} for years myself :)
You're an excellent teacher! And I love the piece of furniture behind you :) Thanks for explaining the stencils and the Pounce Pad.
Thanks so much! 😊 Glad you found it helpful.

Brilliant!!!
Thank you for the tutorial. I can do this! You explain things very well!
You’re welcome! I am glad you found it helpful.
A light spray with cheap hair spray keeps your chalk line in place. Love your video
Thank you for making it so easy to follow along. Love your videos
Great video and super instructions... thank you x
Oh great! Now I have to follow the links and shop 😆
Lol, we appreciate it when you buy from us when you want to give a project a try!
Thank you for this great tutorial! I purchased this stencil and have never used it. Guess what I have my quilt top read, but going to practice first.
It is always a good idea to practice on a few fat quarters first

We ship USPS typically within one business day of placing your order as long as everything is in stock. You’ll get an email when it ships.
I was surprised at how quickly my stencils arrived! Great response time.
Great video. I have been trying to do free hand quilting and I am just not that comfortable. I think this is a good way to get started. Thanks!
It is a great way to get started! Good luck.
Do you have any suggestions for using the BSR with this type of design?
I am having a hard time using the powder in pounce. I tried all colors but they are still hard to see to quilt.
Great video. You are a great instructor. I am going to try this. Your speed is not intimidating to me. Thank you.
You can do it! All the supplies are linked in the video description. We have everything you need to get started!
I'm so grateful I found your channel. When you are using stencils on a regular sized quilt, do you still start in the middle?
It's very much a personal choice. You can do whatever works for you.
Great tutorial! I would like to know what you do when the stencil pattern runs off the side?
Just quilt to the edge and pick of the line again. You won’t see you jogging around because that happens off of the quilt.
Quilt Addicts Anonymous I have only FMQed 4 quilts and wasn’t sure if there were “rules” about keeping the quilting inside the binding area.
Leslie Harrington not at all! That is why you have extra space around the top. That way you can easily quilt right off the side and then come back on again when doing an all over design like this one.
I assume that you are using spray baste. Do any of you have a favorite brand? Have any of you made a homemade version that you like?
I actually don't prefer spray basting at all.
Is there anyway to use one of the stencils that you have without pounce powder?
No, they can be used with other stencils, but you need to pounce pad to mark this kind of stencil.
Thank you! The problem I'm having is finding the chalk line when colors differ across my quilt. Any solutions?
What color chalk are you using? The best option would be to change the chalk color to either pink or blue. Both can be found here: shop.quiltaddictsanonymous.com/product-category/notions/free-motion-quilting/?orderby=popularity

What is the name of that blue paper?
It is from Full Line Stencil. It is similar to what is used for screen printing.
I have the exact same stencil but mine does not have registration marks. Ugghhh!
Add a registration mark with a small kitchen knife on a cutting board. Be careful.
Seams easy enough.
None of your links work...:o(

For big projects I baste, but for the little ones I usually skip it. I am glad you want to give the stencils a try.
