One interesting theory I recently found is that regarding Godwin's fishtail thingy.
The malformed dragon armour helmet ornament seems to depict a dragon with a tail similar to what Godwin has. The ornament also has what seems like long flowing hair.
Considering that Godwin has befriended dragons it seems like that ornament might be a depicting his power or form. Which would makes sense for the basiliscs being his children

The things you find with freecam :')
Someone commented on my video that the tail seems like basilisks therefore they must have been used in his creation (Part of the ingredients in the melding pot of aspects that is Godwyn the malformed dragon, held together by Marika's godly GOLD flesh (As opposed to the failed silver predecessors) as its base [which now that I think about it is creepily similar to the jarring process) - Which made me think which came first, basilisk or godwyn? Chicken or Egg? 😂
Since I am pretty certain lampreys are involved, maybe the aspects they imparted mixed with Godwyn's..... state... gave rise to the little reptilian deathbreath creepers :P

The golden epitaph sword has this to say: A sword made to commemorate the death of Godwyn the Golden, first of the demigods to die. Infused with the humble prayer of a young boy; "O brother, lord brother, please die a true death."
It is found in Auriza's hero grave, full of Skeletal Militiamen, militiamen who live in Death, the fate of those who come in contact with Deathroot, and the Basilisks.
So it would be prudent to assume that Godwyn is the souless demigod that is the intended recipient of the Eclipse Ritual.

    • @darkhobo
      @darkhobo 28 дней назад

      Yes. Unambiguously.
(Also one of the only weapons that deals extra Damage to Those Who Live in Death)
Auriza means "Golden" In Latin. It's literally "the Golden Heros Grave" it's Godwyns Tomb.
It even has a side entrance, the only tomb with one... Godwyn has a Deathbed Companion, the only person with one. (But this is more Nox Mirror Helm territory)

    • @darkhobo

@@BBoy4040Godwyn was killed by the Black Knife assassins. That's confirmed over and over again. That's not up for debate. (Thought who gave the order is very much up for debate, but it's not the conversation we're having)
Though if you pay attention, the painting we see with the assassins carving the Cursemark on his back ... Godwyn is in EXACTLY the same position currently in Deeproot Depths. His arms are out at 90° angles like he's being held up. His head is down. Its an exact 1 for 1.
IMO this indicates that the Assassination happened IN DEEPROOT DEPTHS. I don't think Godwyn moved. I think he was already there when he died.
The Golden Epitaph is Miquella praying that the infection doesn't spread and that Godwyn simply dies. That's why it does extra damage to Those who live in Death. They don't want Godwyn to be taken over by what closely resembles Cordyceps fungus (that's the real life zombie fungus that The Last of Us used too, it's a real thing that turns insects into zombies)
And we know Deathblight existed BEFORE Godwyn died because there's Deathblight in Faram Azula. Which isn't connected to the mainland and therefore it can't spread through Erdtree roots.
In fact that indicates to me that something Dragons are doing is causing Deathblight to happen... And it just so happens that our boy Godwyn is Extremely close with at least one Dragon and is a member of the Dragon Communion church.
Therefore I surmise that it's actually Dragon Communion or another such Dragon ritual (IMO it's deathbed companionship) that causes the Deathblight to happen. And THAT caused someone (Marika) to try to Assassinate Godwyn.
      Anyway that's my Tedtalk
Fia is Fortissax. Have a good one homie.

(Before the comments, Fortissax's sex is deliberately obfuscated… which should be a 🚩that something is off.)
    Check it out.
So Godwyn is one of the Trio that creates the Dragon Communion Church. Godwyn, Lancennax, and Fortissax (and possibly Vyke too but theres no evidence he was a FOUNDER like the others were)
Vykes Dragonbolt and Golden Dragonbolt incantations indicate the spells work because the love between the Dragon and the Caster. Right?
And we know Vyke and Lancennax were a couple.
And we know there was one other couple, because the GOLDEN dragonbolt spell exists.
Any guesses on who might fit that description? Do we have a GOLDEN associated individual who may be friends with a gender non-specific Draconic being?
Yeah Godwyn and Fortissax fit the bill perfectly.
And the idea that the Royal line would pass to the hated enemy the Dragons... Might just be enough motivation to see someone stabbed in the back...

Due to the fact that we can find them in the things betwix (a area believed to be between dimensions - outside space and time), near arch trees/spawned from godwyn whose attached to ER arch tree the erdtree, as well as their immunity to scarlet rot & being researched with dragons by aldia - it could be argued that they are a inter-dimensional invasive species. Similar to patches and the moonlight greatsword.
With basilisk’s (as well as potentially both patches and the moonlight great sword) being originally from a dimension we as of yet haven’t explored. Which is why they seemingly don’t have to abide by the same rules most things in the game we find them in have to. (That’s potentially the case for both kings field and shadow tower where og patches is found before Miyazaki made the man we now know) I certainly don’t want to go to the basilisk’s home world that’s for sure lol.

It's been pretty much confirmed that the basilisks in DS1 were created by Seath the Scaleless after he stole some magic from Nito creating magical death. Crystal is the ultimate form of Soul Sorcery which Seath has mastered. When you die of Curse you are crystalized and captured, usually by his snake men. He didn't want them to have physical damaging attacks so they couldn't break you by mistake. We see this in action at Seath's archives, he shoots curse crystal breath at you till you either die or crystalize then they drag you to the prison cells.

16:42 Ranni set up the black knife assassins and set them on Godwyn specifically to kill his soul so she could divest of her body. That much is practically spelled out in her quest line. What isn't is it was likely that the reason the assassins and Ranni are on bad terms is because playing pawn to her wasn't what they wanted. They only half killed the demi-god, where as the plan for them was to fully kill him, but they were given bad info by Ranni on the rune.
From my perspective the most deserving beings of True Death are Ranni and Godwyn. Ranni for justice and Godwyn as a mercy. Its a shame that, as much freedom as you're given in the game, such a route is one you are out right denied.

I think maybe Basilisks aren't affected by Scarlet Rot because Death is more like a primordial force, rather than the influence of an Outer God? Like Death kills the pestilence of Scarlet Rot.
But I think Godwyn is a strange case, because he isn't dead in body but seemingly an overflowing abundance of infectious life. Life without purpose, life without control, mutating and growing and spreading, even resurrecting skeletons and other creatures. The power of a Demigod without any thought or soul behind it, not even able to move or speak, just some kind of natural primordial instinct. Exactly like the Scarlet Rot.

One theory ive heard as to why the player is crystalized when they are killed by basilisk's breath is the basilisk's are distant descendants of the ancient dragons.
The ancient dragons existed before disparity, in a world of grey rock and fog, neither dead or alive. The breath of the basilisk seems almost to remove disparity, returning our flesh to the form the world began in before the first flame.

The basilisks being unaffected by the rot is incredibly interesting. It's not because they are mineral life, like the dragons, because crystalians can be overtaken by the rot. Are the undead affected by rot? do the rot zombies even count as undead? they were not resurrected by deathroot, like the skeletons were, they just never died. Are the Basilisks innately undead? So many questions...

    • @TheHonoredMadman

Thats what i found super intriguing as well, because as you said, even fucking crystallians are affected by it, and the rot zombies are created by the rot and marikas binding of the root of death, the blood zombies are similarly not ressurected by deathroot, theres also those zombies in the shaded keep and the ones on the weeping coast that also seem like theyre just heavily deteriated people that are unable to die due to the rune of death being bound. But like you said i think we can count on one hand the enemy types that are unaffected by scarlet rot(besides spirits)

Something I find interesting about the basilisk's "curse" effect is that it feels like they reset their victims to a primordial state
    To explain that
The world of dark souls started out as a world of stone (crag trees and dragons included) so their curse turn you into a stone of sort (crystal)
While the ones in lands between turn you into a tree since most lifeforms in elden ring are derived from the great crucible/Erdtree

I'm 5 min in and I felt it was worth mentioning an interesting interaction in Dark souls 1. Apparently the power within spell depletes your health based on a percentage. So if you are heavily cursed it's easy to counter the dps with regen. I think that the red teardrop ring also activates based on the curse's effect if your current max hp is low enough.
I only mention this because it seems like an intentional interaction, possibly linking chaos with the curse.

I also dont believe Bloodborne is tied to Dark souls. Or Sekiro to Dark souls or bloodebourne. The only thing that ties them together is the company that made the games and they can and often do share assets. But as far as the lore and world setting. 100 percent completely different things.
It's kind of like when people try to tie the fallout world to elder scrolls simply because they have a few references to each other or share assets or are made by the same company. That's just silly and frankly kind of dumb.
Starcraft, Diablo, Overwatch and Warcraft arent in the same universe just because they are made by the same company and sometimes share assets or ideas.

Also I always figured Fortisax became corrupted by Deathblight thus turning into a Lichdragon either as a result of the Eclipse ritual not accounting for an ancient dragon being inside him OR the dragons seeming to have the ability to adapt to their environment either by eating a certain element or being around it like Smarag with glintstone or Borealis with ice.
I love your "crackpot" theories, I think we become to sterile with our thoughts on games and we need some crazy stories, I thought about making a vid like this on Basilisks and how they're associated with filth and disease similar to roaches and rats and it may have been a missed opportunity to have some placed in the Black Gulch.

(Your outro is my intro before starting your videos so sorry for the my mad ramblings below lol)
I think the basilisks are pretty much like the Kindred of Rot spawning from places where there is sufficient build up their element. In the Land of Shadow we encounter Basilisks in two places. One is a Catacomb that ends in a Death Knight battle, which of course has the not-Godwyn Godwyn corpse at the end. I didn't really expect to see any signs of Deathblight in the Land of Shadows because the timeline kinda adds up that Godwyn was still Golden around the time the land was cut off. How did his Death Knights even get there? The other place is Rauh, spawned by a hidden Dancing Lion. The Divine Beast barfing Basilisk justify them having some presence in the Land of Shadow. I feel like this implies Deathblight was a Divine Element at one point that now is twisted not unlike what happened with the Scarlet Rot.
If that last point is true, combined with some other descriptions I think the Crusade was the point things became totally F'd for the Erdtree Order. Messmer's flame corrupted divine forces as he destroyed the Land of Shadow creating the threat of Outer Gods. Reading all Romina related items paints a picture: Romina, after the Church of the Bud was burned (flower worshippers?(Miranda Flower connection? Remember the cut flower crucible?)) Romina found a twisted divine element she weaved into the Scarlet Rot. This indicates Romina created the Scarlet Rot in the hopes of preserving the sacred buds (Flower worshipper).Romina's weapon art was once considered a sacred act of purification, this implies before Messmer the Bud was a cleansing force. (Is this what happened to the Red element that was once part of the Crucible and Gold that is mentioned in Crucible Knight armor?)
Keeping it going: The Outer God Heirloom summarizes Messmer burned a whole clans way of life down and in the shadow of his destruction they found a twisted Deity when they looked to their Tutelary (we know Messmer destroyed these as he pass through) Near the Prospect Village, where we find the Heirloom, we can find the Tutelary in the remains of burned down shack. If I was a betting man I think the inherent darkness within Messmer and his flame corrupted these two previously benevolent/benign forces in an attempt to destroy them and turned them into the Scarlet Rot and Formless Mother respectively.
Did the Crusade spawn 4 out 5 of Leyndells future woes: The Omen Curse (Grandam seems to imply this), rise of Scarlet Rot, rise of the Formless Mother (not directly a woe but when another god shows up in a monotheistic system trouble follows), the corruption of Deathblight. Nanaya and Midra are to blame for Frenzy showing up so Messmer get's a pass there.

I’m a big fan of cryptids so I absolutely adored this video! In fantasy lore Basilisks are commonly associated with water snakes/lizards as well as water dragons (GRRM even gives them a Lovecraftian twang in GoT with the Basilisk Isles,) so I was pleasantly surprised by their addition to the DLC. It made the omnipresent theme about the dangers of stagnancy much more visceral to me if I’m making any sense 😅

An interesting fact about basilisks in Elden Ring is that they become non hostile in the presence of a beast repellent torch. Their false eyes quiver, and they jump away frightened from the flame. Maybe the false eyes are filled with a gas to make them appear as eyes?

Also I am sorry but Arthur is literally the reason I cant play Red Dead 2. His voice is the most annoying noise ive ever heard in my life...
I would genuinely have preferred Gilbert Godfrey over that shit kicker they got from the Justified tv show...
His real voice is so much better but instead he chose to use this fake accent he uses in like 99% of his tv performances and its just gross and so try hard I hate it! Lol

Regarding the basilisks of Dark souls 2, I completely refuse to believe that their design follows the same world building principles and rules that miyazaki put in place for the Dark souls series, the whole of the monsters of Dark souls 2 have this arcade like and weird design pattern that matches more with what you would expect out of an average bandai namco title than it is related to Dark souls, I think it really shows that this is the one game that Miyazaki wasn't personally involved in.

I think Hawkshaw, Smoughtown, and Honored Madman are a cut above him in that regard, no offene to him, though.

I think the reason Basilisks don't do physical damage in the games is tied to their design. they have big false eyes, which in nature are for intimidation. They are all bark and no bite. As for a lore reason why they can in Dark Souls 2, it is because DS2 rarely gets anything right.

I believe Fortissax might not have been trying to 'Cure' godwyn necesarily.
I believe Fortissax might have just entered godwyns dreams to try to slow down his body from mutating into a montrosity to give Godwyn some dignity in his curent state.
Obviosly he failed however since godwyn is now a monstrosity and Fortissax himself isint looking too good. Seemingly having black Coral bursting out from his body and his once grey skin is now Black.
Also nice catch on Basilisks and Godwyns eyes having an Eclipse in them.
Also one reason why most likely Castle Sol was suposed to resurect Godwyn specificly is the Eclipse Shotel that we find in the little Church area inside Castle Sol. It makes a Cloud of death blight and covers the shotel in Death Blight aswell. Its also a legendary arnament so you cant even say its just a random weapon they put there. Deathblight specificly is related to Godwyn and no other character. So it whould be wierd to find this deathblight related legendary weapon in a place ment to resurect a gods soul... to not be linked to Godwyn the Father of deathblight.
Also also also Godwyns body is atleast somewhat concious. If we attack Fia, Godwyn will actually Attack us by sending Death Rancor skulls towards us. And Fia even comments on Godwyn being the one doing it and not her.

I heard in another lore related video about the curse of bayle. Who ever kills bayle and consumes his heart is bound to turn into him after eons. So maybe this curse brought the and of the lands between an everything with it. The new Eldenlord turning into a dragon, burning the world and only the ancient stone dragons or their descendents left for a time. Until the flame or Bayles remains turn up again, being interwoven with humanity or the pygmy. A Flame that can't be extinguished. Maybe the first flame is also a part of this fire, but another element of Bayle. Maybe his soul was split or it took all things that it burned into itself. Meaning death, grace, magic and what not. Maybe the flame even merged with the frenzied flame. While the frenzied flame is more flued by pity, bayles Flame is fueld by hate and revenge. But their goals are the same. At least at first. So they fight after burning the world. Bayle lets Things come into existence to crush them again. But the Frenzied flame tries to put them out of their misery in vain. So it is still a cycle. That's hoe I would explain it, but Idk
