I cannot begin to explain how much you have helped me, if it weren't for u, i wouldnt have a clue as to how to upload a movie studio platinum video, thank you so much, keep up the amazing work! Thank you once again
Thanks for the part at 2:15. I was wondering how to change FPS project after editing clips. I thought I had to start over from scratch. You are a life saver!
I used the 50% link and moved up from Platinum 11 to Platinum 13 Suite, thank you for the link and another good video. Like Photoshop, there is so much in the program I will never use, but the bits and pieces I do, are well worth it.
Hi Derek, as a newcomer to video editing, I have found your videos on Sony platinum 13 very useful. Thank you. You have a knack of getting to the important parts.
Your latest 60p video will be put to good use for my next video, which I'll record and render in 1080p60, By the way, can you recommend a decent graphics card for sony movie studio, I'm currently using a nVidia Quadro K620, and it's rubbish at the transition/effects preview etc
***** Thanks! I'll look into it. With Radeon R7 4Gb will this get rid of the stutter lag of transition effects in preview window, and will it speed up rendering ?
+Movie Studio Zen Thanks once again. I gave your method a try, and yes any transitions applied to a proxied video do run smoothly in draft preview, although my video media clips are up to 15 mins, so it wouldn't be worth it. I have however ordered a radion r7 4gb and a new psu. TY.
Thank you for all your videos- I needed this one especially! I rendered a video twice (took 5 hours each time) and couldn't figure out why it was horrible both times! Got it now!
Thanks for sharing! I have not used this software since version 6. haha it was helpful to get a good refresher and technology has been updated since then. :)
Excellent tutorial thanks. Without these tutorials I'd be lost half the time in Movie Studio as the tutorials that come with it are next to useless. I just hope my videos look better now with a higher frame rate.
+Movie Studio Zen Yep, all my footage is 50p. If you'd not mentioned it in this video I'd never have realised I could enter a frame rate in that drop down box in the render settings. I wonder why they don't have 50 and 60 frames as selection options.
Would you see a noticeable difference in video quality if, after selecting "Yes" for matching the project settings, you kept the rest as default and just rendered at 1080? BTW, great video as always Derek, cheers :)
***** Yeah but after you used the match media function you still changed a few things such as the frame rate etc... the auto function didn't match everything perfectly so the extra adjustments you made ie 60 fps would that have improved the quality substantially more than the default auto match media settings or slightly? Cheers :)
Thank you very much! I couldn't find any other videos on how to do this, only vegas tutorials and those didn't work. I'm not sure why this didn't come up when I searched the first time considering this is the only place with helpful tutorials for Movie Studio. By any chance, would you consider a tutorial on which effect can be used for what purpose, like showcasing each effect? There's a lot and I can't really experiment with them all to see what they do if I'm unaware of their purpose, or the right settings.
Great vid as always! What size monitor would you recommend having for video editing? I need an upgrade because on my current one, everything is squished (it's an 18.5 inch).
hi Derek, ok I converted files to avi first and did the grading in gopro studio before importing to Ms. That worked much better thanks. 2 things I noticed. 50 fps needs a much higher bit rate in the render. The other thing is it seems to take about 24 hours before the video on you tube gets to a good resolution!
There are certainly some disadvantages to dumping Adobe Premiere Pro for movie studio 13, though I didn't anticipate having no audio on exported mp4's as one of them. Thank you for the fix. I should mention there are aspects of movie studio I like better than prem pro.
Great info! I have Sony Movie Studio Platinum 14. In the menu, open new project, why you ignore those setting like PAL, video setting and frame rates? Why there no selection for 1080 50p setting there?
Hi Derek, firstly thanks for your tutorials I have learned a lot from you. I mainly shoot windsurfing videos at 1080 50 fps using a Gopro Hero 3 Black. The most difficult thing for the camera to deal with in terms of definition is the water...especially seen at speed. I use MS 12 Platinum. My normal workflow is direct import to MS, project set at 25fps.....render Mainconcept at 25fps using a fairly high cbr to hard drive. I have been pleased with the results. I saw this tutorial and thought maybe I am missing out by not rendering at 50fps. I followed your process, albeit it is a little different in MS12. Project at 50fps/render mainconcept at 50fps. My problem is......the resolution when played off my hard drive is nowhere near as good as my previous workflow! Specifically the water is fuzzy with a large scale pixelation effect. Any idea what I may be doing wrong? ( ps my Videoplayer is VLC). ThanksMike
+mikerbwind Derek.....ignore my question above! I re examined the project and found clips on the timeline were already looking blurred....not sure why but I deleted them and pulled them down again from the project media page. The render is now good although I am not sure I see much difference compared to my previous workflow! Render time is inevitably longer though.....twice as long .... 4mins per min of video. I can only think the grading I did on the video line was responsible for messing things up because otherwise everything is the same as I tried first off.
That used to be my workflow until I upgraded my PC and also changed to the 64bit version of MS. I have no problem now with preview/editing with the footage imported direct but I will try that workflow next and see if it is better. Thanks for the idea Derek.
4:35 - on RUclips Help it's written: Recommended audio bitrates for uploads: 384 kbps for Stereo | 128 kbps for Mono Does it mean that it's better to save MP4/AAC video, choosing 384 kbps for Audio (instead of 320 kbps)? For those, who would like to read more about this, you should google: "Recommended upload encoding settings"
384 kbps is the maximum bit rate recommended by RUclips. Most videos actually use 192 kbps, which is more than enough for good sounding audio. If you want to be more precise, you should actually find out what your original video's Audio Bit Rate was recorded in and use the same setting for rendering your final video. Download MediaInfo which will show detailed info about files. mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo Once it is installed, go to File/Open/File and select video. Scroll down to audio section and here is the actual bit rate you should use.
Thank you for reply! So, it means, RUclips can keep audio up to 384 Kbps. That's good, I thought it less. My original audio will be in WAV (16 bit, 44.1 kHz, 1411 Kpbs - i.e. CD-quality). It will be music, not just speech, and it will be recorded separately (USB Audio Recorder in my digital piano Kawai MP7). It records WAV or MP3 audio just on inserted USB flash drive - very simple and convenient. It also allows to adjust Gain Level for recording. I've just tried MediaInfo, but I think for me it will be enough to check properties (bit rate, codec, sample rate etc.) just in my main video player - Media Player Classic - Home Cinema. It shows all main infrormation as well. Or even just to check file properties (right click > Properties > more info).
You should check the settings on your Audio Recorder and see if you can set .WAV to record at 48 kHz instead of 44.1 kHz. That is because VIDEO Audio uses the higher setting of 48 kHz. If you intend to render 44.1 kHz to 48 kHz, it would be better if the original recording was done at 48 kHz.
awesome tutorial, works fine for me ! ive a different problem though, my videos refuse to come out in widescreen Ive got these BlackBars up the sides and I'm struggling to find a ratio to fix it ? is it because the clips I use are different ratio setting ?
Thank you so much! How do i know for a fact that video matches project settings? I don't remember if that message popped up when i was loading a video on it. Can i check it manually? Thanks again. I'll sub to your channel. It's super helpful.
Hi. I know that this is quite an old video now but I am trying to work out best option of UK Tv from 60FPS footage. We don’t have a great deal of choice in the UK with these Action Cams that only offer 30 or 60. So we need to render it for a different frame rate entirely and I’m not sure how to go about this. Another problem is if I mix Action Cam shots at 60 with my camera shots at 50. Have you any ideas how I can get smooth footage on a UK tv? Cheers Ian
Hi Ian Don't worry excessively about different frame rates. Australia is also a PAL country, so we use 25fps and 50fps. However, all modern TVs can play back 24fps, 25fps, 30fps, 50fps and 60fps - just like watching RUclips videos on your computer. It is OK to shoot 60fps or 30fps in a PAL country "outside", however it won't work shooting inside with lights turned ON, because the powerline frequency in UK is different to USA, so it creates a flicker - this is the main problem. Not a good idea to mix 50fps and 60fps - don't do it - the results will be bad. It is OK to shoot at 60fps and slow down to 25fps for smooth slow motion effects - that will work.
Hi. Thanks for your reply. It’s the mixture of footage that can cause problems. Great pity that most action cams work in 30 or 60 since for instance, on occasions while on holiday, I have used an action cam and wanted to place the footage say, from diving, into my main movie which has been shot at 50. Such a pain. Do you know what the difference is if you place 30fps onto the timeline when the project is set in 50 as opposed to when it is set in 60? If set in 50, are the extra 10 frames per second placed after each second (if you see what I mean) so that the clip is a bit slower or does it just clip ten frames off. I can’t work it out from looking at the footage! My guess is that frames are just dropped .... By the way, many thanks for your tutorials. They are excellent and if it hadn’t have been for them, I might well have dropped using Vegas for something worse but quicker to pick up. Now, as a result of your videos, I find Vegas to be great and am much more at home with using it thanks to your tutorials. Once learned, it’s dead easy and way more sophisticated than I first thought.
NEVER place low Frame Rate video into a Project set to HIGHER Frame Rate video. Example = DON'T place 24, 25 or 30 fps into a 50 or 60fps Project When you do this, up to 30x "fake frames" have to be created when you render the final video - this looks terrible. It is OK to do the opposite. Example = 50 or 60fps video placed into a 24, 25 or 30 fps project. Higher frame rate video can be slowed down to create smooth slow motion effects OR extra Frames are simply dropped. Cheers :)
I’ll try that. Makes sense really but just can’t get my head around project rate and frame rate of footage plus rendering frame rate!!! Many many thanks. Regards Ian
I was wondering when you put the Video file on the timeline do you always for every video your working with do you go right click on the video & go into switches & click disable resample at the bottom?
***** Alright, I was also wondering when you are finished rendering your project into the video file to go into the DVD Program if you are done making menus or what ever you are doing are you able to go ahead and delete the video files? So, you can save space on your computer.
***** Ok. After you are finished using the Multicamera Edit feature and if you forgot to click Disable Resample are you still able to to that if you highlight all the clips that are edited with different shots?
***** Do you know what the Width & height is to change the icon picture on Google+ what they recommend for the Little circle. It used to be there but now it's not.
Hey, I've been having problems lately where if I get my memory card and I put it into the computer and nothing comes up for me to import anything that is on there have you ha this problem before on Windows 10?
Thank you for these videos I want to recode voice and guitar into one good usb mic (Rode nt-usb) (guitar not on separate track) Will movie studio suit that project and can I apply reverb? Thanks
To add Audio FX, you really need to use Sound Forge Audio Studio, which comes with Movie Studio Suite 12 or 13. I did make a tutorial about how to add audio effects here: www.moviestudiozen.com/free-tutorials/sound-forge/545-how-to-make-magic-strawberries-sound-forge
***** Thank you Derek. I watched your tutorial and it has helped me a lot. I will be buying the program and using your tutorials to get me started. I am hoping to create a youtube music channel showing people how I play various popular songs; so I want to film myself performing the songs live and be able to apply some reverb etc to the performance section of the video. Can I link any DAW into Movie Studio or must it be Sound Forge?
What type of videos are you making ? If you are rendering gaming videos that contain lots of fast moving action, you need to increase your Bit Rate settings. Fast moving action is very difficult to encode and RUclips re-compresses ALL videos uploaded, which decreases quality. The only other way to get better quality is to use Vegas Pro and Handbrake. Google search "how to render video with Handbrake and Vegas Pro."
Thanks for the reply! Mostly gaming videos, but will also start rendering helmet (1080p 60fps) camera videos soon. I've increased my bitrate quite a bit, and it has improved a lot, but i still find the quality a bit lower than what i'd like. I can still up the bitrate quite a bit, but i guess maybe the settings im using now is the sweetspot between decent quality and not to big filesize. My last 12min video ended up around 2,4gb, and it's 60fps. :)
The video you are watching on this page is made with version 13, NOT version 14. Version 14 is a lot different to version 13. Please watch my beginners guide tutorial for v14. This should answer all your questions. ruclips.net/video/bnSexZT1WHA/видео.html
Son't know if you noticed or did it on purpose or not, but you left the deinterlace active, and I would presume for this video you would want to disable deinterlace. For most peole these days we would not want deinterlace enabled either.
+Movie Studio Zen Do you thonk this means that if I have a video that is interlaced but there is no interlace flag in the bitstream, then vegas will not deinterlace this video? I have in the past plenty of times worked with video files using or huffyuv(lossless) and has no interlace flag in its codec or container. If this is the case I agree it is not a big issue and most formats people use today would have it in the bitstream, but I would be upset if my interlaced video were NOT deinterlaced because Vegas did not recognize it as such. (I used to capture video from NTSC all interlaced s I have quite a bit of experience managing interlaced video) and even mixing both types of cindeo into same project while only deinterlacing when necessary - in my PRE-Vegas days.
Can you please do a tutorial video on how to download this on windows 10? I purchased it for download on Amazon i have it in my downloads folder, but when i go to download it it says that it is incompatible.
Which exact program and version did you buy as a download from Amazon ? When did you buy this ? Movie Studio Platinum 13 has not been available as a download from Amazon, ever since Magix bought Vegas from Sony, so I am wondering how you actually did this ? All versions of Movie Studio are compatible with Windows 10. The only thing that may cause a problem is if you downloaded the wrong version for your computer. There are two identical versions of Movie Studio - a 32 bit and 64 bit version. If you have a 64 bit computer, you need to install the 64 bit version. If you only have a 32 bit computer, you need to install the 32 bit version. 32 bit version will not work on a 64 bit computer. I can tell you more, once I get answers to the questions I asked.
Movie Studio Zen I bought Sony Movie Studio Platinum 13 yesterday late in the afternoon. I believe it said that it would automatically download the 32 or 64 bit depending on which one the computer is and I'm also pretty sure that Magix was the seller.
Do you know what the problem was? I'm interested to know, because I get asked a lot of common questions and if someone else has the same problem, it would be great to know the answer. Thanks :) Also, which country do you live in ? The reason I ask, is because Amazon in my country shows that Movie Studio is not for sale as a download.
I cannot begin to explain how much you have helped me, if it weren't for u, i wouldnt have a clue as to how to upload a movie studio platinum video, thank you so much, keep up the amazing work! Thank you once again

4:35 - on RUclips Help it's written:
Recommended audio bitrates for uploads: 384 kbps for Stereo | 128 kbps for Mono
Does it mean that it's better to save MP4/AAC video, choosing 384 kbps for Audio (instead of 320 kbps)?
For those, who would like to read more about this, you should google:
"Recommended upload encoding settings"
384 kbps is the maximum bit rate recommended by RUclips.
Most videos actually use 192 kbps, which is more than enough for good sounding audio.
If you want to be more precise, you should actually find out what your original video's Audio Bit Rate was recorded in and use the same setting for rendering your final video.

Yes, I know… but only 44.1 kHz available for recording. So I just wonder - to upconvert this audio in Movie Studio, or let do this to RUclips…
If your recorder can't be set to 48 kHz, just let Movie Studio rendering change audio.
What if when I go to the "rendering" portion of the video, there's no "customize" option to set the frame rate?
Thank you!
Thank you so much, dear sir!

Yes you should be able to link your DAW as the default audio editor.

Thanks Derek
I signed up for the newsletter and downloaded the shortcuts pdf - very useful
Thank you
Ok, so i did exactly what you did in this video. It gave me 1080p 60fps, but... The render quality is really low. Any tips regarding output quality?
I have Sony MSP 14, why I cant see the simple and advanced mode selection at the top? Is your software different from mine?
The video you are watching on this page is made with version 13, NOT version 14.
Version 14 is a lot different to version 13.
Please watch my beginners guide tutorial for v14. This should answer all your questions.

Also I just checked and it says that i have a 64 bit operating system.
Nevermind I fixed it.
Do you know what the problem was?
I'm interested to know, because I get asked a lot of common questions and if someone else has the same problem, it would be great to know the answer. Thanks :)
Also, which country do you live in ? The reason I ask, is because Amazon in my country shows that Movie Studio is not for sale as a download.
Can you render 2160p 60fps
Yes you can render 4K video with Movie Studio Platinum 13.
thank you
