I think it is a metaphor for how people lose their identity in darkwood. Mirrors symbolize identity since we use them to look at our own reflections. Broken mirrors still show reflections but do so in a distorted way. It's like the human (main character) doesn't even recognize himself anymore because he looks so drastically different than his past self and even comments about his own appearance being "one ugly bastard." But how did the mirror get broken in the first place? The guy in the shed where you can find the mirror probably went mad and vented his frustrations at the mirror, an act of desperation from the fact that the sow was dying and he viewed himself as weak and hopeless because he can't find a way to fix the electrical wirings.
Here's a playlist of Bricky playing through it, if you're curious: ruclips.net/p/PLQefm3-mUKUThCZwmXKcgnEutxxN8uZfX He did a full playthrough AND a review, so if the first episode intrigues, you, maybe "play along with/ahead of him" if you don't want spoilers.

Is the broken mirror a metaphor for depression? Sometimes I think that the whole forest is a one big metaphor for depression. Everything fits so well.
A metaphor for the mind I guess
I feel like it's a lesson to respect what you don't know and a representation of the mind and it's horrors
A metaphor for Poland
