Back in High School the school had Computers in the Library and different Laptop Carts. Teachers would either take a class to the library to use computers or bring a Laptop Car to the Classroom.
I will say in high school that there was some kids who were complaining about how we need to do like PowerPoint presentations on the computer for projects and that some people were hesitated to use the computer to type down documents. Our principal actually walked into the classroom and heard about the complaints and that he’s telling them how lucky we are to have this kind of technology because back in his day when he was a student, they didn’t have computers or the internet. They just had typewriters and books. So I would say his encouragement really did allow the students to get more focus on how to use the computer and it was pretty helpful as we were able to get our work done.
7:25 This accurately reflects my experience with the computer lab in elementary school. (Since it was about an average-sized school, we also had another computer lab that we called the net lab, and it wasn’t used in the same way, but it was still used very often; I think its most common use was for students preparing for benchmark and state-administered exams.) In middle school, we didn’t have a computer lab; instead, every teacher had a cart of laptops issued by the school district that students were free to choose at random in order to complete their assignments. (You can imagine there were a lot of breakages, but that didn’t stop them from being used.) These computer carts were issued to just about every teacher, notably except those who taught special electives (band, for example, didn’t really need work done on the computers very often, but computer science was a special case because they had full-scale Windows computers set up in the classroom.) In high school, they started doing this thing where they issued a laptop to every student, and we were expected to keep up with them as much as possible because they would be used in almost every class.
I remember we did do some computer related stuff before. Sometimes if we were all caught up on assignments we could play some computer games but that was a special occasion. And in my days of going to academy my teacher his name was Mr Richard who i consider a very inspirational teacher and kind of the person who helped me find myself again worked with me on a Windows 7 PC desktop in the computer room to work on my graduation speech using Microsoft PowerPoint. And that speech which was called Look at me like i Matter turned out to be the best and grand finale of school assignments i ever done and was actually used to help my other teacher from my previous school give a good speech to his graduation class so my speech inspired 2 teachers to say a final sendoff to another graduated class from my previous school. Safe to say that computer time was well spent and was the most important time I had during my final months of school
I remember in high school we did had a computer class during my freshman year and there was a bunch kids who somehow knew how to make the computer opening screen upside down and we let the teacher know the computers not working just to get off from schoolwork. This was back when we had the desktop computers with the Dell model. I actually found out how easy it is to make the screen go upside down so there’s no way that that would happen during class today.
I graduated high school in 2018 and we didn’t have a formal computer lab. There was a computer area in the library, but it wasn’t really comparable to a computer lab. I remember once in English class we went to the library as a class to do research for a paper and computers were available for those who wanted to use them
There was a lot of educational games I remember playing on the computer as a kid. One of my favorites was Tux Math. You basically had to solve math problems which were in the form of flames before they hit the penguins igloo’s. It was a great way to learn math. But also help not to slack off considering the whole fire going towards the igloos. That and a game I remember that helped me learn to type a lot better. The game was called type to learn. It was honestly quite fun.
The ending was kind of funny, but you’re right; Mr. Kwest can’t do that. I’m pretty sure all teachers have access to the computer lab, especially when needed.
Cookie aged in a very interesting way I didn’t think about till seeing you watch this episode … save for a few specific things cookies tech is basically just the equivalent of using a smart phone with extra steps. Like honestly if this was made today it would be very easy to imagine cookies tech getting broken and learning to see the world for a day getting replaced by someone’s smart phone being broken and learning to see the world for a day : P kinda funny how that aged.
I propose that we send these videos to the Podcast channel of the actors, Devon, Lindsey and Daniel so they can invite him, I want to see the director in a podcast with them, does anyone support me?
I remember having computer labs back when I was in school. We'd learn the basics and how to use them. We also played games, but only educational ones. They were super fun! All are projects were computer base we had limited internet at the time. Also to recap, Cookie's full name is Simon Nelson Cook and yeah He's a mess without his tech.
Yes, whenever there’s a computer lab room, we always go to use the computer lab as a whole class whenever the teacher said so. We never actually go to the computer lab individually. The only time that I’ve seen kids use the computer individually was the computers at the library within the school. There was never no sign-up sheet. It was all first come first serve and if the computers are full you have to wait until somebody’s finished with their computers so you can use it yourself.
I’ve never been as dependent on technology as Cookie, but that may just be because I’m a bit of an older student. Even so, I graduated in the late 2010s (about fifteen years after the show first aired), so some of this stuff is kind of relatable.
When I was in school there was a list to use computers lab, but that list was to use them just in breaks (like lunch break for example) and the list was there because at that hour of the day, all could use them, so there wasn't enough computers for every grade or everyone, so you signed and you could use it in lunch break to finish a homework or proyect, great reaction!!
When I was in middle school I suggested to my computer lab teacher that we play Rollercoaster Tycoon and be graded on how well we managed finances for our amusement parks. And he actually went for it! So all the students who came after me can thank me for getting to play video games in class 😂
As a kid, I always thought it was Moze who crashed the computer by plugging in the device to the computer but now looking back yes it was the teacher‘s fault for doing that international web chat with other teachers. Hope he learned his lesson not to do that anymore.
In High School and maybe late middle school we had people who had a copy of halo combat evolved on their USB, what made it really interesting is that since the entire school was on the same network it meant if we logged in to a LAN match we'd be playing against people in the same class or other classes who also snuck halo onto the PC's
I was first introduced to the computer lab in the 2nd Grade (2006-2007). My mom didn't get a computer until I was like 12 years old. We mostly just went to my grandmother (who had a computer at the time) or our local library.

It sounds like this computer lab is teaching useful things rather than just typing the same nonsensical sequence of keys until your brain falls out. Did your computer ever ask "Do you want to play a game?" In a creepy robot voice when you were in school?
Adding onto the eating outside. My high school was pretty big, almost a 3rd of an average community college and we ate outside a lot. They let 11th and 12th graders go get lunch outside of school since we were so close to places like Subway and McDonalds

I remember in elementary school for my later years, going to computer class, we would first learn how the computer works. Then at the end, play computer games. Like SimTown, The Oregon Trail, I think the 1985 version and a game, which was my favorite, Reading Mansion. Which despite the name, had nothing to do with reading. It was like a hidden object game, you explore a mansion and find stuff on the list. Middle school was similar, but different types of games. We were allowed to go on school-appropriate websites and play games online. There was one game the whole class would play together. I really wish I remember the name because it was fun playing. You could play online or with the computer itself. I would play that game at home sometimes. I never stayed in the same school. One elementary school was from kindergarten to the first half of second grade, I moved and went to another elementary school the second half of second grade to fifth grade. One middle school was sixth and seventh grade, moved and that middle school was just eighth grade. For high school, I didn’t move. But went to a vocational- technical school for ninth and tenth grade and for some reason, a regular high school for eleventh and twelve grade. But for my vo-tech high school, one day after school a couple of classmates and I snuck in a computer lab. One of the students had a key and we just hung out.
Whenever I went to the computer lab it was always with a class so I never really had a reason to mess around and waste the time. However the computers in the library at my school were often misused for non-academic purposes. (Like playing games instead of working on assignments). So many times Study hall’s were limited in how many they could send to the library and when you were there the computer use got very restricted.
Ah yes, computer labs. Good times. I think they were no longer a thing in high school, when the teachers could rent laptop carts for the class from time to time. In middle school I think we went to computer labs once a week and in elementary school, we went twice a week. We also had more times as a class during big projects. I'm in the same age group as the characters on the show so all of this was super relevant at the time!
I loved The Oregon Trail! I think that was a pretty standard love for a lot of people. I also remember playing Glider and Lemmings on school computers. In elementary school I remember Kid Pix, that was pretty fun. Once again it was a pleasure to watch this classic with you and to hear your commentary on it. I hadn't considered that computer labs were probably obsolete in today's schools, but then again I haven't thought of a computer lab in general in a very long time. My son has had school issued laptops in the past, it makes sense that kids would have something like that at their desks and then the classroom becomes the computer lab as necessary. Until next time, cheers! EDIT to add this high school memory that just came to mind. A friend of mine, for reasons I still don't know, wreaked havoc on the school computers in the library one year by opening .exe files in notepad and deleting random lines of code and saving them that way. When he was finally caught he got a suspension and the following year he took IT classes and of course when they recognized him on the first day they had to call out how he'd given them a run for their money the previous year.
Funny thing about the whole not doing the assignment thing… in middle school, for social studies, we had to pick a state and write information about or something. It was going to be for the social studies fair. (We had both a science fair and a social studies fair.) I was always a good student, my teachers liked me. But I had no idea what to do with this project. Days would go by and it was getting too late to ask. It was actually the day before the project was due. Luckily for me, a student was done with her project. She showed it to me and I kept her project in my mind the whole day. When I got home, I got on my computer, did what she did, but used the state was I was assigned to instead. It was a good thing I had internet and a printer. I never had internet when I was a kid. Loved playing physical computer games, didn’t get internet until late elementary school or early middle school. I did my project that night, then the next day… it was a snow day and school was canceled. But after that, I turned in my project along with other students. We all did so bad on the project, we weren’t allowed to be in the social studies fair. Kind of funny, but the teacher never explained what we did wrong. Also my state project was on North Carolina. I wanted to do Tennessee because I just have vacationed in the Great Smoky Mountains and visited Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. But someone already picked that. Ironically my family would actually go to North Carolina in a couple of months, which I didn’t know we were going.
It’s not a one to one replacement with schools and textbooks but there are absolutely valuable sources and avenues to teach yourself skills and trades through purely online means.
The only experience I have with unrestricted access outside during lunch is how we had outdoor eating areas in high school. In the other levels, leaving to go outside (even if your destination was on the premises) was absolutely not allowed, and you’d get busted if caught.
I dont know how but someone found a way to download and hide the 1st halo game onto one of the computers in the lab. There was a specific combination of files you had to open to find the game. Any computer could also access it because the files were shared. Before summer break the teacher at the lab let the students host a halo lan party because the lab was getting renovated and the old computers were being removed.

I don’t have hands-on experience with a sign-up sheet either. However, the closest thing I do have is making brief appointments with paraprofessionals to use the computer lab or library computers for the same purpose.
Cookie having the same schedule as Lisa is a little bit different from how it would work in my experience. I remember that students having the same schedule was common for my generation in sixth grade, but when later grades came, they opened up more class options that made it more difficult for this to happen. They also had a regular thing where they separated boys and girls in physical education (that includes athletics, too), so the only way they could be grouped together in that category is if they were taking tennis PE (which, as I’ve said before, is something I’m used to seeing separated from both regular PE and common athletics).
14:11 My seventh grade science teacher was excessive with how militant she was on assignment due dates. Before 1st period, she would snatch last night's HW even though our class didn't see her until 7th period, and if she caught us doing our hw during lunch, she would give an automatic 0. Needless to say, I played her game well and actually scored a 101 first marking period

Aw Computer lab. When I was in elementary school, we started out using iMac G3s the mouse on that one sucked, later in elementary school we used eMacs then at I think the last two years of elementary we did get to use the iMac G5. Middle school was mainly HP computers same with high school, but there were those carts with MacBooks or chromebooks.
@@SchoolPrincipalReacts while we’re on the subject, you did mention something about educational games. My computer lab in school wasn't really about finishing projects or stuff like that. They would teach us computer skills
Interesting!
It’s not a one to one replacement with schools and textbooks but there are absolutely valuable sources and avenues to teach yourself skills and trades through purely online means.
Funny seeeing this episode because in Estonia schoolchildren are actually taught basic coding skills, something I really wish we would do here.
Cool 🇪🇪
the coconut head hair being part of the plot is killing me.
Yes lol! 😂
The only experience I have with unrestricted access outside during lunch is how we had outdoor eating areas in high school. In the other levels, leaving to go outside (even if your destination was on the premises) was absolutely not allowed, and you’d get busted if caught.
Yep!
Hello, I see you from Mexico but I understand English very well, I love your videos and I am really looking forward to the next reactions to Ned's Declassifield, I have already seen the complete series and very good episodes are coming and I am fascinated by the manual that you have in the background , I remember when I studied in El Paso Tx. and that school has nothing to do with Ned's
Cool! Hablo español - piensas que deberia crear un video en español algun dia?
@@SchoolPrincipalReacts porfavor hazlo!
@@SchoolPrincipalReacts If you make a video in spanish one day I suggest you react to El Chavo del 8. It has a lot of school related episodes and is still popular worldwide despite the show's age.
Wow!
4:48 UK school system, so this takes place in my 2nd last (year 10) and last year (year 11) of highschool. I was assigned a chemistry coursework in Yr 10, then come Yr 11, after the summer holidays, asked for it, he still didn't get it. I was never big on homework.
Cool thanks! 🇬🇧
14:49 Sneak Back Into Computer Lab: After Mr. Kwest kicked you out because you need to finish your graph project trailer
Lol 😂
I remember playing Where in the World is Carmen Sandiago.
I remember that show…
I remember when i had computer laps, around med school is when it started fading out, maybe few more years maybe around when I’m in high school when I’ve given laptops. Graduated year 2014
17:45 I been in one of those schools, high school for 9th grade, we was outside, i was waiting by a door for the next class then i saw a lightning bot struck like 20 feet away, luckily it hit the ground, but after the lightning happened then a big loud bang happened then someone quickly call on the intercom to go inside. Hehe
My high school had a IT networking class as a extra circular activity class
That’s pretty cool!
That’s exactly how my computer lab was the teacher who ran it didn’t know how to fix computers and student TA’s would be the one helping students
Lol 😂
Aw Computer lab. When I was in elementary school, we started out using iMac G3s the mouse on that one sucked, later in elementary school we used eMacs then at I think the last two years of elementary we did get to use the iMac G5. Middle school was mainly HP computers same with high school, but there were those carts with MacBooks or chromebooks.
Interesting.
@@SchoolPrincipalReacts while we’re on the subject, you did mention something about educational games. Some examples of what I played were Reader rabbit, first grade trouble on cloud nine, which was later in the series, and more of a point and click puzzle solving adventure game. Word blaster another point in click puzzle solving adventure game that one was weird. Times attack. And Carmen San Diego math detective that one was later in the series.
I remember this fun and educational game on the computer way back when I was a kid and it was kid pix
19:54 wait till season 2 or 3 when I was a teen we had a girl who was nerd but before high school she was a babe.
When I was in high school, someone had Halo CE and Minecraft installed to the servers and we would play that a lot until they figured us out
Lol! 😂
Ned looks good
When u gave details about your experience with computer labs in elementary and middle school, are u talking about when u were an educator or a student?
Most of these were from when I was a student…
I remember computer lab time back in school
Me too!
I’m almost 25 and I don’t know what DOS means. I’ve had computer classes but I’d say now that we have carry on Mac books or apple laptops, also I learned there’s a secret ‘game’ in Microsoft office 95 If allowed I’d like to send you a link to it if you’d want.
DOS - it’s like the “command prompt” on modern computers, except that’s all there was pre-windows.
12:37 from but fair.
In middle school I had a teacher how so happened to be a computer teacher who in the beginning had long hair but then he cut it
Also what would be the consequence in real life of what ned and moze did to sneak into the computer lab?
Probably detention or in school suspension for a portion of a day. Nothing crazy.
20:45
Correct simon cook
By the way, I’ve been thinking maybe you could react to the SML video “Bowser Junior Learns Spanish”. It heavily satirizes foreign language classes, and even though it has a lot of inaccuracies, you’ll still probably think it’s funny.
Thanks lol 😂
This episode is definitely one of the more dated ones. In an age where technology is rapidly evolving, it was only a matter of time. Still, the episode will never not be entertaining.
True!
Do you have any interest in reviewing the King Of The Hill episodes: s2 Bobby Slam (focuses on P.E.) or s3 To Spank With Love (discusses discipline)
Thanks. I will look into it.
you should react to clearance there some school stuff in it
Greetings from Argentina, good video! You should watch Courage the Cowardly Dog, episode "Perfect" is great, and it is what the title implies
Gracias por la recomendacion! 🇦🇷
i don’t know if you’ve seen this already or don’t want to but could you maybe react to 13 reasons why? the head teacher in that does my head in😭
