Hello Paul - greetings from Poland.
With all your videos/vlogs, I learn something new everytime I watch one. This is no exception.
So this is where the coal arrived from just across The Bristol Channel in South Wales, to power the Cornish mining industry. Fascinating to learn how they got the coal from the ships up the hill and out of the harbour. Superb video. Thank you

Good morning Michael, yes, this is where the majority of coal was imported into Cornwall, and some the raw product of copper and tin was exported from. Portreath is a lovely little harbour and beach. Thanks for watching and commenting! Cheers, Paul.

What an interesting little place, loved the old photos & traces of history. I have just finished the railway playlist & can say I have learned more about canals & railways this month, than I have in a lifetime!

That is very kind of you to say so! Sometimes, it is difficult in striking just the right balance between showing scenery/photography/videography, and me waffling on about history! Glad you have found my little videos interesting 🙂👍 Cheers, Paul

Hi Paul, Just come from you know where. Great little shortbite. I always love seeing the old photos and the contrast with what there is now. Good spot for those pulleys on the quayside.
It looks like the tramway walk is now open, just been having a look on the Cornwall County site. It also made me wonder if the branch down to the quayside in Newquay was an incline too.
Good to read your recollections of working nearby
    All the best

Ah, cool! Glad that it is open now. Must have a look next time I am there.
      Cheers,
      Paul

Im getting a little addicted to watching your videos Paul. Shows just what a small world it can be. I was also stationed at Raf Portreath on detachment between 1980 to 1983.

We probably met then. I was there from 1982 to 1984 and from 1985 to 1987. I worked on the T.88 radar - later the Martello System on the edge of the old runway. Glad you are enjoying the videos. Cheers, Paul 🙂👍

@@westcountrywanderings if you can remember someone called Boots Wellington who was doing up an old Lotus Elan at the time and located in one of the old sheds near the main runway we probably had then crossed paths. If you can remember the Para's landing an Islander on the runway we must have crossed paths 😎 lovely days Paul.

@@andjo4413 Yes, I very do much remember you. I remember that Elan - other people had caravans and campervans in there too. I did the 4 on 4 off shift pattern - I remember too the 15hour night shifts - singleys accomodation was at RAF St. Mawgan (some married quarters were at RAF St. Eval)- we were bussed in from there. I was based on edge of the airfield but came down to the admin area, where there was a small kitchen (and radio comms cell) and a communal TV! I moved out and stayed in digs in Truro later. Good to catch up on old times! I too remember that Islander landing too! I was later moved into the underground bunker nearer the guardhouse and main entrance. Cheers, Paul.

Oh, wow! Lots of connections there! I was based at RAF Portreath for a while - just up the hill. I know the area well. Is that the Portreath Bakery? I remember when Marion bought it in 1988 and really put it on the pasty map. We always recommended to any visitors that they grab a pasty from there when they were in the area. Huge queue there on Sunday, but worth the wait. I know Porthtowan well too. Hope you are OK. Stay safe too. Paul.

I guess being in New England those Pilgrims who sailed from Plymouth in Devon, England wanted to leave their mark from their homelands in England in the New World territories. It's pretty cool!

No mention of shipping copper and tin from Portreath to Wales for smelting.
