- Using the tail end of the storm "Knud" we made a 10km downwind run that was very fun and challenging. The Rockpool Taran exceeded my expectations once again. Good control and speed for the whole run. On the traverse out I paddled with the rudder up to make it easier to keep the bow up into the strong wind. I would like to try the longer rudder blade next time to improve control on the wave face even more.
What a nice waves!
Dude! This is freakin awesome! nicely done and nice editing. Cheers from Germany.
P.S. I used to live in Sweden, that beautiful fine land.
Thanks. Yes it was a great run. Looking forward to the next time.
That’s definitely a mermaids 🧜🏻♀️ fav 😆
Good to see how the Taran handles in big following seas. I can see you are having to use a stern paddle rudder quite a bit. Guessing because the small track master rudder blade breaks out of the wave? Overstern rudders can't compete with an under stern in these conditions.
This is correct. I do paddle surfskis in these conditions as well and the difference in control and speed is great. For being a sea kayak the Taran is very down wind capable. I tried the larger rudder blade on the Taran but could feel no difference.
Brilliant!!
Superb video! Thank you!
How do you consider boat stability comparing with clasic British kayaks?
Thanks for your comment. The stability is the same as on classic British kayaks like the NDK Romany/Explorer. /Johan
@@escapekayak I found it to have much less initial stability than Brit kayaks. Lots of secondary.
Great downwind place! Standard or Premium layup, if I may ask?
Standard layup.
