A year later Mainstreet opened and closed and converted into Kohl's in 1989 and Kohl's closed in 1995 and it was replaced with Target. In 1993 Eastland underwent serious renovation, including adding a new anchor store Montgomery Ward, which ending up closing in 1998 and JCPenney in 1999. In 2001 Hudsons was rebranded into Marshal Fields and in 2003 Sears opened in the former JCPenney space, and in 2003 the movie theater was demolished for a Lowes. In 2006 the Marshal Fields rebranded into Macy's. The Mall of Monroe. Only 2 or 3 stores left, and they turned one of the old anchor stores into a church.

I,live in Detroit and here's an update on the old Eastland Mall in Harper Woods.
Since the Mall has been demolished and two buildings has been built and a third is under construction.
Home Depot and Lowe's,and other businesses that were in the Eastland Mall Parking Lot are still open for business. This is the very latest update on the old Eastland Mall.
Back in the day and I used to work at Hudson's Eastland Mall Department Store, from 1975-1980.

You walked right past the iconic lion that kids would scramble over! I remember as a kid the store intercom would periodically interrupt the Muzak to announce “ 5-9,..5-9”, which apparently was a security/shoplifting code. Ahh, thank you Detroit childhood

This was the mall I went to as a teen back in the 1990s, back then it was almost fully occupied. There used to be both an attached and an outlot Eastland Theater, and Beacon East across the street (Vernier). Went to see a lot of movies at all of those theaters, and one of my high school friends worked the ticket booth at the outlot Eastland Theater (it was approximately where Lowe's is now). Some weekends my friends and I would walk around in the mall, buy singles on cassette tape (and later CDs) at Musicland, grab food from the food court (which at the time was at the end of the mall closest to I-94) or grab popcorn from Otto's (to the left at 3:02) and window shop. A time or two, my sister and I rode our bikes from our home on Detroit's east side to Eastland. Wonderful memories - sad to see the decline and eventual destruction.

Probably the first Shopping Mall I was ever in, as they close their doors next year.... this may be the very last Shopping Mall I ever visit. I remember my first on-line purchase. Makes me wonder in what decade will this specific "shopping experience" fade away. Nothing lasts forever.....

From age 6 to 40 I lived in Eastpointe. When I was younger I loved going to Eastland! Best place to spend Saturday. They had a Movie theatre, Suncost a couple of toy stores and some great places to eat. They used to have a Big Boys in there. Me and my friends and family had such great memories going there. It's so sad to see it slowly die like that over the years and get a reputation for crime and violence.

It is sad. I used to go to Eastland with my mum or friends and a big part of every trip was to have a Coney Island in the basement concourse. It really is surreal to know that Eastland and so many places I loved going to are gone.

I used to work at Eastland Mall from 1975 until 1980. I worked at Hudson's in the Men's Sportswear Department. I remember when it was a very busy mall. I live right near Eastland Mall and it is an eyesore. Eastland Mall, became another Northland Mall. The Northland Mall was torn down and the City of Southfield, Michigan has plans for the Northland site. The City of Harper Woods, Michigan has plans for the Eastland Mall.
    P.S.,
Even the City Buses stopped going into the Eastland Mall.

IIRC Harper Woods has had plans for Eastland for decades. I remember hearing rumblings about them tearing down the mall going back to the early 2000s at least. I moved out of state years ago, but my mom lived in Harper Woods for a number of years before recently moving away from the neighborhood so I've been back periodically over the years. I definitely concur Eastland is a bit of an eyesore, though the neighborhood as a whole has been in some decline. From what I'm hearing, It looks like they're finally moving forward with the demolition in earnest. Hopefully the changes will be good.

That Mall went down quick when one of the previous owners replaced their private police force with contract security. Then they raised the price of leases so high that no one could afford to run a business there. Raise the lease price and take away the safe environment? No wonder it’s empty. It’s very sad because Eastland used to be a very majestic place. I was a Private Police Officer there from 1994-2000. We had our problems like every other shopping center, but we never had a single shooting like they did when they replaced the police with security guards.

Not the worst looking mall I've ever seen. A shame to see its on its way out soon, though.

It’s definitely a quite shame, I really like the statues they have at this mall. Hopefully they can be Transferred to somewhere else when the mall closes.

Here's an update on the Eastland Mall in Harper Woods, Michigan.
Since, they already tore down the Chili's/Starter's Bar and Grill Building. They are starting to tear down the Eastland Mall, beginning with the Target Store. Once, the Eastland Mall is demolished, the Eastland Mall will become the Eastland Commerce Center. Class A Warehouse and Distribution Center.
    (The Old Eastland Mall).

I went to Eastland Mall to pay my last respects, since I worked at Hudson's Eastland Mall from 1975 until 1980 in the Men's Sports Wear Department 🏬 at Hudson's.
The City of Harper Woods needs to do something about the Eastland Mall it is an eyesore. Eastland opened up in 1957 and I was born in 1957. Eastland and I are both 64 years old.
