I have a tip for all of Matt's viewers. Don't live in a country other than the USA. I filmed weddings for 10 years, and never got past the 800 euro mark per wedding. At average I was paid 500 euros per wedding. It is my understanding that Matt's packages START at 3000-4000 dollars. ROFL Oh and buying equipment here of course was always 30% more expensive than US prices. Just cause. Dollar tax and whatnot. I filmed, edited, and coloured everything myself. I delivered both long and shot videos. 30minute long ones and short trailers. The 30 mins were the main product. They were edited to the frame. I was very good. I know I was. Used cultured music to adorn my films, not Ed Sheeran. A total of more than 250 couples were always ecstatic with satisfaction. So yeah. Just don't live in a third world country. Or one that is but pretends it isn't. Greetings from Greece.
Ι totally agree Dimitris. This pretty much sums up the wedding videography industry in Greece and financially similar countries. The differences to Canada or the USA are huge.
Same here in Puerto Rico, I'm only starting out but from the market research that I have done $1500 per wedding is the average but most start at $500, and everything is much more expensive bc o tax!
@@iwlazaki Are you saying Canada is not a great place to film compared to the states because im starting to think thats true as in Canada we cant charge what i hear you guys are charging
Haven't watched this yet but plan to throughout the weekend. I appreciate the amount of free highly valuable information you give out and expect nothing in return. Thank you!
hey man, watching from BCS. so wholesome seeing your kid @56. this job has me work long hours in front of the screen and I miss my family sometimes. cheers!
Matt! You're a legend! I've been trying to break into wedding Photography, part time side hustle style, but your wedding films have inspired me to transition to moving picture. So much more emotive. Up for your Class when you start it up again. 🍻
To speak to the whole "going to LA thing" I can totally agree with that. I do some work there as DP and I don't make NEARLY as much as I do with filming weddings. Usually $750 a day. Depending on the production. While I love it, the cost of living there is insane and not really worth the struggle. I admire my fellow DP's that do it but the quality of life matters more to me. With wedding filmmaking, I have a blast, make good money and my mental state isn't as drained.
For the quinceañeras. It’s almost the same as a wedding. Getting ready, ceremony, reception waltz with dad n mom. Some quinceañeras have a surprise dance they have practice for. A few months. And dance
Anyone wondering if the entire 3+ hours is worth it, I’m at the 2 hour mark now and it’s 100% worth your time esp if you’re into wedding films, I started listening while driving and now while editing a wedding I shot this past weekend. Who is Matt you may ask? He’s been my go to guy for Wedding Filmography for a few years now & on top of that is a genuinely great guy with a wonderful fam!
First, For shame sir! Not having the Ultimate Wedding Filmmaker available right now. I signed up to get notified when it will be live again, watched the free course video and felt nothing but teased! Second, You think you can use the Aputure 60x LS as a key light for studio/commercial work if you don't have a better option?
I was using Facebook business pages for my weddings, but recently this got hacked and I've been disabled with no ability to get back in and Facebook is terrible at ignoring. So I'm re-starting again from scratch, so is there a better platform out there. Many thanks.
I give raw footage to all my clients. Doesnt make sense to keep it. They paid me to film their wedding, and what I chose to edit out shouldnt be what they're limited to. If there's something specifically I dont want them to see then I wont include it, but for the most part that footage should belong to them.
Question, do you think video is going to get a push with the big apps pushing video, it is being prioritised over stills. I get photos is the higher priority for weddings but do you think this will change?
Because I just introduced the course I wanted to close it so I could focus on the students that signed up and learn ways I could improve the course before I re-release it 😊
Greetings, If you use a highlight or entire wedding video on your web site for sample purposes, do you need to get client to sign a release agreement to use? Thanks!, Gasp, I'm about to take the plunge real soon to start my new career, you're my mentor!!
Speaking as a UK videographer, the current situation is that practically everyone wants sub £1500 (in rural areas, sub-£800) feature-length videography with everything including the kitchen sink (and your firstborn child, if they can haggle that out of you). This isn't just the current economic climate, but the way things have been since time immemorial. Right now, the market is massively oversaturated, so the ten jobs in a thousand that have higher budgets will be fought over like a pack of ravenous hyenas desperately stripping a rotting carcass. In addition, the high-end field is ruled by big companies with huge marketing budgets and, consequently, reach. In the UK and Ireland, videography is looked down upon as the red-headed stepchild of photography; probably due to the weirdly prevalent belief that the job could be done by a monkey with a camera, and the client cannot conceive of the job as anything beyond literally holding a camera and pressing the record button. This is how it works - the couple will prioritize the photographer and gladly hand over more than two grand to them, then work down their list of essentials until they get to you - and, if you're very, very lucky, they will bung you a grand for your services; which they will, rest assured, make you work exceptionally hard for. Its depressing. But, to cut a long story short, if you put your prices up to what Matt would prefer in the UK... well, you're (probably) out of business, its as simple as that.
Yeah if people want to get a monkey with an iphone to film their wedding, go for your life. But video is heaps more work than photography and i see people "calling themselves professional photographers", producing worse quality than a iphone will produce with photos. The difference between amateur photographers and pros, the gap is far less, than video. I do both and video is heaps harder to produce good content. I get the perception that many people think monkeys can take photos too. But where the "friend" videographer falls down, is they are not focused on the job and don't know how too deliver it. I have seen so many videos filmed that don't get to the couple.
More than 3 hours sharing priceless knowledge from years of experience....No comments, just WOW!!! You Rock Matt!!!

That is not true, here in Western Australia the main wedding videographers are charging over $5k AUD.
@@waynosfotos (Western) Australia is not a third world country mate. You, the US, Canada, UK, you are all in the same colonial boat.

I was sold at raw footage to practice edit. Def will be buying! Thank you Matt!

Yes will work well for studio work too

I love this but I feel like it was more of pitch to sale your course.
Damn I missed out on the raw footage lol
Hi Matt - Do you recommend any RUclips editing companies?
Why is the course closed instead of just listed at regular price now that the discount has ended?
Because I just introduced the course I wanted to close it so I could focus on the students that signed up and learn ways I could improve the course before I re-release it 😊
How much do you pay yourselves for owner's compensation?

Hey Steven! I would make sure your contract states that you are able to use the video to promote your business and you should be good to go.
It is your content, make sure you say so in the contract. Also say they can't use your content for commercial or business promotion.
