I'm an old lady but I wasn't always that way. Once I was forty something and fell in love with a wonderful man. We ran away together around the time we'd discovered Grover and boy, did we groove to him. Sadly the big love of my life passed on. But there's no law against playing Winelight and remembering.

I saw him at the fox theater back in the nineties. He is one of my favorite artists. I listen to him all during my military service.
first got into grover wahsington, jr back in early 80's when i left to go to college. i was the only white guy in my dorm that liked jazz. all my schoolmates asked me what i was doing listening to "black" music. i told them: "it's not black or white, man. it's jazz!" love this man's music!
Music is the thing that unites us, no matter color, creed, preference, or language! Keep jammin!
Music has no color....and ALL the color at the same time. Its the one thing the ALL humans enjoy. When we enjoy music...we are all as one!
It doesn't matter if you're black or white, straight or LGBT, young or old. All that matters is that you've got talent!
Jazz is jazz. you have to have a fine ear, a sense of rhythm, a sense of vibration, when you understand jazz. Not everybody has the insight.You have to FEEL jazz, within your bones. When you feel it, you know you feel it, and that's it.

I bought the cassette tape in 1980. Played it many times going to visit my girlfriend who lived 30 min away. It became our family theme. We still listen to it. Great music gets greater with time.

Grover, Sanborn, Spyro Gyra since the late 70's. And it still works today. This music is forever as far as I am concerned. Was so sad when Grover passed.
When Grover plays he enters in another world. That's certainly for that reason people feel goosebump when they hear him. He was so true and generous. I'll be missing this man all my life.

One of the best jazz songs of all time l started listening to his music 40 years ago and still love it
The whole album is great. Listened the hell out of it back in the 80s, especially while studying in college. Just looked up concert footage wondering if Marcus Miller toured with him in this video-no, “just” Anthony Jackson! Such incredible musicians.

Saw him live at the variety playhouse in atlanta in 95- best money I ever spent. we waited out front to get in and he greeted fans at the door as only he could. His loss was painful yet the sound lives on.

I grew up with Grover in grade school. I could hum all of his solos on every album. As an adult I sometimes catch myself playing something I heard him do years ago without even realizing thats where I got it from when improvising. RIP Grover.
He inspired me to try to play. Unfortunately I never got to see him perform or speak with him. He's sorely missed! I find myself doing some of his mannerisms when I play without realizing it! He could do things that are just incredible to this day! Especially when he soars on a solo! I find it good to practice with his stuff. It helped me get to my current level with a whole ocean to still try to learn. What a gift to us!

Not many people are talented enough to lay claim to starting an entire genre of music. Grover Washington Jr was. I love watching him. His soul pours out through that sax.
This is a lost art in modern day music. Does anybody play the mechanical instrument anymore? In the face of all the crap we hear today, this type of music is soothing and log-lasting. R.I.P. Grover...we love ya brother!!

Grover with the old core, Richard, Ralph, Anthony, Eric, and Steve. Man, these guys built the bridge to smooth jazz! Moments like this should be forever preserved for posterity, lest future generations forget, or are lost in the music of their time. Feelin' like Wayne and Garth.."we're not worthy"👏👏👏👏

I am happy to say that I've had the pleasure of seeing Grover live in concert. It still ranks as one of the greatest musical experiences of my life.
My wife and I have seen Grover perform many times; but his performance at Villa Montalvo Winery in Northern California was one of the best. It was a very sad when I was told that Mr. Grover Washington died-so passed a part of me. No one will ever play the sax like him again...
Ben listening to Grover since the late 70's. One of the great smooth jazz artists and a co-founder if the genre. It does not get any better than this.

I saw him in Atlanta in '94. I have seen them all, and this was the best show I ever saw hands down.
I purchased this album the day after I heard this song on KINK FM 102 Portland Oregon back in 1980, just a couple years out of high school and realizing that my Big Band music up bringing had a big influence on my adult taste in music and Grover Washington Jr. though I never saw him in concert was at the top of my playlist for many years and is obviously still on my now very extensive playlist being 62 years of age, this song has certainly held up much better than I have, still smooth and very cool.

I was around the area and knew about the Grover concert at the Spectrum.I also knew his music as I became a Jazz fan a few years before as I heard Grover on the radio and he was a big 76'er fan with Dr.J as a big fan and promoter as well.Grover even played the National Anthem at the Spectrum before big games and the fans cheered!But I was a jerkoff and didn't see this concert.That song,"Winelight" cemented me as a lifelong Jazz fan.I listen to the song often.I found a even better version of it on a album produced by Jason Miles called "To Grover with Love" You won't be sorry if ya listen to that version of this great song.

Thanks for uploading such relaxing, and stress-reducing music...while I'm at the library, checking my emails. Also, reminds me of the wonderful times I had, while doing live theater, at Chicago's, "Parkway Community House'. Grover's music was often played during intermission.

When I was in High School my sister introduced me to Grover. Sooo smooth...or 'smoove' as she would say.
100% GENIUS !!! We're SO isolated here in NZ that I only just found out he'd died. Gutted! Was THE most talented of ALL saxophonists, inc Wilton Felder and Gerald Albright, who I hold in high regard.
Remembering Eric Gale, Richard Tee, Ralpha MacDonald, and Gorver Washington Jr. I wanted to hear more of these guys.

WJZZ in Detroit used to play the livin' bejeezuz out of this when it first came out, and because of THAT... this was my very first jazz album that I bought with babysitting money I earned, when I was a sophomore in high school. 2020, STILL listening and loving it!
