Dude this is JUST what I wanted. There's a shanty in a favorite book of mine that has lyrics but no tune (obviously, seeing as how it's a book, haha). I've always wanted to be able to sing it. This is great, thank you.
Very interesting how much of a difference orchestration/instrumentation makes. If your shanty was played on a springy surf guitar, it'd sound passably like a Western soundtrack!
Writing a Sea Shanty for my best friend's birthday! We are going to renaissance faire as a pirate crew, even came up with "characters" to LARP as, I'm writing one for her character!
So im a little bit late but if someone want to know the answer i is for the first degree so if you take for example C major scale the first degree would be C. Now in a "normal" scale you normally have 7 notes. So there is i II III IV VI VII So a i major would be a first degree major chord. So by taking the C major scale exemple, it would be a C major chord.

Hi! Love the video!
If I wanted to do this in Eminor - would the chord progression be Eminor - Amajor - Bmajor? I'm struggling with working it out 😖
Hey, I know you posted this i months ago, but the progression in E minor would be E minor to D major to B major and back to E minor
This is brilliant. Now I just need some lyrics.
Ho hey, sweet lady of Wayrest! Ho hey, sweet lady of mine! Oh I'll see you again, yes I'll see you again, sweet lady of Wayrest so fine!
you're the man!
thank you my friend!
what platform did you use to make the music?
this is awesome, I have a Halloween project and this is exactly what I had in mind
This is great and all, but when will we get a space shanty guide? Gotta think ahead, you know?
Space shanties... now THAT is a music genre I'd love to hear haha
I have an arrangement of Drunken Sailor that me and some buddies use and our chords are D minor, C major and F major, or i VIII III
great!
Do you maybe also have videos on explaining what minor i major VII etc mean?
I have been in music a lot, but its the first time I see it like this ^^
