One grey day, so thick with fog, the clouds hung heavy and low
A fisherman out on the waves hauled his nets up from below
Tangled up amongst the cod and bass and brill and bream
Was something strange and scaly like a vision from a dream
Da da da da, da da da da, a vision from a dream
She had fins where her feet should be, her eyes were dark as a storm
The siren that he caught upon that grey and fateful morn
Behind her lips, her teeth were sharp, much sharper than his knives
She said to him, come closer sir, and I’ll eat you alive
Da da da da, da da da da, I’ll eat you alive
CHORUS
Beware the wave-soaked maidens, to whom the depths belong
If you sail upon their waters, then you won’t sail for long.
He trembled as she gazed at him, her eyes were hungry and cold
She was a sight both terrible and lovely to behold
“Please don’t feast upon my flesh,” he begged her to forgive
“If I return you to the sea, then won’t you let me live?”
Da da da da, da da da da, won’t you let me live
She looked at him upon his knees, and thought him a pitiful sight
She told him, “I will let you go, but quickly take your flight.
If ever you should drop your nets again amongst these waves
Then me and all my sisters here will drag you to your grave.
Da da da da, da da da da, drag you to your grave
CHORUS
Beware the wave-soaked maidens, to whom the depths belong
If you sail upon their waters, then you won’t sail for long.
A fortnight hence, he tossed and turned, her eyes had driven him mad
And when he slept, all he could see was the lady seaweed-clad
Desperate for just one glimpse more, he took back to the deep
And sure enough, she came to him, with promises to keep
Da da da da, da da da da, promises to keep
She said “Good sir, I warned you once, that you could never return.
I should have known right then and there, your kind will never learn.”
When he saw her sisters rise he knew that he was damned
And now his bones are fathoms deep, all buried in the sand
Da da da da, da da da da, buried in the sand
CHORUS
Beware the wave-soaked maidens, to whom the depths belong
If you sail upon their waters, then you won’t sail for long.
If you sail upon their waters, then you won’t sail for long. Видеоклипы

The song was amazing! The costumes made it even better, though I think your pirate was my favorite Ginny ✨
I don't have any songs or music, what if I just want to hear the rest of the songs on your album? Or is it just one song right now?
All the songs are available on streaming platforms, linked in the description! Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and more.
Been using sounddrop for a while! I'm a big fan :D
hey just wanted to let you know that I somehow found 6 of your songs from the new album on youtube for free. they have between 300-600 view's and all came out 23 hours ago. they are all from your channel but I cant find them when I go there. they are only music with the album cover and purple background. also comments are disabled there. just wanted to let you know incase we weren't supposed to see them yet. I hope that this isn't a problem.
I have a private playlist with the songs in question, just let me know what to do with it.
I love that Ginny had enough friends with pirate costumes to fill a bar.
If you're in the scene, it's way more likely than it might seem.
Someone lets me know there is an opportunity to dress as a pirate and my schedule is free, arrr’ll be tharrrr
@@WeTheThreeBusketeers I need to find this scene.
@@JosephDavies Your quest begins at the nearest renn faire
@@BaznadTypo I hope to visit one, once it is safe to do so! Thanks for the recommendation. :)
I love that pirate Ginny still has the mermaid fangs. I love the idea that she takes trips on shore to the local pub to sing about how terrifying her and her family are.
I didn't notice that at first, thanks!
I would of figer out that she one wave Sokead Madain in her human from that when you want chapter them couse they can't back to water fast a nuff
Notice as well that the women at her table are her sisters
Yeah and she is singing with the fangs which is amazingly hard.
@@willbrashear she likely recorded the song in a studio and then lip-synced while in the bar
When I was a kid, I loved the sea but my mother never let me go too deep in, even if the water is still shallow. I remember sneaking a few inches further every now and then but always got pulled back.
She was told by her grandmother about people who got called out to the sea and disappeared under the waves. Sometimes they are lured in by powerful but beautiful sea maidens but sometimes it simply manifests through an inexplicable love for the sea. During the monsoon season, when the sea is especially rough, they say that the sea would claim a certain number of people and they will count the drowned before deciding it is safe to go back to the sea, even if the seas have calmed down.
For the people of her place, these aren't fairytales, these are real stories. My mom doesn't necessarily believe in all of the details but she isn't going to take her chances.
Oh my gosh, there's a track on my album that I think would really connect with your mom's fears - it's called Seafarer's Lullaby, and it's written from the perspective of a mother warning her son to be wary of the sea calling to him.
@@GinnyDi I played the song immediately after reading your comment. It gave me the chills and brought tears to my eye. I could feel the mother's plea, especially at the end and knowing that she must be singing this song to her child throughout his infancy. And it definitely reminds me of my mom.
The music, the lyrics and the vocals are beautiful and they all tell the story so well. Thank you for making it and sharing it with us.
It's interesting with the different mythologies that exist around water, and why you should always be extra careful around it. In Sweden we have Näcken (could be interpreted as the naked one, but idk if that's just me); usually a beautiful naked male figure playing the violin in a stream, but sometimes it takes the form of a horse known as Bäckahästen who will lure people to ride it and then drag them below. Sometimes these two are different entities.
@@scouttyra ok now I want cosplays/music of *that* - sexy sea man with a violin? Yes please. (Commences googling...)
@@scouttyra I believe another name for the Bäckahästen is "kelpie", a type of faerie that manifests as a wild horse with sharp teeth that lives near a body of water and appears friendly and inviting to any humans that should approach it. Should a human choose to mount the kelpie, they'll become stuck to its back as the kelpie drags the human to the bottom of the body of water to drown and eat them.
Anyone else notice that the other pirates Ginny is sitting with in the beginning are the other mermaids? I'm imagine after drowning the sailor they are now on land to drag others to the shore as punishment as sailors keep trespassing on their waters. The song is both a promise and a threat as much it is a warning!
Singer Ginny also still has mermaid fangs.
@@BadWolf739 Mermaid fangs are something that I never thought of before but now that I think about it I really like the idea
I think the other Pirates know what are they
@@BadWolf739 They may be naturally longer, but I'm not sure, this is the first time I've ever heard or seen this stunningly adorable blue-haired woman.
fisherman* the guy is fishing for food....
"And sure enough/She came to him/With promises to keep" WOW, what a chilling threat! Love it.
Amazing. Also loved how you can see all three mermaids/sirens sitting around the same bar table as Ginny sings. Such great detail and possible storytelling
I know right! and the fact that she still has the fangs in the bar
"Not usually." is a concerning lack of certainty for a customer service interaction's drowning risk. :D
As a customer service worker, Ginny drowning me would be a net good customer interaction.
I choked on my drink when she said that. lol
I imagine customer service workers would agree with this amount of certainty
Sometimes you just have Songs to Drown Sailors To.
There are a lot worse customer reactions on a daily basis, than a mermaid which tries to drown you. ;) Believe me. I do this for a living.
Oh grandiose!
I love how he comes back and she keeps her promise instead of falling in love. Very satisfying.
But he was being NICE! /s
I knew I was gonna like this song, but I was not expecting a whole ass music video. And what a treat that was as both are so amazing!
Same here. I was just expecting a song, not a full blown video!!!
and at the end the one singing shows her fangs, it was the mermaid all along... what a twist!
@@BlackRainRising We see glimpses of her fangs all along the video.
@@Loukas_Paquette yeah after watching it 99999999 more times I realized they were there the whole time... part of me thinks it would have been a cooler thing had they ONLY been shown at the end, either way still love this song
I'M READY
*starts in 3 hours*
I'M STILL READY
This is so charming and spooky, with a really catchy chorus. And the filming? AND THE COSTUMES? This is your best song yet!! Every little detail of the video is just so perfect, and the song gave me chills. Now if you don’t mind, I’m going to watch it again!
BARKEEP, A DRINK FOR THE ELOQUENT APPARITION
@@WeTheThreeBusketeers and a toast to you, good sir!
SO EXCITED FOR THIS!!! REMINDER SET AND DEVICES READY FOR THE PREMIERE
THANKS FRIEND!!
Oh man I got SHIVERS. this is so good!! And so fun to listen to, I'm definitely listening to it again. Once or twice. Or fifty. I also LOVE the touch that Ginny's character in the tavern still has the sharp teeth, definitely adds to the ominous parts.
If he was gonna come back he should've brought tribute. Like a goat.
i think we all know Ginny Di's the GOAT!
Such an entertaining video, I liked that the video was showing the mermaids as the singing maidens, hidden among the common folk as it was, singing of their own victories. Very fun. The ad at the end was top notch though, the royalties bit is gold.
Production is top notch! Ginny, you've topped yourself yet again.
Hell yes! Production values thru the roof!
@@WeTheThreeBusketeers I wonder what gear it was shot with .
@@Catdaddy77302 Likewise!
It's not often that I actually set a reminder for a premiere, but you'd better believe that I am today!
How did you comment on this two hours before it posted?
This video had a live premiere, so the video page was available for comments for about 6 hours before the video itself went live.
I feel you, I've done it like three times ever - counting this one.
Poor Sailor, now he's just "Bones in the Ocean." You absolutely stomped this Ginny! you've got an awesome voice.
I find the final verse incredibly haunting. You've really captured that "longing to wade into the sea but also run from it!" in equal measures. Great video!
My group is literally setting sail next session. And this is literally the inspiration I needed for mermaid folk lore tails and encounter’s. Not only that Ginny but you described a beautifuly terrifying mermaid. You are AMAZING!
"The Wave-Soaked Maiden" , sounds like the name of the tavern
That's a great idea! *steals for a DnD game sometime in the future*
Reminds me of Monty Python and the Holy Grail: "watery tart" and "moistened bint."
Okay, but only if it is run by a triton who may or may not kill fishers.
Noted. Added to pathfinder game.
@@Zagaroth
Make it haunted by the ghost of a maiden whom drowned in a well to prevent herself from getting burned at the stake.
Legend has it, she sings mournful wails on the night of the full moon in the tavern halls, waiting for her long lost love to return once more.
You can thank me for the idea later.
"Vision from a dream" is a mighty accurate description of this whole video! 😍😍😍
Headcannon: ginny’s character and sisters taught the tavern that song based off true events. (Might be what is intended but if not then that’s how I like thinking of it)
I mean the pirate she plays has the same fangs as the mermaid, so not impossible.
@@isaachepworth7860 kind of where I though of it
@@acewatt2737 It would explain how she knows about events that the only surviving witnesses were the mermaids.
Most legends are rooted in truth, no? Plus, who better to spread the tale of monsters than the monsters themselves?
If almost anyone else came out with an album entitled, "Songs to Drown Sailors To," I'd just roll my eyes. Ginny comes out with an album with that name and I'm like, "YEAH!"
i love how the crowd gets more and more involved as the song goes harder X,D
4.5 hours early, 20 likes, 12 people waiting. This is the community love I love to see. Can’t wait!
YES THIS IS INCREDIBLE- the production quality just?!?! This was a whole movie. Amazing
🏴☠️🐟💀
This is an excellent song about the importance of respecting women's boundaries.
YES!!!
Best review yet
This one understands the assignment
Good take!
😆
the whole EP is AWESOME to listen to while painting for Mermay !!! so soothing and haunting !
My 3-year old singing this song is amazing. Her giggling hysterically at the line "Now his bones are fathoms deep, all buried in the sand." ? Priceless.
I'm so thrilled the world finally gets to see this!
What a fun song!!!! The sets???? The costumes???? The acting????? It's all so good!!!!
I love when she includes josh into the videos, it’s just so cute.
Who is Josh?
My fiancé, the sailor in this video.
@@GinnyDi He's great!
I really like how they interact in the cooking videos. Too cute
@@JosephDavies why is Josh?
Added this to my Pirate Campaign youtube playlist. This song is technically canon now! yay!
Just finished listening to the whole album inspired me to come up with something for an aquatic 5e campaign. Thank you for the soundtrack
I've only known and watched your d&d content before. now I'm blown away by your music too.
I was sadly at work when I got the Patreon notification, but this was certainly worth the wait. Then that reveal, "oh well look here, it seems our lovely singer has such a lovely smile, and sharp teeth... like the mermaid... Holy crap! It all makes sense!"
On another note, I am stoked for the album's release. Thank you Ginny for sharing your talents.
This is SO good!! Even after seeing a bunch of Ginny Di's work, this still completely blew me away!
This was soooooo amazing and now I feel a mighty need to draw a Wave Soaked Maiden
Reviving the art of the shanty is one the more worthwhile things to happen in these unclean times.
If the mermaids don't get ya, Uk'otoa will - sharks are the least of your worries, arrr.
I hear the mountains are nice, this time of year. : /
**whispers** Uk’otoaaaaaa…
josh looks really good in a cape
IT’S TRUE!!
Long time fan of Irish folk music and whaling songs, somewhat less time being a fan of Ginni Di. But man oh man, this was even more awesome than I imagined it would be. Looking forward to streaming the album, and thanks to everyone involved in making this happen!
it says a lot about me that the first significant thought i had was "cool cards! i wonder what deck that is" anyway, awesome song Ginny
we literally bought them at the grocery store the morning of the shoot lol
I don't care how many times this comes up on my feed, I am required to listen. The whole album is great, but this is one of my favorite songs ever!
Today is going to be a good day!! Can't wait to watch!
I cannot stop going back to this to listen to it again and again
This was really great! Thanks to all involved 🙏 Cheers!🍻
These music videos are always the best, and this one was at the top. So inventive and well-done. Love the teeth.
The production quality is pretty staggering. Amazing as always
This will be stuck in my head forever and I'm so excited about it!
I could gush about this for hours- everything about it is so incredible! From the acting to the cinematography to the song to the lyrics and everything else I've forgotten.
Its so amazing and I, too, like sailor Josh would face death to see such a stunning mermaid once more (but luckily I can just come back to this video any time).
I love everything about this and I am in awe of your skill Ginny!!! ❤❤😍😍❤❤
AAAAAAAAAA I LOVE THIS AND IT'S ALREADY STUCK IN MY HEAD
Tell me why I'm getting EMOTIONAL!!! I love all your projects, but you can tell this is so special to you
Excellent production. I wonder when are we going to start seeing you on the national charts.
Two fins, um I mean thumbs, up.
I am so ready for this! I've seen the updates on instagram and I can't wait to see it all come together into an inevitable masterpiece
Oh god, the sirens have gotten to music streaming, nowhere is safe!
Absolutely top notch work throughout. Everything complements each other, with great music and a fab video
"Come in, come in"
This was fantastic! Both song and production quality were above and beyond!
Here comes the new shanty I'll be listening to non stop🔥🔥🔥
Not gonna lie. I was not expecting this to be that good. And now its definitely going to be part of my background track for some ocean taverns.
Sea shanties have always had a place in my heart every since I first learned of pirates.
Thank you for this new wonderful addition to my sea shanties playlist. You did amazing in this.
You really are a one woman show Ginny. Love your channel and your talent. I loved the song as well.
Ginny this is brilliant. Catchy. Fun. Tells a story. Love the setting. Your lovely sailor did amazing. I’m just blown away again. Always excited to hear what you’re singing. I’d be happily drowned by you any day hahaha!
Not only do I love the tail and the story the song brings, but the "fangs" are a great touch!! Awesome Job with all of it!! Huzzah!!!
I have listened to this song twice and it's already stuck in my head forever! Now that's what I want from a Sea Shanty, amazing job! And the production quality of the video, *chef's kiss*
This song is smooth as hell, you’ve outdone yourself Ginny
This is even better than I thought it would be! Well done Ginny!
this is sooooo perfect for my mermaid bard DnD character! Thanks for the insperation!
I always expect high quality from Ginny's stuff and I was very excited for this release but it still blew me away!! GOOSEBUMPS on every refrain wow. Amazing, incredible work. I know I'm going to be singing this all day. Everyone PLEASE go check out the full EP it's equally excellent. La da da da, la da da da da....
This is taking an honorary addition to my Exandrian Sea Shanties playlist.
"Hello friends and fishes."
*Me: "HAND!"
"Yes, that is your hand" 😂
I really like this song. Fortunately, I never saw any mermaids like this during my time sailing the oceans in the Navy. Beautiful, yet deadly :)
My wife & stayed up late taking care of our little puppy that’s a bit under the weather & to pass the time came across the video.., we are heavy into working renaissance & pirate festivals & we absolutely loved this video, it was fun & cute & absolutely awesome & we are subscribing right this moment.
Yup, The Wave-Soaked Maiden is definitely going to be a dockside tavern in my campaigns from now on. And there's almost certainly going to be a bard singing the song it's named for (I only say almost certainly because a soul just as wild as the seas that she calls home is definitely NOT going to live her life according to the convenience of PCs schedules. So if they show up when she's in the briny deep, then they're going to hear about her, without meeting her).
The production is outstanding! And the song super catchy. Love it so much
*Waves a candle above my head like a lighter.*
That was brilliant Ginny. It looks like y'all had a lot of fun making this.
Looking forward to this after the teasers with you and Josh and your previous mermaid songs. Will likely miss the premier due to a work meeting, but will catch it as soon as possible after.
I love that at the end she says "not usually" implying that sometimes she does😂
Love love love 🥰 so beautiful will be singing this forever now 🧜🏻♀️
I am simply ✨obsessed✨
My new favourite thing in the entire world. My favourite quirky DM guider is a quirky singer? Absolutely amazing
So it took you all of seven minutes to inspire me (or should that be lure me?) into planning a pirate campaign for my D&D group now. Thanks Ginny, amazing shanty! 🏴☠️
Perfect quest starter
Wow the production quality is so incredible
WOW GINNY this is STUNNING. It's definitely going to be stuck in my head for the next month, and no complains here at all
It's definitely my favorite in Songs To Drown Pirates to! I love the juxtaposition of the happy melody, with the very dangerous mermaid and dramatic ending!
But moreover, I have a pirate character, whose father was himself a pirate in his own time, and I could imagine my dude growing up with this one.
GINNY! THAT WAS AMAZING!! Shivers from the first note. Woooooow!
Aye! Brings me back to my sea-faring days back, oh, ages ago, when I diverted many a time my tub from the siren's call of the mer-maids - only reason I'm still standing here now on landlubber's muddy ground today. Still, always up for a good rousing tavern shanty and this fetching song bewitched this salty old sailor's ears. Raising a flagon to ye, lass!
The last part of the song was relatable: I’d gladly sail to my inevitable death just to see Ginny’s gorgeous face one more time.
Blimey, that was great. The production and performers are both top-notch. The water looks chilly; and the fisherman looks a right hunk.
I’m impressed with the production value!
I can just imagine this playing when you enter the tavern in a harbour town. So awesome.
Oh man the music, the setting and all the people at the beginning, this is so cool
This is really great, Thank you! Liked and commenting so hopefully more people can see it! Great work all around great song, lyrics singing and production!
Wonderful song! Thanks for making sure there were captions for accessibility and singing along!
Your Songs and Music videos amaze me all the time. Love it. Im walking around my apartement with headphones on all day.
Just found this song and listened to it 10 times already. Love the channel too
The song is great, the video is great, but the final conversation with the mermaid about soundrop... that, that is gold 😂😂
Fantastic job on this! Really hope to the ep gets a ton of traction. You deserve all the attention and more!
I'm playing our second pirate themed D&D session tonight, this is my character's favorite shanty.
The song and video are both *so* good. This is amazing, and was so worth the wait. 😮
So many of my favorite faces in the video too. 🥺
greatest song ever.
