Late Pa Hubert Ogunde lives forever. Nobody can never be like Ogunde, bestowed with knowledge wisdom and power. Hubert Ogunde led both theatre and music industry that nobody has never done worldwide. Kidos to late legend. RIP
This is amazing stuff from this philosopher, Chief Hubert Ogunde. I imagine myself in the presence of my favorite people like Kunle Oshingbesan RIP, late broadcaster Chief Dokun Famubode, baba 'laudo' Otubanjo RIP, sista mi Peju Oworu-Wilson, elegant auntie Mrs. Enahoro(Peter Pan's wife), stunning beauties Kudi Akande(of Oke Odo fame), Yinka Alade - of Afe Babalola fame - and 'omo Oba' Debo Olateru-Olagbegi dancing to this in an Oke Ado club. That would have been a riot of a night out 😂😂😂😂.
How I wish this particular music can find its ways to the radio and television stations across Nigeria and let the whole nation see what has been and still in the polity of the entity called Nigeria of yestde and today. God save our future. But there's end to everything in this world. Pa Ogunde had made his mark and gone, the stage is left for me and you, what shall we be remembered of when we are no longer on the face of the earth. Okan mi O sun, O mbami soro, O nriran tosan toru!

Yoruba nation a great gift from Eledua the creator, has not achieve the God's given potential due to the foreign influence and religious, who says Yoruba traditional way are not from Almighty ( Eledua) God? God will liberate Yorubaland from the bondage of mental slavery and colonial oppression, Yoruba traditional, culture, music, messages, religion, mentality is superior to the foreign imposed ones

I always thought i have heard all Ogunde records, but am surprised i missed this while growing up. Thanks EgbaAlake for bringing this to my consciousness.
This is the only relevant song which diagnosed the downward spiral of our Nigerian societies which had been ignored over the years! Hence the demise of the character! Until we return to the observation and upholding of the moral character , all the talking is futile!!!
This is MICHAEL OLOKO'S song. He is from Ikorodu town, was a member of OGUNDE'S theatre group before he formed his own group after the death of CHIEF OGUNDE, his theatre group is called OLOKO THEATRE based at Jibowu Fadeyi Lagos.
You cannot put the apprentice before the Master. Micheal Oloko was, as you acknowledged, a member of Ogunde's troupe and learnt the art from his master, Hubert Ogunde. After Ogunde's exit, it is natural for an artist to reach back to his roots and honour his master by performing his song, the same way Seun Kuti now sings Fela Anikulapo-Kuti's songs. Oloko was a protege of Ogunde and learnt his trade from Ogunde. The song was originally composed and produced by Ogunde.
@schynam, not that i know the meaning of Iwogbe, but listening through this song over the years, i actually thought it meant 'Conscience'.....though again, i lay no claim to knowing the actual meaning, i am just looking for validation of the meaning. It remains my favorite Hubert Ogunde"s song. Danceable, with very rich meanings, sonorous, and well arranged. He was a genius.
Egbaalake, you are awesome. However, I am not 100% sure if this song was recorded by Chief Ogunde. I need to see the album to confirm that. I believe it was recorded by Abaru Oloko otherwise known as Baba Araba in home videos who had his tutelage under Ogunde. The Ikorodu born Oloko was a thespian par excellence. He was a regular visitor to our house back in the days. One of his drama "Suru" was later narrated by Ebenezer Obey in one of his songs in the 70s. Surely one of the unsung heroes in Nigeria theatre industry. I believe he died few years ago.
Okuboro, can't believe I'm just receiving your comment.Thank you for the observation. This Album was Vol.2 of Chief Hubert Ogunde released in 1974 as a theme song of one of his plays.Side B is titled ''EKO'. I will try and post the Album cover as the thumbnail.Pls check back. And immense appreciation once again.
EgbaAlake thanks for your response. It could be a case of Abaru Oloko reproducing the song again in the 80s. I only heard his own version of the song. Again thanks for sharing this lovely song by the legendary Hubert Ogunde.
If you came back here in 2024. God bless you. Keep supporting Yoruba music
