Yeah, when Evan Dorkin (the Author) talked about the future fates of the characters after the Epilogue. Bill just contineus being a basement dweller and dying alone and unloved. The only social contacts he has being "other anonymous message board shit-posters who never even noticed he was gone because they spent the week he died railing about Batman and casting choices for a movie based on toys".
The fact that these four knuckleheads are still friends after all of the fighting in the cartoon and the comic is absolutely insane.
Correct me if I'm wrong but in the epilogue of the comics, didn't it say that Jerry tried to get the group together again after they all grew up and as soon as he brought Bill in all hell broke loose again, so he walked off presumably cutting them out of their lives.

With how visibly toxic fandoms have been because of the internet. This show would kill it if it was released now. Truly a victim of being too ahead of its time.
It would definetly be more successful now that people love cynical, rude characters. The problem is that he's way too realistic, not even Rick Sanchez levels of rude nihilist, but more Discord mod level. It would resonante so much with people that they'd refuse to accept he's basically a Twitter tough guy who makes RUclips video essays about why Marvel movies suck now
Josh is not a saint, but it's clear that Bill brings the worst in him. Also, the latest comic run made it seems the author got more bitter towards geek culture after seeing how the internet emboldened them to be even more agressive and a-holes in general.

Josh is a lot more sympathetic than both Pete and Bill toward the end. Still an asshole know-it-all with problems, but at least his job doesn’t actively harm people like Pete’s or the attempted business of Bill
Honestly, the ending of the comic kinda sucked and the whole thing needs to be soft rebooted at least in either comic or otherwise.

Josh seems like the kind of overly cynical and self entitled pop culture journalist who wouldn't hesitate to give low ratings or mandatory 8.8s, when off the job it's his way of using that for his shitty, untrained writing or shilling out for his wallet and/or series and franchises he is a part of. This is also more common than anyone thinks, and I'm not just talking about something current either.

@@scarfguy5337 Even so, I think what the creator was trying to portray is that, during that period, it was not uncommon for these kinds of... essentially toxic friendships to exist, since people had a much more limited pool to choose from in order to create an "in group."

It's kind of fucked up that Bill's Spanish voice actor has been accused of harassing female co-workers and taking pictures of them with hidden cameras. I mean, when I first heard it I thought his voice was suitable for a character like Bill because he sounded more aggressive in certain scenes than English. But man, the voice actor really got into character ☠

Bill reminds me of those particular people who believe they're the boss of everything and know more than you. They lack manners, don't know how to be reasonable, and are obsessed with things they like the most. There was a RUclipsr who used to do Anime/Manga reviews and he looks somewhat like Bill and boy, he fell apart just like Bill in the comics

Wouldn’t expect the two of them to run that fast considering what the two does on a daily basis.
Being friends with these guys would be a literal nightmare. (The only exception being Jerry.)
I'm not going to lie, even though he's a total asshole by the end of the comic, I still feel a little sorry for Bill and the rest of his old gang, except for Jerry who stepped up and turned his life around for the better. To tell the truth I respect Dorkin's decision to give Bill a fateful ending, but at least I would have liked to see him in a redemption arc that would allow him to see himself developed as a character, the same for the rest of the club.
Sounds more like you feel pityful towards Bill rather than sorry. It's comprehensible but people like Bill exists in real life, and at that point of adulthood, if you keep following the snob trail of bitterness and hate against all that you think is peasant, with no signs of mind-changing, It is more likely to have a bad ending. Bill ended the way It ended cuz he doesnt(or didnt want to) realize how of a dickhead he was behaving towards people, and he keep thinking that way even entering adulthood
Only one I feel had a redemption arc outside of Jerry is Josh tbh. Pete is pretty much implied to sexually abuse actresses aswell as his industry as a whole, Bill is Bill, but Josh and his dream job at least don’t really harm anyone. He’s still a damm asshole, but at least he has something to work for in his life
If this pilot show got greenlit, they would've made some slight changes and maybe give a good ending or something

What i noticed straight away was how much more likable they tried to make Bill in this pilot along with trying to make him the lead character, if he was meant to be the protagonist i can understand why he's made to be "nicer" compared to his completely evil and insane comic version. A mean and nasty main character is kinda meh.
they toned everything down tbh. I understand they toned down the art to make it easier on the animators but they’re overall a lot cutier and fluffier looking in this pilot.

This plot was about feuding and fighting, I'm glad this never became an official show because it shows how ridiculous and terrible nerd culture is, its sad when a tight nit group doesn't get along together and it breaks my heart to watch.😔
