It seems to be a legitimate question, since the specific word used in Hebrew from what I’ve heard, means the death penalty. If the slave is beaten and dies, the slave owner will be killed as punishment, and if the slave does not die, he will not get the death penalty. Will he be punished in other ways? Who knows.

@DrJames Powers Magic is a supernatural force. Nothing you listed is a supernatural force. It's what cells have in their processes. Quantum Fluctuations, nothing comes from something. I've told you this several times. Natural causes dont need a intelligent mind to happen. The big bang was an expansion of singularities, not a small dot. It took billions of years for the earth to form, and the cell to "diversify" DNA into 10 million other species. This isn't magic. This is nature. Not to mention, that the cell doesnt need a mind.
@DrJames Powers Finite nature was created at the big bang. "At this time, the Big Bang, all the matter in the universe, would have been on top of itself. The density would have been infinite. It would have been what is called, a singularity. At a singularity, all the laws of physics would have broken down. This means that the state of the universe, after the Big Bang, will not depend on anything that may have happened before, because the deterministic laws that govern the universe will break down in the Big Bang. The universe will evolve from the Big Bang, completely independently of what it was like before. Even the amount of matter in the universe, can be different to what it was before the Big Bang, as the Law of Conservation of Matter, will break down at the Big Bang." -Stephen Hawking. Also, you have done nothing to prove your "Infinite god" . You saying he is the cause of everything isn't proof. And, just because something looks intelligently made, doesnt mean it is. Infinite density, all of the matter in the universe would have been on top of each other. The density would have been infinite. It would have been, what is called, a singularity. (Paragraph above)

If anyone else is interested in other mentions of slavery, here are a few more if anyone decides to say the Bible never mentions this...... 1 Corinthians 7:21 - Were you a slave when you were called? Don’t let it trouble you-although if you can gain your freedom, do so. 1 Peter 2:18 - Slaves, in reverent fear of God submit yourselves to your masters, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh. 1 Timothy 6:1 - All who are under the yoke of slavery should consider their masters worthy of full respect, so that God’s name and our teaching may not be slandered. Colossians 3:22 - Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. Exodus 21:32 - If the bull gores a male or female slave, the owner must pay thirty shekels of silver to the master of the slave, and the bull is to be stoned to death. Leviticus 25:39 - If any of your fellow Israelites become poor and sell themselves to you, do not make them work as slaves. Titus 2:9-10 - Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to try to please them, not to talk back to them, 10 and not to steal from them, but to show that they can be fully trusted, so that in every way they will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive. Luke 12:47-48 - The servant who knows the master’s will and does not get ready or does not do what the master wants will be beaten with many blows. 48 But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked. Leviticus 25:44-46 - Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. 45 You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. 46 You can bequeath them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly. Ephesians 6:5-9 - Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. 6 Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart. 7 Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people, 8 because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good they do, whether they are slave or free. 9 And masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Do not threaten them, since you know that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with him. Deuteronomy 15:12-18 - If any of your people-Hebrew men or women-sell themselves to you and serve you six years, in the seventh year you must let them go free. 13 And when you release them, do not send them away empty-handed. 14 Supply them liberally from your flock, your threshing floor and your winepress. Give to them as the LORD your God has blessed you. 15 Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and the LORD your God redeemed you. That is why I give you this command today. 16 But if your servant says to you, “I do not want to leave you,” because he loves you and your family and is well off with you, 17 then take an awl and push it through his earlobe into the door, and he will become your servant for life. Do the same for your female servant. 18 Do not consider it a hardship to set your servant free, because their service to you these six years has been worth twice as much as that of a hired hand. And the LORD your God will bless you in everything you do.
Huh. Timothy 6:1 and Titus 2:10 are interesting. They're basically saying the slave should try and pretend to be happy, because otherwise it would show God and/or God's teachings are wrong.

The Old Testament is God's word. Exodus 21, slavery is morally acceptable. God's morality and caller's morality are in conflict. The tap-dancing begins....
I like what Matt said sarcastically one time on AE: "It's not really slavery... it's happy-feel-good slavery!" The mental gymnastics that apologists have to do to justify the bible as being all moral is amazing.
@DrJames Powers Bullshit. You're as morally bankrupt as your holy book is. Even Paul said "Slaves, be beholden/subject to your masters" in Ephesians AND in 1 Peter. Just because Yahweh supposedly delivered the Canaanites from Egypt (an event debunked by Archeology, by the way) doesn't mean that he was opposed to slavery. It just means that he plays favorites. It wasn't that he was opposed to slavery, it just means that he was opposed to his favorite sheep herders being enslaved. You haven't debunked shit. You're just rationalizing in your own head that your book has some pretty reprehensible atrocities in it. Don't believe me, let's get off of slavery and just talk about cruelty to children. Psalms 137-9: Blessed is he who takes and dashes your little ones against the rocks. Elisha in 2 Kings 2-23 and 24 where he gets teased by kids and he has bears come out and maul them to death. Abraham willing to kill his own son at Yahweh's command in Genesis 22-1 thru 19. Abraham was going to go through with it, not knowing that he was being tested.

You know there will be no punishment if people perform their civic duty. Call it being a Good Samaritan, or a good citizen, or whatever you want. If an individual has been punished for any ridiculous reason, then it is our duty to report it if we know about it. If no one was around, then the victim of said injustice must report it to the authorities immediately. If you read the 13th amendment you will see that there is a loophole that allows slavery to exist as a punishment for a crime. This loophole is the reason why the US has the largest per capita prison population in the world.

It seems to be a legitimate question, since the specific word used in Hebrew from what I’ve heard, means the death penalty. I love it when Christians admit their all-powerful god was powerless to change cultural norms. All the while not realizing they admitted it.
Next time just bring up judges 1:19 and see how that goes
Beau Wine that is pretty funny. Seems like a nice way to show a contradictory passage.
But why would an all-powerful God want to change something it created? It's already perfect.
Beau Wine I love how pretty much only the King James Version said “he couldn’t” every other translation says “they couldn’t” An all powerful being who’s defenseless against iron? I guess that was one of the few errors (among many) that the modern Christians caught and corrected.
Of course God is all powerful. And it might be good you are against slavery, but please look to our situation now. Girls are selling their body as slaves. Mothers sell their kids as porn for pedophiles. I sure hope you don't watch those programs on Internet!
And then we have the slaves working for Amazon, apple and other big earning companies where the directors swim in money and their slaves are fired when they can earn more by moving their factories to another country.
The good thing is that the Bible tries to regulate that. Take care of your slaves.
God is powerful, but this world of money will always enslave others to get richer.
It was not that way in paradise. It's our own fault. We broke God's laws.
And God lets us live with the results in the hope we will give up our own will and start doing His will.

@DrJames Powers So obviously fiction.....there is no independent corroborating accounts to these 'stories'.
@DrJames Powers Also, spouting a paragraph of bullshit isn't exactly winning an argument. You said once before, that you're a scientist. Yet, you go against everything science has discovered? And, apparently, you figured all this "science" out that just somehow can prove a God. You're a Pseudo scientist. Everything you say would be refuted by an actual scientist who works in the field you're arguing on.

I think one of the most impressive things that Priests and preachers have been able to do is convince people that morality comes from religion. People actually believe that if there was no religion there would be no morality. Even though morality predates religion by many thousands of years. I am not talking about Christianity - I am saying morality predates even the first religions created 50, 60, 70 thousand years ago.

I like what Matt said sarcastically one time on AE: "It's not really slavery... it's happy-feel-good slavery!"
The mental gymnastics that apologists have to do to justify the bible as being all moral is amazing.

You know, the public thesis that everyone earning a doctorate must write.
So add "lier" to your list.
@@TheFunGun5 He got his doctorate from the same place that Kent Hovind got his, by mail order.
@DrJames Powers Nice gish gallop. Really classy. Also nice shit loads of lies and assumptions.
But I digress, provide a link to your doctoral thesis. It should be easy since your a "doctor" and all. /s
Well christians get pissed off when we proove them wrong
ziggy the cub Some lose their shit!
This encounter should be played on National Television
This show NEEDS to be national!!!
If I can't use a modern lens to view the Bible, then why should I use the Bible as a lens to view the modern world? On a personal note, Matt is the reason why I walked away from religion after many years of doubting and questioning I came to the conclusion it's fake and immoral, but Matt really put the final nail in the coffin, and I'm glad for people like him.
The 'Slavery' conversation gets em EVERY time.... Well Done AE....
@DrJames Powers - Did your Sky Daddy tell you to say that to me in a dream?
@DrJames Powers Then pedophilia can be allowed too, by your reasoning if the child approves it. You didn't debunk shit.
Anybody with brains and intestinal fortitude *KNOWS* that slavery is dead-wrong, no matter what his "bible" says to him.
@DrJames Powers Shut up. I just bought you and will beat you if you speak again. When I die , my kid will do the same
Apart from incorrect, what do you mean by "wrong"?
You have absolutely no idea whatsoever? - No surprises there.
"Let me just cherry pick what I want the bible to say...."
Ask him if he thinks that worshipping a god that allows himself to be a slave is worthy of worshipping.
My goodness he is a typical example of how a strong believe in anything blocks people from having simple common sense!
Three RATIONAL human beings that I totally admire, smart human beings!!!
It's like talking into a dead phone.
Jesus and St. Paul never corrected the verses in Exodus about slavery, what we were taught in church about Jesus was so wrong (about God being a caring and loving being). Wow you guys know how to drive home your argument!!!
No need for a Devil when you got Christians Around , There goes half their Religion . Christianity destroyed in one sentence .
This is one of their most important and impactful videos
It doesn't matter how many times it happens, I will always enjoy it when a caller comes in with a bunch of assumptions and a script thinking that they are about to get one over on one of the hosts and then immediately get thrown off their script because the didn't get the answers they were fishing for and flounder around because they have nothing else after that.
"But that was because god was teaching people from a different time in a way people from that time could best understand"
Or...or MAYBE...just MAYBE! ...all holy scripture is man made and that's why the ignorance within all holy scripture PERFECTLY reflects mans ignorance at the time said scripture was written ...just maybe.
The mental gymnastics is just amazing
Christians: The Bible is the true word of God and it is a book for all time.
Also Christians: Oh no. That part there about (fill in the blank) is being taken out of context for that time period.
A few weeks ago I was talking with a JW and he said, "What's wrong with slavery? I'm a slave to Jehovah." As a side note the guy was black.
It was extremely frustrating that he wouldn’t answer the question, but I liked that they didn’t let the caller get away with it.
Why is it so hard for these people to condemn slavery and beating them?
Olympic gold standard mental gymnastics
Heyyyy mah boi CosmicSkeptic is with mah boy Matt Dillhaunt!
I love all the guest Matt brings on the show over the years TBH
Slavery is immoral.
Yahweh approves of slavery.
Yahweh is immoral.
Yahweh aka God is an evil asshole
Truly truly sad. I am in sincere pain watching this man suffer like that. A victim of poison to the point of complete denial of reality. You know how much pain the human mind is in when it reaches this level of denialism?
This is exactly why I formed SOGO Academics smh. To prevent this infectious poison from spreading any further. I hope one of his loved ones, who recognized the pain he was in, gave him a hug.
These guys are great guests! Hope to see them more.
Waw. This guy is utterly ridiculous. People like this actually exist.
And a lot of them are in power.
What if someday we found out that the Bible was only meant as an early version of "50 Shades Of Gray". And people just took it TOO seriously.
LOL.
Never seen Rationality Rules before. Have to check him out.
It's even worse in most translations "if he continue a day or two, he shall not be punished: for he is his money", which means even if the slave dies after one or two days, the slave owner will not be punished.
Money property kinda similar
A disgraceful example of a theist beating about the bush.
I witnessed a theist being beaten, nary a bush to be seen.
Hope the bush didn't lose an eye or a tooth.
Three legends in one room.
I dare this caller to walk up to any soldier currently serving and tell them that they’re his property.
4 yrs later and this thought process makes a lot of current events make a little more sense. The lunacy of racism is wild
The passage from "exodus" that Alex said is really Lev 25:44-46.
Due to the its content, the bible should be age restricted. The material inside is not suited for children.
LOL BibleHub!!!
@DrJames Powers ALL religious "facts" have already been debunked, you just dont want to accept it. Your purpose in life is to love God? You should aim higher. I dont blame you, I think, that you were severely indoctrinated as a child. You are a victim, like it or not. It is horrifying to read that you consider life to be worthless and that you think yourself incapable to find a purpose in life other than worship. Dont you have any dignity? Self value?
Omg. I can't believe yall are sitting with Matt!!! So happy ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️😍 Rationality Rules and Cosmic Skeptic y'all so cute ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
2 excellent co-hosts. love these 2 young men. while they are respectful, they don't seem intimidated by matt. good job guys !
And remember people: all of this is the word of the all loving and perfect god we should all be worshiping
Thank God I'm atheist 🙌
If you take the Bible literally it should taken as written. Otherwise it is not true.
@S. Gloobal how is not "oppressive slavery" your just like the caller and most Christians
Exactly, these believers wanna believe the Bible is great, then they need to accept the evil crap their imaginary friend does and quit being spoon fed the rainbows and happiness BS every week from some guy who thinks he knows the Bible.
Community service doesn’t equate to slavery. Ditto serving in the military. Ditto being a prisoner. What a tool.
Although I’m a year late, the second I saw cosmic skeptic, I clicked.
OMG my 3 favourite atheist youtubers in one episode; there is a god after all
love seeing cosmic skeptic on here, so fitting
See, told you guys that S. Gloobal deletes his account anytime he gets schooled. He did it again.
Diviance yes he does, I had the displeasure of ‘debating’ him and ‘Doctor’ Powers. At least S.Gloobal deletes his BS.
@@AC-gb7do
I saw him do it twice tonight alone. It was pretty funny.
And Powers is so deluded.
Diviance Powers is another level of stupidity.
Tap, tap, tap... Tap, tap, tap... dance around sla-ver-y. 🎶🎵
Three of my favorite atheists are in the program today. I love them.
ohhhh the tap dance.....i hate hate hate the tap dance!!!😂
Hi Ashley!!!! I like your doggie!!
Thor Stambaugh thank you!
Get into the history? Isn’t gods word supposed to be infallible and timeless?
Only when it suits them....
So happy to have seen my boy Alex on the show.
Cosmic Skeptic, Rationality Rules and Matt Dillahunty??!!?!?
Now that’s a holy trinity right there.
Matt texting as he explains why slavery is bad lol Jeff agrees with the slave masters
I think he was looking up Bible verses
A great line-up.
Speaking of "banned" books, wasn't the book "To Kill A Mockingbird" banned? That was a darn good book and movie.
It was taken out of a lot of school curriculums, it wasn’t banned.
Damn right though, great book and adaption.
It blows my mind that in 2019 we are still having this argument.
20 “Anyone who beats their male or female slave with a rod must be punished if the slave dies as a direct result, 21 but they are not to be punished if the slave recovers after a day or two, since the slave is their property.
The caller argues choosing slavery over imprisonment, as punishment, due to criminal behavior-Is biblical slavery criminal based?
The problem with entire argument, is that is was oriented around the beating aspect of slavery, when the slavery itself is the problem-Being the reason for the beatings.
TheUnholiness Within
Agree !!! In fact ban the whole book it creates in a persons mind a guilt that if your not up to par many will kill themselves it’s sick
@@jogriffin9347 Well, banning religious scripture is useless because people agree with it, making it psychological. People either agree with it (unless they're brainwashed), or they use it for their own benefit.
TheUnholiness Within
I’ve always said if u can get rid of religions and the book then u would have anarchy... I think 50 years later it would be a new a smarter generation of atheist that don’t believe in fairytales which in turn should make the world better
DrJames Powers
U never address my points.. How can atheism be fairytales? Your bible advocates murder rape incest slavery and killing innocent animals for blood scent .. The Facts are in your book !! Read your book... Oh wait , u skip over the parts you don’t want to know haha !! Don’t worry I was like you once ..
