Thank you for this info. I still can't figure out how to offer different shipping costs with different products and not have them all listed at checkout. How can I have my notecards (for example)come up with one shipping cost option at check out? or for my paintings or prints Or Should I have a flat rate for every purchase to make it easy and eat any additional costs? Thanks so much for any help with this
Is it possible to charge different shipping rates per product. I sell art... so for example i can sell a framed piece of art work which would cost x amount per item. However if im selling just prints i could incorporate that into one package so the shipping would be x amount per order. I cant find a way to have a system like this in squarespace.
I use the shipping by weight as a workaround to accomplish that... so set the weight of your framed pieces higher than just your prints and then in the shipping rates, set those by weights according to how you've set your product weight. I'd also recommend leaving some buffer incase someone orders 2 prints and you don't want that to add up to the same rate as 1 framed piece. Does that make sense??
Hello Catherine, I’m hoping to have some help on shipping cost for my square space and I’m so confused because I’m only able to pick flat rate and I don’t have the last plan. I only have basic commercial. I’m hoping that you’ll be able to see this and I could get some help thank you

It really depends on what the person/warehouse team wants to see on their end (or whoever it is that will be fulfilling the orders). Just based on your comment it sounds like it might cause some confusion if you're having multiple people manage one list of orders though, regardless of shipping rates.
@@KatherineForbes It doesn't create much confusion because there will be a back-end team working on it. I am wondering if it is possible to implement it on Squarespace itself. I couldn't find any other leads to use different shipping rates for different objects that have the same weight.
Hi Katherine I sell Salsa jars are glass and weigh 15oz, my question is how do I determine the flat rate, how do you calculate the per order fee and fee per item, Im confused as how to obtain that information. Do I have to go to USPS so they tell me?
The number doesn't have to be exact. It would be helpful if you get amounts from USPS for shipping 1, 2, 3... so you know what to expect, then add in a little more for packaging. If you set weights for your products and then if someone orders 2, the weight will be 30oz and you can have rules in your shipping for 15oz, 30oz, 45oz... so the shipping rates will calculate themselves based on how many items people order.
How do you know what shipping rates depending on products weights. I want to have a set price for all customers? Or let the customer know based on the weight of their particular package
If you'd prefer to have the set rate I'd recommend using flat rate instead of by weight. And you can either have your items/packaging measured at the post office to get exact rates (plus add some to cover cost of shipping materials) or just guestimate and adjust if needed. Doesn't have to be exact, it's just to cover your cost!
Isn’t there supposed to be sales tax applied for each state shipped to? (Possibly international taxes and tariffs!) How do I learn how Squarespace does this? I can’t find any answers. I don’t know who’s going to buy something from where so it’s got to be automatic in the site, right? I’d be selling physical objects. I charge local sales tax in person.
Hey! Ok so when you go into the Commerce section from the main sidebar, scroll down and almost at the bottom you'll find the Taxes section. You'll have to set a lot of individual rates, but that's how you do it. I'm by no means a tax professional but just for reference, none of the clients (100+) I've done sites for have added taxes to their online products (that doesn't mean you can't/shouldn't).
The space to add the weight is right next to where you add the pricing. And yes - all the weights (if someone orders various items) will add up and automatically put them in the appropriate shipping rate at checkout :-)
@@KatherineForbes I dont seem to have any option to add weights to my products. Hi! Thanks for the video. We are setting up our squarespace website and will be selling books, shirts, and stickers. Do you know if there is a way to provide the option of Media Mail for orders that only include books? Any advice would be great. Thanks!
Hey Lacey - I've never seen a specific media mail option on the backend but if you set up shipping costs by weight, you can set the books at the media mail rate manually by setting the books in a different weight range than shirts.
Not that I know of... but maybe a workaround could be to set those higher price items a 0lbs and then do shipping by weight and have those 0-0.05lb items have a $0 shipping?
Actually! Someone just asked me this same Q via email and when I thought about it again, this is possible using the COMMERCE plan. When you create a Discount Code, you can set it to be automatic and set it to apply to orders over a certain price. :-)
Hi there! I'm wondering what the best way to set up shipping would be for ceramics, where I'm selling a huge variety of different sized and shaped products. I'm getting tripped up because just listing weight doesn't always cut it. So I really need to input weight and box size. But then if someone buys more than one thing the shipping cost shouldn't double ... I'm a bit stuck on it! Would SO appreciate any advice you have.
This is an interesting situation! I don't actually put the weights on products because of their exact weight - I do it by how much I want the shipping for that item to cost. So for example: 0-1lb = $5 1-2lb = $7 2-3lb = $8 etc. Then if someone orders a CD (which I mark at 0.7lb), they hit the lowest rate. If 2 CDs then $7 shipping (not doubled to $10). If they order a CD and t-shirt (which I set at 1.5), it just adds up to the $8 shipping range. The ability to customize is a good thing! Shipping rates are going to be different depending on what you ship, where you ship from & to, how fast you want it to get there, the type of packaging you use (don't forget to factor in your packaging material into the shipping cost too - not just the literal shipping amount). Flat vs weight is up to you! If you have a lot of the same type of product, flat rate might work... if you sell various types of products (for example I work a lot with musicians so a CD is a lot cheaper to package and ship than a vinyl is) shipping by weight is helpful so CD customers aren't overpaying / vinyl customers aren't underpaying with a flat rate. Does that help??

Is it possible to assign a shipping rule to a certain product or certain group of products based on Tags? For example: Cellphones - Free Shipping, Tablets - Flat Rate $12.00 ?
Hey! Not that I know... but you could probably get away with this by doing ship by weight and give cellphones 0.0 weight and set $0 shipping for 0.0-0.5lbs. Then Tablets could weigh 5lbs and you could set the 5+lbs shipping rate at $12. (Add product weight in "pricing and variants" tab of setting up your product. Hope this helps!
You can with a Commerce plan, but with just a Business plan you can do shipping by weight by state. Commerce > Shipping > Add Shipping Option > Depending on Weight > set Name & $ in "Formula" then in the "Shipping Zones" tab select United States > once you do that, you'll see the option to Edit and from there you can filter by state or zip code.

I've finished setting up my art website and I'm happy with how it turned out. Have you heard of having to pay sales tax on shipping? I wonder if the shipping cost was just tucked into the core price of something- if that would avoid having to deal with a separate sales tax for shipping...
With sales tax being different in each state, I'm not sure there's a good overall advice on this! If there is, I'm not sure what it would be haha I'm just the girl who sets it up on the backend ;-)
Hello, I'm a bit confused. How would you know which carrier to use for shipping if you do calculated shipping? Also, are you coming up with random prices for the shipping.?
Most of the clients I work with ship their own merch through the post office so I recommend that you weigh you items at the post office (or wherever you're shipping) to get a price and then add a little extra on to cover the price of the packaging. Shipping costs on your website don't have to be the exact cost that you're charged at the PO, UPS, etc.
The Flat Rate setup doesn't quite work as described (although it should!). For an order of one item, Squarespace applies BOTH the Per Order Fee AND the Fee Per Item. Example: You want to charge $5 shipping for a single coffee mug, then $2 for more for each mug added to the order. That's not possible. Squarespace sees it as BOTH an order and an item...so your single mug customers are charged $7. Very frustrating! Solutions are welcome!
When someone order something there is a number and it says US PS is that a number we take to the post office and give them and it counts towards shipping just a bit confused
Not really sure what you're referring to? But no, setting up shipping costs on your website like I show in this video has nothing to do with USPS credits of any kind. Shipping costs are determined by you to cover shipping and shipping materials!
Hello Katherine thank you so much for your Helpful videos! I was wondering, how would you go about "Inquire for Shipping" options for Large items? Also, once the customer checks out, can they decide to ship or pick up in store if Local? Thank You!!
Thanks! For local pick up, I'd recommend following these instructions: support.squarespace.com/hc/en-us/articles/207100347-In-store-pickup ... and for larger items you could use the same method since it allows you to specify shipping prices per state. Might be tedious to set up but solve your problem?
Katherine Forbes yes I actually found that as well searching. How would you go about adding options like, pick up in store, Delivery, and then Shipping? So if I made my Flat Rate to In store only, then I would have only another option for Shipping by weight...but how would I put in there delivery? Thank you so much btw for helping us out. There's not a feature to get that specific, but I do have a workaround I explain here in this video: ruclips.net/video/ESLczObJkDs/видео.html
Thank you for your video! The squarespace shipping options are a bit tedious for me, I am just getting used to them. I have a question, is there a way to add upgraded shipping? I ship from Colombia to the USA and I have 2 shipping options a standard one and an express delivery option (that is much more expensive). I want to offer both of these to my US customers but I don't know how I can do this on squarespace. Thanks in advance for any insight!
You can set shipping rates depending on country!
Can you do shipping by ZIP Code by weight
You can with a Commerce plan, but with just a Business plan you can do shipping by weight by state.
Commerce > Shipping > Add Shipping Option > Depending on Weight > set Name & $ in "Formula" then in the "Shipping Zones" tab select United States > once you do that, you'll see the option to Edit and from there you can filter by state or zip code.
thanks
Katherine, I only sell one product. I would like to offer free shipping to anyone in the U.S. and bill international according to there location. How do I set this up?
You can set up 2 shipping by weight options... one for the US with $0.00 rate, and another for "the rest of the world" at your preferred rates!
This is super helpful, thank you!
So glad to hear! Best of luck setting up your store!
Katherine Forbes ☺️🖤 thanks queen!
I've finished setting up my art website and I'm happy with how it turned out. However, now that I'm trying to add the commerce piece I can't figure out how to do the shipping costs with the regular business plan. Art can vary so much in size and weight. Each piece is unique and I'm wondering if this is even possible now. Do you have any suggestions? Is there some third party app that would help? Thanks so much.
Here's a link to my video where I explain a few workarounds to this problem that I use - ruclips.net/video/ESLczObJkDs/видео.html
As far as a 3rd party app, I'm not sure of any!
giiiiirl THANK YOU
thanks this was super helpful
So glad!
What are the fees if I sell tshirts on my Squarespace site? Is there a fee for processing and payment?
Transaction fees depend on what Squarespace plan you're on! www.squarespace.com/pricing (99% of my clients are on the Business plan with the 3% fee)
Very helpful , thank you
Hello, I'm a bit confused.
Would this work for squareup as well
Squarespace only accepts Square payments for in-person transactions, so technically you won't need shipping costs for Square purchases.
Thanks this help so much 👌🏽
So glad to hear :-)
This helps me out so much
Hello Katherine thank you so much for your Helpful videos!
Those are advanced options and I’m showing it only is able to add two options for shipping, is that right? So if I made my Flat Rate to In store only, then I would have only another option for Shipping by weight...but how would I put in there delivery? Thank you so much btw for helping us out. Small business and such during these times xoxo you’re awesome ✊
@@jzimuzic have you gotten this figured out? Are you offering pick up and delivery both for free? I'd say make it ONE shipping rate, but add a form to the products to ask people about their choice? Never seen it only let you have two options but also don't usually mix flat rate with weight options either.
Katherine Forbes thank you I ended up doing that as the pick up/Delivery nearby free in the same option. Then my next option would be to ship by weight. Thank you 🖤💚
How do I take my name off the shipping label? Company’s name is already on there;
It's most likely pulling from the Business/Site Settings of your website
so helpful!!!
Thank you!
Yes of course - thanks for watching :-)
Thank you so much!!!
Why doesn’t anyone have a tutorial on real-time shipping 😫
Sorry! I like for shipping costs to cover packaging pricing, so I don't want/need an exact shipping rate for that reason.
Very helpful, thank you
