  • In 2006, the Metrostars re-branded to Redbull New York, much to the dismay of many of their fans. However, now more than a decade since the switch, the team is more successful than it ever has been. This video looks back to that time.

    7:30 Bayer Leverkusen didn’t get its name because it is sponsored by Bayer, as a big fan I should know this, it got its name because the workers asked the company to help them form a team, it’s named Bayer because it was founded by Bayer. RB Salzburg should’ve been your go to club for that( or Bayer Uerdingen Which is now KFC Uerdingen due to the 50+1 rule and Bayer stopped sponsoring them).

    • @3dsaulgoodman43

      What's your opinion on the 50+1 rule?

    • @Squirrelanditsnutz
      @Squirrelanditsnutz 4 года назад

      Agent P I fucking hate it. It’s not strict enough to corporations, it lets clubs like RB Leipzig and Hoffenheim exists, and lets clubs like Bayern win all the time. To me, football is for the fans, and therefore giving corporations nearly fifty percent of control is a big Nono. I believe that all clubs should be non-profits catered to the fans. A corporation can own a club, but it cannot interact with it and it need to be founded by its workers (like Wolfsburg and Volkswagen and Leverkusen and Bayer). I like Bayer in this regard, although the company has done several dumb things in the past (no, you cannot drink round up), but they haven’t turned Bayer 04 into a man city or PSG type club. The 50+1 rule is flawed, but I prefer it to uncontrolled capitalism that most leagues go for, you can be lucky and have an owner like the timbers (best team in the mls and my second most favorite club) who’s really community oriented, but you could also get owners like Mike Ashley from NUFC. Another problem with this system is that; who the hell would want to buy Bury? Also, back in ‘02 (when I was 0 y/o) a player like Ballack costed Bayern 6 million euros (that would be 8 mil nowadays), now a player like Jordon Ibe is worth 16.5 million euros. A player who’s scored 11 goals in his whole career is worth double prime Ballack? Footballs inflation is getting out of hand. This is all due to lack of control on FIFAs part, but they won’t do anything, they love money.
      Anyway, in conclusion 50+1 is shit, but everything else in use by the five major leagues is shitter.

    6:30 Millonarios de Colombia jugando con MetroStars por la Copa Mercosur del 2001. Que buenos tiempos. Que nostalgia me trae recordar cuando la CONMEBOL invitaba a equipos de la MLS a jugar torneos de la CONMEBOL como la Copa Mercosur 2001 y la Copa Sudamericana del 2005 y 2007.
    Una pena que la CONMEBOL ya no permitiera equipos Mexicanos en la Copa Sudamericana, y luego los mexicanos se retiren de la Copa Libertadores por problemas con el nuevo formato del calendario.
    Trás el éxito de la Copa América Centenario 2016 en Estados Unidos, fue sorpresiva la inmediata ruptura entre la CONMEBOL y Estados Unidos y México.
    Era una buena idea incluir equipos Mexicanos y de la MLS jugando torneos de la CONMEBOL.

    Maybe I’m wrong but I cannot possibly ever associate myself with a club named after a corporation. It just feels so dumb. Could you imagine an entire league of this? “I support the Tucson McDonalds”. MLS cup final “Buffalo Coca Cola Club vs. New Orleans MasterCard” it’s just ridiculous.

      @alternatehistorysports 4 года назад +1

      Yeah I felt that way too, but when you think about it football clubs are just corporate entities anyway, they already have sponsors, and owners who have money from other businesses. So I think that Red Bull clubs and city group clubs feel contrived, but at the same time it becomes part of their identity as fans of other teams will laugh at them for it, and they will defend their club. In cases like Metrostars it's interesting that the identity of the club remains even after the original corporation has gone bust. There will be a whole generation of young kids who will learn about Red Bull the football club before they are aware of the adult/ teen energy drink (hopefully!)

    Seriously, I want that stadium filled up every game and not just in the Playoffs, also if they can put the prices down for membership that would be great
