    I have this car and have always had manuals....but this CVT is FANTASTIC.

    This is better than the other CVTs I drove. It is tuned to function like a manual/automatic, you get engine braking on down shift if you want. Great handling. For the money, great car.!

    Great job! I've had my 2015 CVT since Sept 2014 and love it. I live in the Bay Area and traffic is usually terrible - so driving a manual transmission is a real burden most of the time. My last Subaru was the 2005 WRX STi and it was hellish to drive in traffic. When I want to have fun I use the paddle shifters in S mode and it's awesome. The only downside to the CVT is the uncertainty about how much extra load it can handle if you mod your car (and I have not done anything to mine). For the REAL MEN DRIVE STICKS crowd - get over it. There's a reason Ferrari just announced they're stopping production of manual transmissions.

      Meh. The wrx has such a light clutch it is a non issue for me. Sure it is "more effort" but I like that in my car. I have a corolla also so I can switch out if I don't feel like doing anything. Personal preference really.

    In intelligent mode my gas last me 2 weeks before it's at half tank. I drive every day to work a total of 20 miles back and forth and every once in a while I switch modes I hav da cvt also. I love this car glad I bought it.

      georgiaboi808 im now considering the CVT choice on it does it feel any different from the manual ? what I mean is does it feel like a WRX? my work driving distance can vary I live in Colorado, sometimes my job requires me to drive an hour or more away and back everyday. and traffic can suck heading out from work it takes me an hour or more. the WRX and STI are one of my favorite cars and have been my dream car since I first saw those 05s, and I just found out about the CVT would you recommend ?

    • @JayL-vw2ie
      @JayL-vw2ie 7 лет назад +1

      georgiaboi808 I have the CVT from my experience there's two major difference between cvt and Manual:
      CVT: shifts smooth in all drive modes, turbo spools at 2,500rpm
      manual: sloppy shift (needs a shift lock), turbo spools at 4,000rpm
      I've never driven the manual but done extensive research (via RUclips and fourms) both are excellent cars but, like the video says the CVT in high traffic areas is much better IMO.

    • @RedneckPCtech
      @RedneckPCtech 7 лет назад +1

      The manual gets better mpg and better acceleration. Both cars turbo hit at 2500 RPM, the sti has the lag and 4k RPM turbo hit. The stock shifter s meh but I have a 2017 WRX Premium 6M with sti short throw and love it.

    Test drove one yesterday with the CVT. I really like stick but after my test drive I want the CVT. The stick is fun when your out driving on back roads but once you hit traffic forget about it. You have to test drive this before you hate on the CVT.

    As someone who never owned an automatic until now ( wrx limited with eyesight) it's a pretty good car . The car I traded in for the wrx was a 13 focus ST . Now the 2 negatives with the wrx is brakes and suspension. If you are take a turn at high speed make sure it's on a smooth road if not the car gets jittery so look out for that . Thank you for the review

    just bought my 2017 WRX(CVT) 7 hours ago, it had 4 Miles on it. I didn't expect to go in and trade my car in so fast after test driving. my purchase was the limited, Ice Silver. the fact my wife can drive it, and it has all the bells and whistles I wanted we are truly happy with our purchase. I brought it home as a surprise and she was blown away, when she test drive it. she drives an automatic 2014 GTI btw as her daily. she loved it, said it was like a giant go cart. cheers brotha

    I just bought a 2019 WRX LIMITED CVT about a week ago. In that short amount of time, I have fallen in love with this car. I have driven manuals all my life. But the wife wasn’t having it this time. So the CVT was the obvious choice for me. And I’m beyond happy with its performance. Since we live in Washington DC I have to admit, I’m so much happier with the automatic transmission. I got the “24” package. Which is the Harmon Kardon 400 watt stereo and just about every option they offer. IMO, if you have the funds it is absolutely worth springing the extra $$$ for all the goodies. If your thinking you may need an automatic but don’t want to sacrifice all the fun of a manual, the WRX CVT is a definite must. At the bare minimum, test drive one before you buy anything else.

    Your review helped me make a decision on my 2019 WRX, in CVT! I was hesitant at first, but knew it was the right chioce as soon as I test drove it. It may not be able to make as much power as the Manual version after many mods, but I dont plan on racing this car. Its just my daily that I get to have fun in whenever I can. Thanks again for the thorough review.

    Why do so many people apologize for the auto trans? They are nothing like they used to be. I started driving and buying cars in the 70's -80's and my first car was a Datsun roadster. I don't know if you could buy a auto in those old Datsuns... plus you wouldn't want one because they only had 150 horse power...I think it was the opposite in years past where it would be unusual to find the automatic in any sports car but these new cars are incredibly sophisticated with all sorts of modes and sensors that make the driving experience like no other. I would like to put this car "WRX" in sport mode and use the paddle shifters -listening to this wonderful engine...just because you don't push in a clutch who cares...Right now I have an auto BRZ that is awesome- it has a Torsen Transmission which is based on the Lexus gear box.. I can use the paddle shifters and red line every gear -even if your in auto mode and pushing the gas into a corner it has a yaw sensor to prevent an upshift. Great car that will be selling this march 2017 and will buy a WRX automatic --whaa!

    I test drove a CVT WRX the other day as I want to trade in my ‘12 Impreza towards one. Drove over an hour away as it was the closest cvt for sale that I could test... WOW was I impressed. The only thing I’ll miss about my current Impreza will be the smoother ride lol, small price to pay for the performance and FUN.

    This car is everything I have imagined in what I want and you expressed it well.
    For the record, some people, like myself, are tired of riding a clutch in Los Angeles everyday for the past 15 years and want something sporty where I can manually input which gear I want to be in, WITHOUT using a clutch!! (the awesome paddles).

    Fantastic video. Very happy about the new prevalence of adult opinions on the WRX CVT here on RUclips. As someone who commutes to work by car living in Northern New Jersey, driving a vehicle with a manual transmission as a daily-driver would be absolutely horrendous, although I'm sure some teenage boy racer will argue with me on this. As for the car, I'm a huge fan. I own a 2013 Impreza (I know...) wagon with a CVT and the transmission is honestly one of my favorite parts of the car aside from the brand's legendary AWD. It's a bit rubber-bandy when it "downshifts" automatically, but that's the worst of it. Manual mode with the paddle shifters is fantastic, however, especially considering we're talking about a glorified econo-box with AWD. I can only assume the WRX's CVT is even better.
    Hopefully Subaru brings back a WRX wagon with the next generation.

    I have a 2017 WRX Premium 6M with short throw and love it. I tried to get my wife to test drive the CVT and she said she would rather have a Legacy V6 instead of buying a WRX CVT. CVT WRX get good reviews and don't deserve the hate they receive. I enjoy the manual and feel it's much more engaging. I can see the benefit of CVT in heavy traffic. The manual gets more mpg better acceleration, is cheaper and higher resale than a comparable CVT.

    • @MoodMuzik9
      @MoodMuzik9 7 лет назад

      Cravin R1 I didn't know Manuals get higher resell? Unless you mod it. I see them like 2k resell difference to the Automatic. But I live in Australia, the CVT is more expensive than the Manual here.

    • @RedneckPCtech
      @RedneckPCtech 7 лет назад

      When purchasing new the CVT costs more. But when buying used the manual is more desired and holds its value better.

    • @29erfreak42
      @29erfreak42 7 лет назад

      I think that the resale value of the CVT is equal or grater than the MT. If you look at the new car market, CVT versions are much harder to find than MT. Most dealers have at least 5-10 MT on the lot, but usually only 1 or no CVTs. The relative rarity of them makes them more valuable. If you check Edmunds, the resale is the same for both versions

    • @RedneckPCtech
      @RedneckPCtech 7 лет назад

      Fewer CVT on lot cause lower demand for them. Lower demand for used CVT also. Most sports cars (mustangs, camaros, etc.) people are looking for the manual.

    • @29erfreak42
      @29erfreak42 7 лет назад

      Cravin R1 - I fail to see how the number of cars on the lot drives demand. In fact, the opposite may be more true. I am more likely to buy a car when there is only 1 or 2 that I like, than when there are dozens of them sitting around.
      Demand for cars is driven by the need for a car, the price of the car, advertising and many other things. The number of cars on the lot doesn't not affect demand.

Plus my wife is adamantly against wanting to learn how to drive a stick. I haven't driven the CVT yet, but your video sounds promising. Did you try playing with the equalizer? I thought the way it sounded from the factory was absolutely horrible but after playing with the eq and the fade I was able to get a little more surrounding sound rather than all up front. Still not great by any means but tolerable. However, like you mentioned, nobody purchases this car for its luxury. I probably don't have the most critical ear when it comes to sound. I don't really blast it either, with the 6MT I like to hear whats going on.

      Savage Grace this..i changed the eq and now is perfectly tolerable..

      jsutty I'm glad it worked. The only other annoyance is the sound of the blower motor coming from under the dash. I plan on addressing that soon. RUclipsr T-WRX came up with a great solution.

    I test drove a premium on Saturday. CVT and all. I now realised that they ripped me off. I only got to drive 1 mile and didn't get to experience the car.

      Most dealerships in my area do not even allow for test drives. They say that people wouldn't buy the vehicle is it has more than 10 miles on them. If I don't test drive one, how will I get to know what if feels like. If they don't allow you to test drive, great. Take your business to a dealership that will.

      GenoCope I think dealerships get cars just for test drives. My mum and I went to drive a Tesla once, we drove the Model X that had broken air suspension.

    For those that have the Harmon Kardon speakers, are they a considerable upgrade over the base models?

    • @JayL-vw2ie
      @JayL-vw2ie 7 лет назад

      DaBrowns33 with an aftermarket head unit I personally think it's worth it... the fujitsu head unit is shit and the Harmon sub is weak but the rest of the speakers really shine. reccomend the Kenwood DDX9903S or the DDX916WS. the WS will slide right in. the S needs spacers.

    I just bought this car last week and I absolutely love it. I keep hearing how bad the stereo is. Since I couldn't afford the Harmon kardon package , I had no choice . Can you tell me how I can improve the sound ? There's just no kind of bass :(

    I rather have a wrx Cvt han a slow econobox like a Corolla. Personally I dont think the extra money is worth the convenience of a cvt. Driving manual has become second nature to me

    For daily driving I think it's the best transmission for the job. It does wonders for fuel economy.

    Great review of the car. No time wasting BS.
    Do you know, if 2018 model will fix poor sound and loud interior and if automatic will mate with CVT or conventional gearbox. Thanks
