- I have been wanting to film this video for awhile now, but I was training new techs for the last few months and finally I am back to working solo. I would loved to have shared more, but I can't for obvious reasons. I also had another technologist sitting behind me working so I tried to be respectful and film when they weren't around or scanning their own patients! Some days do get pretty hectic and filled with more exciting exams and some days are chill. This day was chill 😂

Hi everyone I did a Q&A of the most asked questions for MRI/Radiology: ruclips.net/video/bv1BRAZHOuU/видео.html
If you have further q's please leave them on that video
Props to you going to work out after work. That’s motivation right there. Awesome vlog. It’s nice to see what a day at work is like for you❤
I’m usually so tired cos the shifts are long! I prefer going in the mornings but sometimes I can’t when I start the extra early hrs 🥹 & thank you! Wish I could show more but it’s really hard to 🥲
I'm currently in college to be an MRI tech, this video made excited to start my career.
That’s awesome! Stay focused, the light is at the end of the tunnel!
are you getting a degree or certificate??
You get a degree and you need a license like nursing
DOPE! this is a good career pathway for sure. I like the computers and gadgets and machinery that's really cool. the technology. and knowing how to use that highly technical cool stuff. i'm an X-RAY TECH student currently but one day want to get into the M.R.I. area.
You don’t have to get into MRI school once you get your XR license. Focus on your ARRT for XR and get into workplace that will cross train you into MRI! Then once you’re done with competencies you can take the ARRT for MR🙂
oh wow that's cool. im almost done with the G-E's im in A&P and English and intro into computers currently.. i just finished Medical terminology this past summer.. i took Psych- sociology-biology- SPeech- kinesiology courses. etc.. i have college algebra and Integration patient care next and then i start the D.M.I. program with clinicals. ( i'm in a community college in southern CA,) I had an M.R.I. for my knee like 6 months ago. and saw all the cool machinery and stuff it's pretty crazy.
thank you for helping me with good career advice. I super appreciate that. ALL OF THIS STUDYING AND STUDYING! ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY IS A BEAST!!!! ( But I love it) @@MimiLe
At least you worked out after work. Because I don't have the energy I notice. Thank you for the content ❤❤
Trust me most days I am exhausted and think about cancelling but I always feel happy that I went! You can do it too, just a little motivation is needed 😊 & thank you for watching!
@@MimiLe LOL a whole lot of motivation. But, you're right. I can try it again on Sunday afternoon. 💪🏾💪🏾 I'll come right back and whine
Need another longer vlog. Maybe a grwm for work. Your path and struggles to becoming a X-ray tech then to mri.
Hi! This was just meant to be a day in the life vlog not meant to be a whole explanation video. I did put some text on screen at the end of the video saying if there’s any additional qs please leave comments down below so if there’s something specific you’re more than welcome to comment. When I have time, I plan on answering qs in a different video that’s more dedicated for that.
@@MimiLe oh that’s fine I loved the video I was just making some suggestion for other videos in the future
Do you work weekends? Holidays? What’s the starting salary like?
Do you get a lot of downtown in MRI compared to Xray?
Hey Mimi! 😊 really good to see you~ hope you’ve been doing well 💕
Thanks Theresa I hope all is well with you too! ❤️
Hello, im 17 and im looking into doing a nuclear medicine technician program and would like any advice! Any tips would be much appreciated😇
If you had a hip replacement joints which I do, was told i can't have a MRI scans no more because of new type of mri machine 3.5 testla is not safe for me.
❤
hello! did you know that you wanted to do mri tech right away? or did you first pursue rad tech?
I did not know right away, I stumbled into it and so happy that I did!
Hello. I have a bachelors and want to get into MRI. There is a school that says I can be done in a year? Was classes very difficult?? And afterwards will I have to continue to do more training to do different scans? Just want to make sure I am setting myself up. I’m tired of school LOL do they offer a lot of OT??
what school?
What was your education path in order to pursue this career?
A 2 year associate degree In medical imaging or it can be called associate in radiology. You can complete this at a local community college or a technical program at a college. Make sure it is accredited and recognized by higher learning education etc
luv ur vids, i am currnetly 2nd yr radtech stident and planning to specialized on MRI, at the same time I had peircing on my nostril, does it somehow affect my job being a MRI tech?? thank you
If it’s titanium or solid gold you’ll be okay, I have ear piercings and all of my jewelry is gold and doesn’t interfere with anything 🙂
i plan on getting my ged then going to community college for my associates degree while majoring in medical technology (or x ray tech i don’t know which is easier since i will be working part time as a cna) then obtain my associates degree then take accredited mri program do my clinicals then take the test and become mri technologist certified, so
1.ged
2.obtain associate degree 2y (i don’t know which major yet, answers are so very much welcome)
3. accredited mri program + clinicals 2y
4.take test i’m assuming that’s like 4+ years of schooling all together i’m ready to tackle. i would appreciate any tips or feedbacks if i’m taking the right route and what others did
Is your end goal to be just an mri tech or both mri and X-ray?
I’m posting a q&a soon that might give you better insight, should be up in a few days 🤍
@@MimiLe i want to be just a mri tech
My recent video might be of help!
I need to choose if I want to do MRI, CT X-ray, or sonography. I start my radiography technologist degree program in the fall. Any opinons on which i should do? And why?
It’s really up to you and what you think you would be most interested in tbh. I can’t speak on other modalities I only do MRI and I don’t plan on doing any other modalities so def do really good research on each with pros and cons to help narrow down your path!
Did you shadow someone before you decided to pursue MRI? I’m considering it myself I’m a EMT
Hi! I actually stumbled upon radiology and figured it was better suited for me because I really love anatomy. It also helped that I knew an X-ray tech prior too. I think if you have an option to shadow someone, totally do it and check out all modalities if you can and see if it's something you see yourself doing :)
@@MimiLe thanks for the response! It seems like a cool job and I’ll call around local places and see if I can shadow. Thanks for the upload!
No problem! I actually was talking to a CT tech today and they said some colleges have classes that are like intro to healthcare where they teach about different healthcare departments and eventually will take the students on a field trip to facilities/hospitals to see what jobs are out there. It includes more than just radiology departments and I thought that's a good way to learn more about different healthcare fields, maybe if a college near you offers that you should take it!
So out of an 8hr shift how many hours are u standing?? Do u feel like the job is alot of wear and tear on your body???
I work longer hrs than 8, but everywhere is different depending how fast scans are and how many times you change the exam table. I have experienced working in slow environments and fast paced so workplace definitely plays a role in how hard it is on your body.
do you have to know all the body parts like all the bone names, parts of the brain, and down to the specifics right off the bat and do you have to use that everyday, do you have to label body parts.... I am taking Anatomy and physiology right now and i'm scared im going to forget a bone name. How critical is it
Most likely, I wouldn’t worry too much abt memorization, as that will stick long term with time and effort. Bi-yearly licensed test and exams will also most likely keep you up to shape. What you should worry abt is the clinical aspects of mri techs which is usually more important and harder to learn and understand. Stuff like: making sure your patients don’t have implants, how to keep patients calm, how to properly scan images. rn you’re in the prerequisites so really don’t stress abt it too much😅+ you’ve got a lot of time to learn before becoming an mri tech.
thanks a lot for your reply! Will keep this in mind@@furyboltmine6286
MRI is all about anatomy. Not just bones, but you need to know muscles, arterial vs venous flows, understanding a lot of physics of the magnet. You don’t have to label things, but you are required to understand what pathology is being asked for, and you must find it with your exam or at least give the radiologist something diagnostically appropriate. You will need to know anatomy inside and out when you sit for your boards, but when you are actually working, you’ll need to remember/understand enough to know what you’re doing in order to perform the proper examination on the patient. Hope that helps 🙂
yea helps a lot thanks for taking the time to write this, and giving me an insight 🤩@@beccanator1386
How long do u work in a day? And do u get to work with anybody or is it usually just you?
I have done 3 12s & 4 10s with OT. I work alone & I train new techs and students for clinicals.
Majority of places will be one tech per scanner. Each will have their own schedules but sometimes if you fall behind and someone has finished earlier they can take a patient for you so you can catch up.
tips on the radiology program i applied 3 weeks ago i find out in march if i got selected via lottery?????
What kind of tips? Like how to get accepted?
@@MimiLe like how is it
I have 2 Q&A videos on my channel talking more about MRI and schooling, but I think this video will have more insight for you: ruclips.net/video/GEH98ZKqb4Q/видео.html
also do you work with other mri techs, or is it mainly a one person job?!
I'm the head MRI tech where I work, so I work alone since I train new techs & I take students for their clinical rotation! Typically no matter where you go it's 1 tech per scanner, but there could be multiple scanners running at the same time so you can have support in some way or another!
@@MimiLejust 1!!! What if I can’t read an image correctly ? That’s scary but I want to get into this field
@@1120forevrryour job isn’t the reading aspect, just taking the image
Currently in school with clincals coming up soon!! Any advice?
Advice for clinicals, I would say pay attention to parameters and know your anatomy for coverage. Take lots of notes & take your time setting up patients because not everyone’s anatomy is the same. Patient positioning is very important! Good luck!
This might be a stupid question but what if you have to poop? Do you have time to do that with patients?
Not a stupid question at all! I am usually training a new tech or a student so one of them will be able to take over in case I need to step away for any reason. Or you can ask another tech if they are available to help you for a few minutes.
what do you mean get into a work place that will cross train you ?
If you start off your career as an Xray tech, to MRI you need to be trained in that modality. To do that you have to find a job willing to train you so you can learn how to do MRI and then you take another boards for MRI to get licensed. I discussed this in my Q&As if you haven't seen them def check them out, I answer a lot of faqs 😊
In hospitals, is there night shifts in this job?
How will be the future of imaging technology
