What! Sky break ties with Coach Spoon after One Season???? You need a season to grow and gel the team. Especially with new players. New coach and new players need time to grow and work on their game connection. Plus they had too many injuries with players out. Challenging for any coach.
Its obvious she was focusing on a lousy Reese to get ROTY. Very obvious there was stat padding going on. Any owner would fire her.

It’s a horrible organization that’s why. They used her to get Angel, Kamilla, and Chennedy. Snake moves are in their nature. If they are smiling in your face. Trust they are plotting your downfall.
They fired her ass because all she cared was getting the whole team to help Reese continue getting her useless double doubles she was obsessed by it,and laughing when Chennedy the thug threw CC in the floor in the locker room she acts like shes their friends acting all ghetto
These are young individuals interviewing her and their background needs to be more professional. All white interviewers at that.
Having her do exit interviews then firing her hours later is nasty work

Do everyone remember what Gabby said when Angel tried to recruit her back to the sky.. there were reasons why she said never would I play for that organization again. Chicago Sky front office is terrible and don’t see the trees past the forest. Why did you guys hire someone like Spoon and give up on her and your team after one season! All I can say is wow.

The Sky lost more games than the previous season. Additionally, the coach openly celebrated when players got extra physical with the league's star, Caitlin Clark.
The Chicago Sun-Times reported that players pointed to a change in playing style during the 13-27 season as a “disconnect” between them and the coach as a season that started with hope ended with the team missing the playoffs.
The players considered it a learning curve for the first-year WNBA head coach.

I won't be shocked if Chen and angel requests a trade and or leave!!! KC should leave as well and MK this entire team deserves better!!! They fired the social media manager because he asked if he could produce videos to further support the players up for awards!!! and they told him no!! This is bullshit!
Chennedy was on a 1 yr contract. Now that weatherspoon is gone Chennedy won't be coming back and no other team would want her

I had to read the article 3 times to believe that T Spoon was actually fired after her first season. Chicago was on the cusp of making the playoffs, injuries, illnesses set them back down that last stretch. Chennedy Carter rebuilt her career this year. Angel and Kamila are going to be dynamic. This move doesnt sit well with me.

No coach that is building a team should be expected to be in the top 5. Injuries you can not plan for. Growth comes with experience, players learning to read each other. Many things take time to coalesce. Thank you Coach for your giving so much of yourself to your players and the W.

Spoon is great. She'll end up elsewhere. But there were a lot of mistakes. I think we need to hold space for the idea that there are things we don't know going on behind the scenes. Maybe they are protecting Spoon in some way. Maybe this will ultimately be better for the team. Who knows. It's not like this weird stuff doesn't happen in the mNBA or in college ball

This makes me so sick. I need Reese and Cardoso out of Chicago. This is not a good environment for anyone to grow. It takes time to rebuild and add the right players to the roster. They can't attract free agents due to not having an adequate training facililty of their own and now showing they have a toxic environment. The administration is the problem and need an overhaul.
Unfortunately, other factors are at play here. Some certain few with too much time on their hands recently, totally manipulating the narrative for personal gain. Get the popcorn ready, people. Truthfully, there were hints and previews of the script set in play. I feel bad for this lady. She really supported her players but unfortunately, will not be rewarded for trying to keep the focus on the court.

What factors I’m curious
Why is everyone surprised by this? How many games did you guys watch? The Sky took losses that were not the result of the other teams but more in what looked like a lack in correcting fundamental errors. I blame the owner too, giving the Sky basically a public gym and not a real facility shows the level of investment. The type of losses Sky took were COMPLETELY PREVENTABLE and it looks like somewhere there was a break in communication. Even Reese said she was not aggressive enough as far as input as a coach, its clear as day this falls on the coach and management.
The sky will lose Angel! This move will ensure she leaves as soon as she can

Based off the looks of those who interviewed her this is some corporate bs. This is why the organization has been going down hill. They need diversity in the front office. Id blame some of the players for coach spoons firing. Coach was a great tough no quit of a player in her day. She’s a much more advanced coach than the Indy fever coach but the difference was the Fever players never quit, played when band up, and absolutely played there best down the stretch when it really mattered. While spoons had carter to deal with and her absence and most of all Reese and her sore wrist, sure. That makes a coach look bad. Especially when she more than had there backs all year and to pull that quitter crap. You can’t coach character. I’m sure she will be a successful coach somewhere soon and with a team that’s got a lot more heart good luck coach

The Sky figured out Witherspoon was a wrong hire. She built a very toxic team, and it showed on the court. She deserved to be fired

She didn't seem to set a very good example for her players and at times was not very professional in media settings. Some people just aren't built for being a head coach.
What is with this exit interview ? Add insult to injury. We all know Spoon was a good coach and wasn’t given a fair chance. I know it sucks now but there are going to be bigger and better things for her.
I’m not a fan of the Sky. You do have to respect the way they were depleted by injuries and still played hard every game. That has a lot to do with her.

Championing Carter for her thug moves, pushing Angel Reese, ignoring Cardoza… Not a good look..
Wade leaving in the middle of the season leads me to believe the management isn't what it should be. They should have kept you another year with this new team to build. I think your future will be brighter at an organization that will be supportive to what you have to offer as a coach. You got this, keep your head high!!!

Well… I know we all have our own opinion. I really wanted to like Teresa Weatherspoon. But when she did not check either of her players after Carter knocked Clark to the ground, and Reese jumped up and cheered, I lost all respect for her. I am new to the WNBA this year, and that kind of behavior was appalling to me. And then, the locker room debacle. She had lost control.

Sorry, she was promoting the wrong culture for her team instead of mentoring them into professional basketball players. Marina Mabrey saw the writing on the wall early and got herself out of there and into a better winning environment. I hate to see anyone lose their job but she had an opportunity to shape Angel into a professional basketball player but it was more important to keep her brand and her stat padding.

Now I really want to know what happened. This is an exit interview I would have been excited about. She provided self reflection, acknowledged what needs to improve, and what the future was to be...the more we get, the more this makes no sense. I wish TSpoon well. I considered getting season tickets, but have changed my mind
Transparency, I'm a huge T-Spoon fan. I respect her greatly. That being written, how do you fire a coach after one season? Look at the moves Chicago made for the 2024 season: gave up Marina Mabrey after All-Star break, Kahleah Copper wanted out, didn't even give their second round pick Sika Kone a shot. Seriously, ever since Elena Delle Donne left to go to her hometown team (Washington), the Sky organization just can't figure things out. Maybe Teresa can coach the LA Sparks after the Sparks fired Curt Miller.
