  • The Trio de Pumpkintown: Tim Eriksen, Peter Irvine, Zoe Darrow
Playing "I With the Wars Were All Over" at the Memorial Day/Civil War Commemoration at Henry Ford's Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan.
It was interesting to be a trio from a fictional New England village playing for a Civil War commemoration on Memorial Day at a different fictional New England village. A strange mix of the real and hyper-real. We really enjoyed the weekend and all the people and their characters we met.

I think that this was also collected by Sabine Baring Gould. There are probably many versions floating It makes a great companion piece to "Benjamin Bowmaneer".

To be able to sing in time while playing all those chords was quite a feat but..Oh..That's right...It's Tim Eriksen...

by the way I am so fond of your take on shape note singing! Also check out the Brothers Barton - times for artists are so bad in the USA they don't hardly ever perform anymore. They are authentic Okies from Steinbeck's Weedpatch area - had to practice as part of a family band or they'ld get whooped! Both are great and I adore their western humor and banter AND Lauren has a natural high lonesome voice I also adore. Great to "meet" you and your works...

Try also "Will you go to Flanders my Matty O?" Sung by June Tabor, it used to play in the entrance to Ypres Cloth Hall museum. She also does a cracking version of "Hills of Shiloh" which has an unexpected punch at the end... a little like "Dancing at Whitsun"

Very nice! I was there for the Saturday concert at the band-stand. Very nice to meet you in person, though I confess I was a bit too star-struck to start a proper conversation, LOL. Glad you could stop by Michigan, and I'm really enjoying the CD's!

Thanks for uploading - neat to hear an uptempo version. I think I prefer the more "ballad-like" version? Which prompts an interesting question: How are ballads different from other types of songs, and do they require a particular tempo? Off to wikipedia...
