Conrad and Boris seem like the kind of guys it would be fun to sail with.

Thank you! We have our first finishers, but all the skippers should be applauded for the great races they're sailing!

You can define a winner from the start with his ability of mastering a foreign language... Bravo Dalin and Richomme... ( PS. I am French and realistic)

Truly magnificent achievement for Charlie Dalin, inspirational time, the weather certainly aided in his epic time including this technological advanced 60. Thank you again, so nice to have these updates and praying all participants a safe finish.

Congratulations to all and every competitor. You are incredible skippers. Thank you for a great show. Take care, keep safe and as reasonable as one can be considering the unreasonably high stakes.

This is my 2nd Vendee. I remain of the option that this is the most fascinating/absorbing race bar none. I am also starting to understand the terminology and sailing techniques which is cool. One day I might even have a go on a yacht.

Boat design, off shore team and sponsors, captain capabilities, staying ahead of the fronts, managing the challenges. Congrats to the two arrivals.

Well I have to say that your coverage was considerably better than the official site. Picture and audio were intermittent to say the least...

I felt sorry for Andi and Alan. They're both superb, but the audio was really poor on Richomme's arrival.

Figaro circuit reporting got us into the rhythm of “armchair sailing”. Thank you for excellent reporting!

Thomas and Boris have lost their J2
Same thing for Paul but Paul has also lost a stay... so for him the challenge will be to go back to the Sables d'Olonnes without dismating.
In the early hours of this VDG Clarisse lost her MH0, Justine her J0 (I think J0 and Code 0 are different names for the same sail aiming to be multipurpose in light wind. J0 seems to be a naming specific to North Sails)
It seems that Jérémie and Sam (Goodchild) have preserved their boat in an excellent shape... as Charlie with only minor and fixable issues. The race will be interesting... Charal was known to be probably the most technologically advanced IMOCA.
As we can see, Charal seems to be a good boat, when I say good boat, I mean.... versatil boat able to perfom correctly under every points of sail.
Sam Goodchild's boat is a generation two foiler from Verdier. Interestingly, Verdier design is known to be the REFERENCE in light conditions and upwind, whereas other boats are generally designed for the southern downwind with awfull performance in upwind (the problem is that we didn't see so much downwind in the southern this year and the climate change could have some responsibilty).
So seeing Charal able to compete in upwind with Vulnerable II shows that Charal is a very good versatil design
Unfortunately Jérémie suffered an injury on his knees in the early stage of this race so he hasn't been able to match the fast and furious at the front, and we know the story.... the boat at the front have taken advantage of incredible wonderfull weather system.... just behind,... this is a nightmare with a lot of depression, a lot of "wind hole " to manage.
As said by Charlie, the guys just behind are not bad, they have simply no luck. This year, contrary to VDG 2020, there was absolutely ZERO opportunity to catch up the three leader, but just behind.... my god, this is another story, the weather system is a mess ar every stage.
Charlie, Seb and Johan have been able to take profit of a tiny window that made them able to avoid theses awfull weather systems. So launching the race as madmen was in fact.... for this year, the right thing to do. If Charlie had started slower the race as many other competitors as Boris, Samantha, Yannick.... he couldn't have caught this EXCPETIONNAL window, and frankly it would be hard to predict positions today because there was many tactical options behind. On the front, tactic was far more easy...
