Reviews are ultimately just opinions, so being "at odds" with the consensus is largely irrelevant. Different people can genuinely hold different opinions about a piece of art. Plus, 6 out of 10 isn't a bad score by any means. 6, 7, and 8 out of 10 are basically just different shades of good.
This game is fantastic top to bottom. No glitches, a lot of bonus endgame and side quest content without bloat, awesome art/story/gameplay. It blows my mind away an indie studio made such a large artistic masterpiece
I’m not sure if this guy even played the game. I’ve bought and finished Tails of iron, it took about 10 1/2 hours with all achievements completed and I experienced none of the combat problems he discussed. Of course it is a matter of taste wether it is good or not, but he has several wrongs in his “facts” so to speak. You CAN dodge every attack, and what does it mean “to not be able to win a fight in different ways”? You dodge, block and beat your opponent as in many other games, like Darksouls and Hollow knight (which are both very similar to this game). I feel this review to be really downgrading for the sake of just being downgrading. I mean, which game is he even comparing it to when he says it’s watered down? There are no actual substance behind the arguments. No visual nor audible que actually representing what he says.
Sounds like he wants magic in the game and looks like he never even got to the point where you get poison to apply to your weapon, never got to the lizards enemies, if so it means he played the game for an hour or two
This game is currently on sale on steam if interested. This guy is bashing the game needlessly. It's not a real critique, no pros or cons, no comparisons and he judges it as a AAA game. Make sure to form your own opinions people. For the small dev team and budget available, they did an amazing job.
This game is definitely on my "to get" list. I'm loving these newer games where you play as Animals...F.I.S.T Forged in Shadow Torch, Stray (2021), Away: The Survival, Biomutant, Maneater, etc.
Biomutant, (though I have not played it, I WAS very interest) seems to have been a let down though, but yeah I agree, playing as some sort of humanoid rodent is neat
I hope the reviewer got the vacation they needed and went a few weeks without playing videogames. Pro tip, it's not generally informative to tell people viewing a review that this game is like other games. Most of us don't play as many games as a reviewer and therefore games remain fun and fresh for us.
This review is so off base. Seems like his main issue is it being repetitive. I didn't find that at all. But I didn't get blasted over and over at every encounter. Sounds like a games journalist problem.
I almost didn’t bother with this game after watching the review but luckily the comments came in clutch. It’s free for ps+ right now too so it’s not like I got anything to lose, and I really dig the art style
Remember when ign gave alien isolation or doom 2016 a bad review not understanding the game? This is gamingbolts version. This game is amazing 9/10 easily.
This game is amazing I respect this man's opinion but the combat is not tedious at all it is a pleasure to learn the bosses' moves and the game starts with kicking your but and almost every fight there is no mercy which makes it so much better when you finally defeat a boss. This game is satisfying to learn and master and has interesting mechanics. Buy this game and give it a try it is one of the best Metroidvenia esk games I have played.
Just beat it and got 100% in achievements. The only thing I could say is that this game is awesome, but I would like for it to be longer (gib me sum DLCs!), and you should totally buy it!
I honestly loved this game - don't know what he is talking about.... cookie cutter or not - as you play - it ever gets boring you don't need any push to finish the game... most games have me pushing myself to finish it - this has me curious what is left afterward - there is a lot of endgame mission that will pop up through the world after the credits which are tiny side stories that will take you a while to finish.
Im having a lot of fun with this game. The art direction is great and the combat is fun and challenging. Plus, they got Geralt of Rivia to do the voice over. What else could you ask for?
I just beat the game and i really loved it, this game doesnt want to be something that it isnt. A complicated game or combat doesnt mean its a good game, tails of iron is simple, charming and enjoyable game.
Nah, I give this game 8.5/10 - The combat is quite brutal and fun. - Handdraw art is nice and neatly detail, I love how frog minion drumming while I'm fight thier boss. - I played on switch and found some framerate dropped when enterring the poison area, and for some other area. This is my best indy game this year so far.
I just finished the big zombie frog and damn this game is crazy I really love it it's brutal its fun and it takes alot of effort this game is really difficult some of these enemy patterns are ridiculous lol it reminds me of fighting hallow night bosses over and over and switching armors and stuff till you get it down I'm excited to complete this game.
Solid 8 on this game. Issue w/ combat is there is a number of times in boss fights where you hit but are not granted damage. I feel like there could have been some kind of better feedback when that happens. Also the backtracking could have been fixed by allowing to players to select multiple side quests at once instead of one at a time. Make the game feel “more padded then a bra on prom night” at certain places. Still I had a blast and loved the vibe/art or this so much.
2D dark souls with rats and frog... save state benches a la Hollow Knight and friggin' Geralt of Rivia as the narrator - how could you give this game a '6'? How do you sleep at night? This game has a lot of heart and deserving of the title 'hidden gem' of 2021.
This game is amazing in so many ways. It brings up all experiences we used to have in traditional RPGs but in a cuter nicer way - like a fairytale before bed - starting from narrators voice coverage and beautiful design and details of the levels plus a great musical accompaniment. After finishing dark souls - this one actually heals my soul after all that stress happened in a DS and I do enjoy every moment of this game. Beautifully executed @oddbug !
I experienced aesthetic pleasure from this game and got a lot of adrenaline from battles and victories over bosses. Excellent hand-drawn artwork. Perfectly optimized dualshock 5. The game is very difficult, especially at the highest difficulty level. I love hard games and went platinum on this game. in such a difficult game, where to pass the boss you need to die 50-100 times, it is very important that the ps5 has instant downloads after death. For those who love challenges and visual style, this is a must! It definitely takes its rightful place in my collection of masterpieces!
@Rorschach after playing this game, the criticism doesn't seem genuine. There's nothing wrong with a different opinion, but his points didn't make sense to me personally.
@Rorschach Chill bruh you complained about the original comment whining when you're the one doing all the whining. You know it's just an opinion right?
I’d say you are completely wrong. If you liked salt and sanctuary, this is like a mini version of that. I know this is all subjective but this game does what it does better than so many souls likes it’s a shame the small channels all love it and the big ones like this, are poo pooing it.
I just finished playing it in 5.5 hours and it was probably my favourite game this year with its charming combat although running back and forth got tiring as I went everywhere I could before I needed to but I’m using it to introduce my brother to rpgs
I'm a guy who loved sekiro ,its swordcombat and played it a lot . So why am i saying this ? Coz this game is amazing although it doesn't have same combat level as Sekiro . It's formula is similar . And that's what i loved . You learn the pattern of enemies and parry, dodge, atk accordingly. And similar to sekiro , you get punished real hard when you miss your 'moments' or dodge when you should've parried. The only thing bad about this game is , there is lot of going back n forth in the map . Combat is super fun but the walking distance can be boring . They only put 'Fast travel' when going to region to another but they didn't for traveling from one part of map to another which they Should have. Overall, if you like Combat-oriented games , this is amazing.
Remember when Ryan McCaffrey of ign gave alien isolation a 5. F insulting. That game is a g damn masterpiece. I still partially blame him for the sales being less than they wanted and as a result not getting a sequel. Its probably my favorite game of last gen. How anyone can say it's bad when they give garbage like halo 4 a 10/10 and crap like ass creed and cod 9s all day long is beyond me. Some of these "journalists" have dog shit for taste.
So wrong about the speech bubbles. I love not having to read loads of text. Somthing smells about this review. Like an IGN review when they don't get add money from developer
I found this game great . It got a 81 on both critic and user score on metacritic . I loved it . Sounded like gearlt narrating the story . If u like salt and sanctuary and fist youll like this . Its short and sweet
I've just recently played this game since it came with the playstation plus game catalogue, I've enjoyed all it has given and the visuals and music were paramount to the experience for me. My one and only criticism is the holding the button down for the healing feels kinda bad sometimes, especially during those faster pace boss fights were they barely give you time to breathe let alone heal. Maybe one press of the heal button gives you like 40% your HP and you can do that 3 times? I'm not sure, regardless the experience was great for me. Probably an 8/10 if I had to rate it.
While I respect this reviewers opinion I completely disagree. I think this is an amazing game. To me the combat is tough but satisfying and it gives you the feeling that when you die it was your fault. The visuals are fantastic the story is a bit cliche but fine and obviously the narrators voice acting is really good. But hey it’s a good thing that we don’t all have the same opinion about everything 😅
i love when game reviewers play the game as a chore and not because they want to play it. this is the result of the wrong company assigning the wrong guy to the wrong game. this was definetly a 9/10 for me, combat is good, the characters are also fine, you just cant find good games. id much rather play this than a AAA game.
tf are you talking about, combat is this game is better than the norm. Sound design is good and give weapon weight. Only thing I'd complain is that it is short and a bit too chill (need some more epic adrenaline rushing moment)
WOW!!! Umm... Yah... This review is why I don't watch reviews before playing a new game. I understand what he's saying. But this review comes off as a bit pretentious. I get that everyone has their own opinions. And I'm not here to take away from that. But when someone is presenting themselves as a "reviewer." This kind of review would be enough to turn people away from an otherwise really enjoyable game. While it doesn't do anything "NEW" to the genre, it does do it really well. And that's worth something.
just watched this sick gameplay the whole time tuning out this verbose word machine spewing words at me like is this guy even talking about the game? things that matter? have you ever told someone about a video game before? you literally said nothing interesting about it.
Pathetic, unfair and unnecessary "review".... simply a waste of time, i hope he does not make even 1 single person away from this game, because is very polished and such an amazing experience.
For an indie game in this genre it’s a 9 out of 10. This reviewer is more like a 6/10 at best. Never disagreed with someone’s opinion as much as this guy. This game is really great and I typically do not like these type of games (axiom verge, hollow night etc)
I have this game but haven't played. I'm currently at the very end or Dragon quest 11 and downloaded this for when in finished with that one (basically playing some unseen ps4 gems before getting a ps5 and diving into FF16) I'd like to thank the comments. I won't count it out and basically the macabre and atmospheric scenes the reviewers described makes the game sound enjoyable to me. So. Just gotta bring Veronica back to life in DQ and I'll be on to this one. Happy gaming
The person reviewing this didn't mention "Souls-like" one time. That leads me to believe he really has no idea what he's reviewing. The score is also at odds with every other review I've read/watched.
"Souls like" is a phrase thrown around very lightly these days. This game is not "Souls like", not with a long shot. The combat system is slightly similar but it has more in common with Sekiro due to the rythm-like elements. It does not have, however, any punishing features of the soulsborne games, no consequences of dying whatsoever. It is a rather tough action adventure game with some combat elements similar to DaS or Sekiro, but definitely not a "Souls like" game.
I try not to use lazy phrases/comparisons to make my points. "Souls like" is so overused to describe every action game with any amount of challenge that it doesn't even really shed light on anything anyway. And as far as the score being at odds with the "consensus" (whatever that means), wouldn't you rather see a review with a genuine opinion than just another echo chamber? Why even watch a review if all you want is just more of the same perspectives you've already seen a million times?
@@VoltanIgor Unfortunately, I was waiting for a stupid response like this The developer's own description on PSN says "Embark on an epic RPG adventure with punishingly brutal SOULS-LIKE combat."

@@MC-qe5qb There's things in the works but too early to say :)
This game is fantastic top to bottom. No glitches, a lot of bonus endgame and side quest content without bloat, awesome art/story/gameplay. It blows my mind away an indie studio made such a large artistic masterpiece
This is my favourite game of the year so far.
Glad you like it!
Finally watched this review and man did this guy whine the entire video.
Wow, every comment is about how good the game or how this review is wrong. lol
Hope you like it when you get it!
They need to bring back Deadly Creatures with a remake or sequel.
@@ravioleetv3833 biomutant is awesome. You should try it and form your own opinion.
Then check out 'Webbed'
bought this game yesterdaqy and quickly lost track of time because of how good the game was and found myself alone in the dark in my room at 3 am lol
For anyone who doesn't know.. its one of the free games this month on Playstation
I really hope there's going to be a DLC for this.
The negativity in this review is far out of band relative to others on Metacritic. This is the single lowest review of this game by far.
The dichotomy of - Garbage Journalist / Amazing game - is so so strong with this review. How do you still have viewers?
I think that's what blinds a lot of people to good games is that the difficulty but once it starts to click it is so satisfying
Just beat it and got 100% in achievements. The only thing I could say is that this game is awesome, but I would like for it to be longer (gib me sum DLCs!), and you should totally buy it!
The game is absolutely fantastic, enjoyed every single moment of it.
They should have never gotten rid of dislikes.
i just finished this game it's addicting it's way better than any triple A games i have played
do yourself a favour and buy this game right now !
Nice try mr. Developer, but no.
@@KonicaHexanon i'm no developer i just gave my opinion you don't have to agree
Im having a lot of fun with this game. The art direction is great and the combat is fun and challenging. Plus, they got Geralt of Rivia to do the voice over. What else could you ask for?
I just beat the game and i really loved it, this game doesnt want to be something that it isnt. A complicated game or combat doesnt mean its a good game, tails of iron is simple, charming and enjoyable game.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
I finished it to but after 10 ours I have Platin.... This is way to short.....
@@baf8189 Don't forget the game isn't full price. You were not paying for a full priced triple A game.
The only game i will 100% suggest no matter your genre of choice its such a perfect mix of elements. Love it and cant eait for the 2nd
Game looks phenomenal. Reviewer sounds like he played for thirty minutes then back to Fortnight.
Buy this game folks. Its not perfect but its fun. Think of your first dark souls story book told by Gerald to ciri. That's my head canon.
Get out of our head!
Nah, I give this game 8.5/10
- The combat is quite brutal and fun.
Love this game, and haven't made a better purchase this year.
Thank you!
Dark Souls is overrated honestly and if this game is anything like it it's probably a boring game
Nah 6/10 you dead, literally my favorite game that makes me feel amazing
Did you even play it?
I experienced aesthetic pleasure from this game and got a lot of adrenaline from battles and victories over bosses. Excellent hand-drawn artwork. Perfectly optimized dualshock 5. The game is very difficult, especially at the highest difficulty level. I love hard games and went platinum on this game. in such a difficult game, where to pass the boss you need to die 50-100 times, it is very important that the ps5 has instant downloads after death. For those who love challenges and visual style, this is a must! It definitely takes its rightful place in my collection of masterpieces!
I'm really liking the game, this review is kinda negative without fundaments, also remember is a cheap game.
Glad you're enjoying it! :)
@Rorschach after playing this game, the criticism doesn't seem genuine. There's nothing wrong with a different opinion, but his points didn't make sense to me personally.
@Rorschach why so salty.
@Rorschach you're the one that should grow up. But if that makes you sleep at night
@Rorschach Chill bruh you complained about the original comment whining when you're the one doing all the whining. You know it's just an opinion right?
Played it, finished it, and its a solid 8/10 for me. I'd give it a 9, but its a bit on the short side. Do not agree with most of this review.
Thanks for playing and finishing it! :)
He sound like does high school presentation you haven't read the book for.
Must buy one of the best Indie games released this year.
Thank you!
I’d say you are completely wrong. If you liked salt and sanctuary, this is like a mini version of that. I know this is all subjective but this game does what it does better than so many souls likes it’s a shame the small channels all love it and the big ones like this, are poo pooing it.
Just got this for free this month ps plus. It’s a pretty fun game especially for a free one
Yet another case where the critic was wrong and the game became very popular besides the negative criticism
I love how every comment is shitting on this “review” lol
A 6/10 is criminal. This game kicks ass
Really great game finally played it and wanted to see what others thought.
Ps plus games for April 2023, LET'S GO!!
review is totally out of place, this is a great game for the asking price! Go on and buy
Glad you enjoyed it!
I just finished playing it in 5.5 hours and it was probably my favourite game this year with its charming combat although running back and forth got tiring as I went everywhere I could before I needed to but I’m using it to introduce my brother to rpgs
These 9 minutes felt like ramblings of a Dark Souls player who never did Git Gud.
This review is trash this game is a masterpiece and worth every penny. Its souls like game and indie at heart.
Agreed, I have no idea how this clown has a million subs. So negative and so wrong.
58k views and only 800 likes. Too bad youtube took away that dislike counter.
That 'icon' type of communication reminds me of Machinarium
I found this game great . It got a 81 on both critic and user score on metacritic . I loved it . Sounded like gearlt narrating the story . If u like salt and sanctuary and fist youll like this . Its short and sweet
Crap review, the game is much better than a 6 and well worth the spend
Ditto
I've just recently played this game since it came with the playstation plus game catalogue, I've enjoyed all it has given and the visuals and music were paramount to the experience for me. My one and only criticism is the holding the button down for the healing feels kinda bad sometimes, especially during those faster pace boss fights were they barely give you time to breathe let alone heal. Maybe one press of the heal button gives you like 40% your HP and you can do that 3 times? I'm not sure, regardless the experience was great for me. Probably an 8/10 if I had to rate it.
Maybe you should go back and play your Barbie game. This game is great!
All gameplay shown in video is really early game. Is this another cuphead journo situation?
between this and Eastward its been a fun month lol
Eastward?! Jesus, you have a high boredom threshhold.
Play this game it's alot of fun with souls like mechanics parrying is easier lol, also the game looks amazing with alot of detail in the world
The rats are badass
Well said
Very weird review for one of my all time favorite games. I completed it 100% two times in a row, very rare thing for me !
This game is really good specially the combat.
cant agree with this review at all this game is something special long live the rat kingdom !
For the Ratdom!
Long live the rats!
I am a soulsborn fan And have Elden ring on my wish list. I am having fun playing this and can't stop playing. I'd give it a 7.5 out of 10.
As soon as I heard Geralt narrating the game....u had my attention.
He narrates the whole game!
"Wind's howling"
@@scatterbrainjon79 lol 😆
tf are you talking about, combat is this game is better than the norm.

For what the game is I'd give it an 8, 6 is a bullshit score.
Made me think of "Mouse Guard" which is why I got so excited
Thanks to the comments I'm buying this game
Just buy it it is amazing your doing your self a favor
this guy doesn't sound like he knows how to enjoy a video game at all
I have this game but haven't played.
@@VoltanIgor Unfortunately, I was waiting for a stupid response like this
The developer's own description on PSN says "Embark on an epic RPG adventure with punishingly brutal SOULS-LIKE combat."
@@Johnnygrafx That would make sense if it wasn't how the developers DESCRIBED THEIR OWN GAME.
@@jaybeam1466 I see. So if the developers called the game the most realistic rally simulator, would that be true just because they said it?
