I do the recipe the same way except I add the melted chocolate at the end of cooking. Cool until comfortable to handle and roll into balls. Coconut works great in place of nuts.
Suggestion: after they are rolled, stick them with a toothpick & dip them into the chocolate, that would make it so much easier! Can't wait to make these!

It's similar to Magic Cookie bars. That recipe has graham cracker crust in a cake pan, condensed milk, walnuts, chocolate chips and coconut. It's my all time favorite. This would be good when I'm craving those, but out of graham crackers....
I make this completely sugar free, using homemade condensed milk made with coconut cream or heavy cream, a little butter, allulose & a pinch of salt. Any type of nuts you prefer, & we really like it with pecans or walnuts~ delicious! Sometimes eat them plain, other times we dip in melted, sugar-free white or milk chocolate. I like sugar. I don't want a sugar free recipe when making a recipe such as this where it's apparent its a very sweet candy. You don't overeat something this sweet. One is enough and should satisfy any sweet tooth. However the walnuts should have been toasted before using to bring the joy of the nut flavor to the forefront of the candy

I wish they would make a sweetened condensed milk candy. One that tasted EXACTLY LIKE the stuff in the can. Not caramelized so it changes flavor. I can (unfortunately) eat it right out of the can with a spoon. This is why I don't buy it. I have a problem, lol.
With a spoon? I drink it straight from the can. Puncture two sides of the can top so it won't form a vacuum in order for it to flow smoothly. I try to avoid buying it (for the most part) as well. I'm gonna go get two cans today. One to drink, and one to make some of these recipes with!

But if there were candies, well, I would probably eat the whole bag! But someone needs Jelly Bell to make a flavor exactly like the canned, like the person suggested. What a great idea!

Did you toast the walnuts before beginning this recipe? Toasting any nut brings the flavor of the nut out and thats what flavor hits your taste buds not all the sugar from the condensed milk. Try it. You will be very surprised.
Agreed. I always toast the nuts when using for baking. And yes, it helps cut some of the sweetness in any recipe. Raw, unsalted and shelled pistachios are my current obsession; delish when toasted. All nuts can be done on stove in dry pan or oven at 350. Most only need 5 to 10 mins (depending on nut) before burning! Do not walk away! And take them out of the pan/sheet as soon as they're done because they'll keep cooking. Not that I learned the hard way... a few times...!

Apart the chocolate coating... This is very similar to the Afghan dessert sheer pira. But sheer pira adds powdered cardamom and also other types of nuts can be used, especially pistachio and it remains just the white mix with nuts spread and left to cool and cubed. This is very interesting version, it's like a type of pralines you made. ❤️

This is just brigadeiro (a brazilian truffle-like dessert) with walnuts haha. Normally it's made with chocolate powder / nestle chocolate milk mix, mixed in with the condensed milk. Then rolled in chocolate sprinkles. It's delicious!

My father in law used to put that milk in a pot of some water and simmer it slowly and it would turn into a pudding it was so good. I am going to try this, it looks good.
If you put them to set on a rack instead of a plate the excess chocolate would be easier to collect underneath. Still, a very nice looking combination. I might try it with peanuts.

Yummm.... to elevate this a bit, for a fancy occasion (which I clearly never go to, since I used the word "fancy"🤣), you could apply edible gold flakes to the top instead of, or in addition to, another whole walnut. Would be beautiful for a formal dessert table! And can be shaped into any shape you wish!
Much easier to coat your candy down in the bowl of chocolate and pick up each piece with the fork to drain. Place your walnut halves on the chocolate while draining. These two tips will help make your process much faster and that way your chocolate won't harden so fast.

You can also put it in a baking tray to cool and add the chocolate or coconut topping and then nuts. Slice it while it's still warm.

Should be at any store. Chocolate almond bark or chocolate candy wafers. You just melt in microwave or on the stove

Yummm.... to elevate this a bit, for a fancy occasion (which I clearly never go to, since I used the word "fancy"🤣), you could apply edible gold flakes to the top instead of, or in addition to, another whole walnut. Would be beautiful for a formal dessert table! And can be shaped into any shape you wish!

Much easier to coat your candy down in the bowl of chocolate and pick up each piece with the fork to drain. Place your walnut halves on the chocolate while draining. These two tips will help make your process much faster and that way your chocolate won't harden so fast.

In US you just spray plates with non stick and toothpick is great idea . Chocolate should be dark and no sugar yum. Very good!
