I've always wondered this: wouldn't it be beneficial to use reinforced tempered glass on the windshield and side windows so that hail is less likely to break them?
It's bad but things like this are unavoidable and will happen and unfortunately people die from these things. It's better off that tornados touch down so we can study them and better understand them and how to engineer better homes and buildings to reduce the amount of lives lost.
