      The helos are used daily/regularly to shuttle big wigs (very unimportant people) around DC, mostly military types, often to/from the pentagon and bases in the area. They fly at low altitude, and are a major noise and air traffic nuisance. In addition, they fly a route along the Potomac that intersects with the airport's take off and landing patterns over the river, in one of the most restricted and complex air spaces to navigate in the US. I would also like to add that just a few months ago, Congress approved additional slots for Reagan National, despite strong opposition from the safety experts and local pols, including Virginia's two Senators. Just so "they" can avoid Dulles and get in and out of DC easier.

One captain, a staff sergeant and a chief warrant officer, all attached to the 12th Aviation Battalion that is responsible for "continuity of government" to get officials to secure locations in times of national emergency. Their names will not be released until after family members have been notified.

    We already know what happened you can just listen to the ATC channel what do you mean investigation?
    The Helicopter accepted Visual Seperation saying he saw the plane and was passing behind it, he either saw a different plane or thought the distance & speed was different. It was a horrible mistake that led to a horrible accident but its all on the miltary pilot, just listen to an ATC channel.
    This has nothing to do with FAA or DEI but everything to do with procedures, most countries don't even allow visual seperation at night at this busy of an airport.

    how sad and pathetic at some of the comments below that belittle the experts at the NTSB that have to come out to say "we're investigating" and putting together multiple teams to look at various aspects of this horrible accident. A preliminary report will be released in 30 days. They first responders and divers are still trying to locate all the victims and you people are so disrespectful of the process. If it is the Black Hawk at fault, then let the report come out with FACTS so that future events can be avoided; training for ATC can be strengthened, or any other areas to correct. That is the purpose of fact-finding mission. There are multiple military bases around D.C; They fly all the time. I've flown in/out of D.C. many times, the airspace is unique and crazy for all pilots. Have some grace and show some patience!

    After listening and watching the traffic controller audio and computer screen, it was clear the traffic controller wasn't paying attention, in my belief all of the planes were travelling way too close for the speed they travel the controller wasn't paying attention to what what was going on right in front of him on his computer screen, anybody could see that the altitude of the plane and the helicopter we're at the same altitude and about to cross paths.😢 I don't know why these air traffic control systems aren't fully automated and only monitored by humans. Almost every plane accident has been caused by human error we need to rely on smart Technologies humans make errors.

    On all accounts the aircraft was in its final approach and within its correct decent profile, the Heli was advised of the aircrafts position and asked to do a visual, however it does appear that there was no vertical separation between the Heli and the CRS and that the Heli may have confirmed a visual on the aircraft that had just taken off.
    More information on this will come to light as the investigation continues. but at this stage it tends to looks like Heli pilot error.

      They were probably the same people from back when Trump was President the first time. Some of them had probably been there since Bush was President. This is a GOOD THING. Because if we fire everybody and replace them every 4 years, everybody would be noobs, and nobody would be able to do anything. They'd struggle for a year or three, and just when they're starting to get the hang of things in year 4, we fire them all and start over from scratch. Any company ran this way wouldn't survive. Why would it work for the government. No other country function like this, and there is a good reason.

    This is a perfect example of how incompetent the government is. The cause of this accident is obvious. The helicopter pilots accepted responsibility for separation and did not follow through. The airline pilots were not made aware of the helicopter. The helicopter and plane were on different frequencies so couldn't hear each other. The controller was too busy to give earlier and more urgent warnings to both pilots. Helicopter pilots frequently are allowed to traverse under aircraft very close to the airport. Collision avoidance systems are deactivated at low altitudes when they are most needed. Case closed. Get rid of FAA and NTSB. They're useless.

    • @zbagz01
      @zbagz01 7 дней назад

      This is a perfect example of exactly how to go about an investigation. You may think you know, but you don't. Did the pilot have a medical emergency? Was there a chopper malfunction? Did they try to turn back and couldn't?
      There will also be a slew of lawsuits. That's another reason why shooting your mouth off before you really know the facts is not a good idea. /

      @danielch6662 6 дней назад

    • @zbagz01

      Yeah. This is exactly why we need to trash the FAA and NTSB. Baron Trump can do all air traffic control for the nation when he's not planning luxury real estate development with his 18 year old friend.
      We really don't need the NTSB because they investigate major air disasters. That would mean determining who or what was responsible. Truly, who cares?
      And radio frequencies - great idea - put all aircraft on the same frequency: Air Force One and Jet Blue, fighter jets and Joe Blow's two-seater. Why hasn't anyone thought of that before????
