I love how this D90 looks and blends all together, now I'm wondering just what a series II or a classic would look with the ICON treatment done to them.
This truck is awesome , it is now what it should have been for years. TLC and thought and modern engineering makes this my lottery winning prize truck. Maybe someday before I die I can own one?? at least Dream...Please God....Great Job again ICON
As a lover of series LandRovers and the Defender,i have to say that i love this truck. One of the major things that lets them down is a lack of 'grunt' (with the exception of the 50th anniversary v8) L.E.D s however,i don't think suit it.But that's just my own personal opinion. If i was well minted,i'd be on the phone to you tomorrow! Lovely job.
Hey Jonathan, another top truck…..congratulations. Would have luuuuved to see the side vents, front grill etc C&C'd, hopefully the next D90 client has the wallet for it, no doubt you guys would have killed it. Congrats again mate.
Great work fellas. Love all your customs. So pleased to see how well you did here with the sow's ear of the fourby's; it's a real silk purse now. Thanks for showing us and thanks to the owner for letting us see his truck.
Severe overhaul. Rich man's landrover, presumably fast as hell. One of the points that people miss about the landrover is that it's built for range and not speed or extreme terrain, but can he customised to do either. Worth checking out what the race and expedition people do in terms of modifying landrovers. Bowler etc.
I've been aware of your company for some time but only just subscribed to the channel and didn't know you'd tackled some Land Rovers. Brilliant. The comments that you're not the only company to "do this stuff" are partly correct, but no one does it quite like you - more power to your elbow. I'm hoping, lottery win aside, that a customer rocks up to your door with a Series Land Rover and gives you a free hand - derelict or pristine - I'm not picky. You think a Defender's not square....oh boy! ;-)
The barrel sides were designed in 1958 and the 'new' headlight/grill design came about in 1983 so no surprise if the team were no longer about. As for the basic interior, it was designed for farmers and the like for use as a utility vehicle with the ability to easily hose out the interior. Hence the plain plastic or lack there of. As for being out of square, it doesn't need to be millimeter square. As long as the roof and sides bolt on and seal, being a bit on the piss isn't important... As much as i'd like the power, i'd HATE an auto box, but those axles and brakes i'd not kill, but certainly do somebody some damage for...
I got a love-hate relationship with Land Rovers... from series 1 to series 3 and Defenders...(the real ones), they are extreme looking cars.... but they look better from the outside that from inside.... love the metal dash... like the paint but not the wheels or the tyres but appart that ,it looks pretty cool and its driveble for nowadays roads ..Good job!!! AA+
Jon, fantastic! I for one love the look of the Rovers, I drive an old 96 RR P38, it is a jalopy, that has yet to leave me stranded anywhere...even on hunting and fishing treks, and I agree the fit and finish on these things leave allot to be desired. I often drool over your art, and wonder how I will be able to pay for one. I hope that your ideas like the FJ's and Toyota go into the these mfg's minds and pay you the stipends you deserve if they use them. GREAT STUFF!
Man if I had money to burn I'd love to see you guys "do your thing" with my 1978 Rover SD1 Series 1 3.5 V8, I really do love the Stock Buick or as we know it in the UK the "Rover V8" but would equally love to try a Supercharged LS motor with somewhere in the region of 650-700HP at the wheels with either a 6spd Manual or sequential box. Even in stock form it gives modern hot hatches a run for its money and will happily cruise at 120-130mph at day, drove it from London to Newcastle in total comfort, mine as it stands right now it totally stock with the exception of a few QOL additions from the RimmerBros catalogue(Stainless Steel Fuel Tank and exhaust, upgraded fuel pump and swapped out the Twin SU's for a Holley 4 Barrel.
sweet rover...grew up around these...my friends dad had an old series 2a the I learned to drive in. u guys should build one the old series land rovers...the series 2/2as are my favourites
What a cool job you guys have done on that Defender. Amazing detail, built tough and well thought out. I was curious as to what transmission you used and transfer cases, etc. Are you planning to do Defenders in the future? Fantastic build.
Great job but if I were specing it I would have asked for the central cubby between the seats to be binned and both seats mounted at least 2 inches inboard giving a much more natural driving position. Also I would have moved the handbrake up to the top of the transmission box and created a rose jointed link so the damn thing does not rub against the drivers leg.
I love what you do and I would absolutely LOVE to see your version of a CUCCV Blazer with a modern Duramax/Allison/Atlas. Too bad I'll never be able to afford anything with your touches. Disability SUX!
jonathon man these look the business, one day if i have the money i will buy one of these from you :) i love the style you have transformed it, amazing !!
I've watched many of your videos. Excellent work ! I'm not sure if I have the "financial tolerance" to get anything done there however. The job you did on the D90 costs more than the vehicle is worth.
I love this build =) I am a Landy Lover, and I have to say that this is a really cool "cross-over" I think it has some elements of a bronco first gen. but still is very british=) I saw a couple of cool builds from Twisted and from Landy chelsea but this is another animal. I would like to know if you do similar stuff in the future with cars like the G-class from mercedes and/ or Hummers H1's ?
It is about time someone recognized the D90's failings and made it the way it should have been made. Well done Mr. Ward! I had a 1965 Series II which I loved, but for the money the D90 was not much of an improvement in comfort with questionable performance.
.... Love this, John, - so if the battery is under the lid just forward of the r/h bulkhead, what's under the seat ??? probably a 5000 watt woofer knowing you yanks ..... ;)
If and when I have the means to commission a project with Icon, I'd like to do an International Scout II with a Hellcat drivetrain. That is a dream of a project.
Would GM's new 2.8L Duramax diesel engine and transmission work well in something like this? Have you had any clients request that engine in your builds yet?
Good looking landy!, love it when people put good engines in them, as landy engines have always let them down, the later td engines are ok...ish!, just a bit gutless. All the best matey.
Why has it got freewheeling hubs on the front axle? Did they fit a part time 4x4 transfer case? If so that is a retrograde step, a downgrade rather than upgrade.
That's debateable lots of people myself included much prefer the older series part time system, if nothing else the freewheeling hubs with theoretically net you another mpg for so.
Oh yes for sure that permanent 4x4 drinks a lot of fuel. But a 90 is just too short to be rear drive only, 88"s get away with it because they'll barely do 55mph downhill where the Defender is a faster beast all together. That said Icon seem to have made it work here but permanent is still way better on the handling and safety fronts, especially if you're not counting the pennies (or cents) as clearly the owner of this one won't be as they had it done by Icon. I've covered a lot of miles in both Series and Defenders.
+JumpinJack1972 no such thing as a 120, a 130 and 110 yes, and yes it has been done a few times in the uk but never to a 90 as they are a little to short
I love how this D90 looks and blends all together, now I'm wondering just what a series II or a classic would look with the ICON treatment done to them.

I am a huge fan of you and your team's work. Another Defender legacy preserved.

As always Mr. Ward a better version of another classic. Would love to see a Range Rover classic someday. You are the MichaelAngelo of 4x4's.

Beautiful!!! You are a true artist Jonathan!
I loved the D90 in Iraq but felt it could have been a little but better and the new take on the D90 here is Outstanding !!!!
This is now my number one off road bad boy..what a beautiful work you guys do. D90 starts good and this is just next level. Well done
Severe overhaul. Rich man's landrover, presumably fast as hell.

That piece of art is simply amazing. Just perfect. Well played sir.

This is nice. I saw other websites who restomod these trucks but I love the details in your build. Can you get your hands on a defender 110?
Can't wait to see what you do with the Defender 110!!!
sweet rover...grew up around these...my friends dad had an old series 2a the I learned to drive in. u guys should build one the old series land rovers...the series 2/2as are my favourites
Sweet...! Not a rover fan, but this one is slick. After the mods... Well done Mr. Ward, cheerio...

Unbelievable. The hinges are awesome.
Very Nice truck ..
That custom dash! what craftsmanship
Absolutely amazing 👏
Phenomenal job with this Rover!
Great analogy with the hot chick in heels!🤣🤣
If the Punisher wants an off road, this is it!
Love it. Something about the steering wheel though... seems so "normal" and plain. Everything else though... bravo!
***** Thanks for responding! Your work is still awesome
That thing is magnanimous! WOW!
What about the Yellow D90? I am still waiting on that one. Great job BTW.
It is about time someone recognized the D90's failings and made it the way it should have been made. Well done Mr. Ward! I had a 1965 Series II which I loved, but for the money the D90 was not much of an improvement in comfort with questionable performance.
Who said "I'm not a Land-Rover guy ..."? Great job !!!
Defender is a work truck, simple!
Best looking Rover I've seen.
Nice American twist on the Landy...
Interesting work... Can you show us some of the other Land Rover work you've done?
H
On second review I feel you guys should have given a hint of dark British racing green mixed with the black. Epic regardless.
When I win the lottery I will export my truck to the US for a bit of TLC :-)
Might ship it to the netherlands, see top hat defenders
@@01Bouwhuis Or JE Engineering in the UK who build the Zulu Defenders
Another beautiful ride from you all. Question I have though, why do you always use 6 lug axles? Are they stronger than a 5 on 5.5?
nice work !
I'd love to see an icon jeep cherokee
***** would an early model Isuzu Rodeo/Passport be worthy of Icon treatment given that a healthy budget is assumed?
voces ja fizeram algum trabalho com um izusu trooper ?
Do you guys do can or wranglers?
.... Love this, John, - so if the battery is under the lid just forward of the r/h bulkhead, what's under the seat ??? probably a 5000 watt woofer knowing you yanks ..... ;)
I always wanted a land rover
Did you get much improvement on the turning circle? I work for JLR and the Defenders are always a pain in the arse to move around the yard.
Jonathan how long to build from drawings to delivery?
Man, wish y'all would have kept and maybe built up the lt230 t case. AWD is elegant in a mechanical since.
I noticed you guys changed the stock long silver radio antenna to a short black one, may I know what antenna that is?
If and when I have the means to commission a project with Icon, I'd like to do an International Scout II with a Hellcat drivetrain. That is a dream of a project.
Would GM's new 2.8L Duramax diesel engine and transmission work well in something like this? Have you had any clients request that engine in your builds yet?
She’s perfect!!!
Love it! Dare I ask how much the project cost the lucky owner?
Isn't there already a company that does defenders called icon?
One day, one day....
Nice One, Good Job!
Awesome!
Good looking landy!, love it when people put good engines in them, as landy engines have always let them down, the later td engines are ok...ish!, just a bit gutless. All the best matey.
ماشاءالله عمل رائع
Nice
I would love to give you a 110 and a healthy budget.
If I ever become rich, my car will an icon!
Hi Jonathan, what do your source your steering wheels from?
What kind of tires did you put on this and are they city and off road?
Thanks,
Rich
Well done, you turned it into something else. Nothing new guys.
Why has it got freewheeling hubs on the front axle? Did they fit a part time 4x4 transfer case? If so that is a retrograde step, a downgrade rather than upgrade.

I've covered a lot of miles in both Series and Defenders.
I bet with everything being done by 'buddies' the client did cry UNCLE.
Whats the price on a flip on this???? Ball park?
What chassis did you use?
Dana 60 rear 44 front damn LS3 damn
SO nice
Those front tires look like they touch the fenders.
what's the typical budget that you get when a client wants a car?
Has Icon ever completed a 100 series?
Охуительно! Молодцы!
Love it!
stunning
cool men
More 110's please!
I dnt knw why no one is converting wranglers to look like D90s there is a huge market for it now..
so awesome
I would be interested in discussing this w/you
Can we stop saying rover, it's land rover. Rovers are completely different.
Huw Robinson Your feelings were hurt that much to type a ridiculous comment? Grow up and don't reply next time. Enjoy the vehicles.
Chris Pappas no it just came to mind, also slightly hypocritical from you.
+Jonathan Ward And it's SOCCER! Live with it!
Huw Robinson You do not know the definition of hypocrisy, obviously.
The companies were actually related.
Sharpest looking front end in the game
Where did those headlights come from?
***** Thanks, I've been debating importing an old MoD defender and this is a real inspiration.
Trucklite 7" round LEDs, my semi has them, less than $400 pr. online
Could you fit a cummins diesel into a D120?
+JumpinJack1972 no such thing as a 120, a 130 and 110 yes, and yes it has been done a few times in the uk but never to a 90 as they are a little to short
I'd get a Cummings 6bt instead
could probs fit this new cummins v8 into a 90 though
+Rangerover matt probably, it would be interesting to find out!
well they are bringing them out next year. as a create motor, somebody with a bit of money to spend should find out
What year is this?
+brandon hernandez Uhh...let's see...., it's 2015! The month is December:)
International scout or bronco. All looks the same
I'm focking in love
Say Mr. Ward ! Your Land Rover install a Power Steering, Head Unit, and LED anymore.
Tried the LED headlights from Trucklite , never liked them, they don't put out any light, now i'i try converting the original headlamps to HID lamps
0 - 60 and top speed please ?
A lot of UK farmers don’t get ICON.
