MANILA HOTEL * Classical Ensemble in Centre Lobby

I stayed at this Lovely 5 Star Colonial Hotel in Manila Phillipines. Best Hotel that I have ever stayed in. Six Stars in my books. Really...Love it. A Classical Ensemble was playing in the Lobby Restaurant. Great Viola Solo, reminiscent of Yo Yo Ma.

It's so good to see this. The Manila Hotel goes back to pre-World War II and could have easily ended up demolished after years of neglect by the government. Imelda Marcos deserves much of the criticism hurled at her. . . Not in this case. It made sense to undertake this restoration, and it's been done well. Apart from that unpretentiously elegant lobby, one ought to see the MacArthur Suite, named after Gen. Douglas MacArthur who occupied it briefly after the Japanese surrendered. And then there's the Champagne Room, which was literally Imelda Marcos's creation. Like everything else she did, it's over the top but this one avoids being tacky -- just.
