Mac Boucher Gets Fit For a New 3-Wood with Ian Fraser

  • We are in the TXG Fitting Studio with Mac Boucher to help find him a new 3 wood.
Mac has been using the same 3-wood for over a decade, and Ian wants to help him find something that offers a technology and performance advantage, but without requiring a full recalibration of Mac's setup. The secondary goal it to make sure any new fairway wood doesn't reduces Mac's ability to shape the ball.

For everyone commenting why I didn’t try other 3 wood options and “this seems like a TaylorMade ad” I told Ian before the fit started that I have a very specific head-shape and “look” preference when it comes to 3 woods. I have tried all brands on the market and had a good idea of what I wanted before the fit started. I play 5 different club brands in my current set that I’m gaming (Callaway Apex MB iron 4-9, Vokey pitching wedge, TaylorMade 52, 56, 60, Adams hybrid and Coggin design putter /‘s TaylorMade Driver. The end goal of the fit is for the customer to leave satisfied, which I am. I’m looking forward to working with the new 3 wood to dial it in! (This might take time) There will be plenty of videos in the future trying all brands 🤙🏼

Just a curious and uneducated question, why don’t you play a 5 or 7 wood for that 250-260 carry with stopping power? Instead of theoretically playing a 3 wood like one of those clubs. My answer I might have for that is maybe you don’t have the room for that in your bag maybe?

@@kendallward8190 I carry a 7 wood already. Main reason is I need a club I can flight super low. I hit a lot of stingers off the tee and struggle to flight 5 and 7 woods low. 🤙🏼

I hit the Taylormade Plus two times over the last three weeks trying to figure out if it could replace my Callaway Epic Subzero. I came to the conclusion that it was too low spinning to use off the fairway for me - but would make a great tee club only as the spin rate was low two thousand all day long. I was instantly ten-fifteen yards longer in carry - but it would fall out of the air if hit high in the face

I guess I don’t understand this fit, the result was 25yds more with a flatter trajectory. I just assumed with his goal being to land FW shots on par 5 greens that this fit would have gone 4w loft as he won’t ever lack distance.

@@Hrybread His goal was 260 - final setup carried 270 and rolled to 283. Nearly 25 yards long. He definetly should've been put in a 4 wood or 5 wood to be honest. Macs preference is TaylorMade, he states that in the video, there is only so much you can do when the customer only wants to use 1 brand.

Will be lots of videos in the future trying other brands etc. I’m all about looks at address in a 3 wood and honestly for me specifically TaylorMade is the only brand I like the look at address 🤙🏼 this was my call as it’s a club I’m going to be gaming and need to like the look of.

Ian and Mac are awesome...but let's be honest. This was basically a Taylor Made ad.

So if we fit Tiger Woods into his new gear for 2023 is that a Taylormade ad too? What so many of you are missing is that the brands don’t matter. It’s the fitting principles, the performance metrics and the connection between player and fitter that is on display here. It could be any brand, it’s irrelevant.

@@clubchampionmedia The TW comparison is irrelevant. Come on now. I've read Mac's pinned comment. It would be good if the videos showed more context and discussion on choices and why they were chosen. To me this video and fitting didn't solve Mac's "problem". His Tour Edge already does what he wants, it sure didn't seem to me that the Stealth did what he wants. I'm just asking for transparency. I think the videos will get less "hate" then.

@@deepee1544 Darren, I thought my 3 wood was doing what I wanted until Ian pointed out the key reasons why it wasn’t. I’m not a gear head. He’s the expert and helped me find something that I enjoy even more. I’ve had time on the course with the new 3 wood and absolutely love what it’s doing on the course. I hit it in the middle every time and don’t have my normal Heel strike miss like I had in the exotics. At the end of the day we can’t show all the context of the fit or else it would be a hour and half video. I left (and still am) very happy with the result, isn’t that what’s important?
