We both loved reading growing up, but lost our reading habit during law school when we suddenly needed to read a LOT, all of the time. Working wasn’t much different, since we had to read vast amounts of documents for work almost every day. Over the past few years though, we’ve managed to find ways to build back our personal reading habit, which we share in today’s video!

Welcome back to the world of leisure reading! I don't know about you guys, but I absolutely do not enjoy look up books on online stores. I find so much pleasure spending time in a bookstore, such as the Strand in NYC, the Kinokuniyas in KL and SG, and Swindon at TST (when it was still around). Every time I'm in a bookstore, I feel like a kid in a candy store. I usually look up the books that I'm interested in reading in the bookstores, hold them in my hands, flip through the pages and take in the fresh scent of paper. You are right, be specific and intentional in your reading, but sometimes you also allow a random book take you on an unexpected journey.

Absolutely! We love discovering new books in bookstores, and shopping for books is definitely not the same experience online. The tips we shared in this video were more the things we did which helped us rediscover our love for reading a while back after we lost the habit during law school, but we definitely share the same kid in a candy store excitement when we're in a bookstore!

That's beautiful. Also one of the reasons why I can never understand e books. I need to feel the paper and have something to smell. And over the years seeing how the plages turn yellow.

    I agree with this!
Reading law really makes you put off leisure reading! I managed to bring the habit back during the covid lockdown but since things have gone back to normal and work is back again, my reading for leisure has gone down again! 😔

This could definitely be a topic for another video, but to briefly answer your question, Atomic Habits by James Clear and The 4-Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss are two non-fiction books we go back to often, and A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara is a great fiction book! 🙌🏼

The video is so good! In it you mentioned how you had to go through a thousand pages of legal papers a day. Do you have any recommendations as to how to read faster?

    • @EmandLloyd

Usually we just try to focus as much as possible, and we track our reading as we go down a page with a pen or our finger (something we're taught when we're young NOT to do - but it actually helps a lot with keeping track of where we're at). Thanks for watching!
