  • Spent a bunch of money on like 8 or 9 different multitools from Amazon, to Victorinox, Leatherman, etc...
But there can be only 1. Which is it? And if you don't like large pliers, whats the best knife leaning equivalent when it comes to tools and size?

I've been carrying a multi tool for years. Never have I needed more than what a Leatherman super tool 300, can deliver!

I've been thing of getting a super tool 300. I have the wave plus with the Rebar pliers, and and awl in it instead of the regular pliers and scissors.

I agree. I’ve had my Arc for a while and love it. I just slide it into my jeans fifth pocket and go. With just minor modifications it is ideal. I tapped on the scissors pivot to tighten them up and now they cut good. I also put a radius on the shoulder of the reamer with a file like a chain saw file so that I could easily strip wire or chamfer a hole when boring into something. In other words I continued the cutting edge into the corner.

If only they'd make a multitool platform with water pump pliers head, for a lot more grip on bolts. I used a cheap brand needle nose plier multitool to try and loosen a rusted bolt on my bike and it didn't work. Needle nose pliers are good, but not for loosening bolts. I just got Knipex Cobra XS pliers. If only they made a multitool based on those pliers. 🤔 Oh, and *CARBON STEEL FILE* would be nice. I expect a lot more from Arc for that price.

Victorinox have released a Spirit with one handed opening, the MX which is also available with pocket clip. That would be a fairer comparison to contemporary Leathermans like the Arc. Where I am I can buy the Spirit MX Clip for less than half the price of the Arc.
As it is, being in the UK, I can't EDC a Spirit or Arc, due to it's locking blade. We can carry one-handed opening blades, provided that they don't lock. My favourite oho UK legal folder is the Spyderco Urban.
But I have lot of options in my rotation, including the Swisschamp which I like a lot. I vary my EDC according to what I'm likely to need for that specific scenario.
Today I was working in a small CBD store here in London. In my pocket I had my Victorinox Climber, with pocket clip and plus scales. In my bag I had my Leatherman Bond, plus a 4in Bahco adjustable spanner/wrench.
I used the scissors on the Climber to open small packaging for new stock items, and oddly the tweezers to pull out the labels on the price tag gun. I used the wrench and the Bond to re-adjust this weird bolting mechanism on the door which the maintenance people still haven't come to fix.
If there could be only 1? Well I suppose my only 1 and done legal carry multitool is the Swisschamp, in terms of a multitool which has blades, pliers, scissors, saw, file, openers/scrapers/pryers, and drivers. There isn't another 1 and done UK legal multitool from a reputable manufacturer that I know of, the Bond for example lacks scissors.

I hear things from other countries and it always blows me away... How you can't carry a knife with a locking blade. To me, its a safety item, to keep you from hurting yourself. I don't know why politicians feel that they have the legal or moral authority to tell you what tool you can carry... boggles the mind, and I feel bad for you guys... :-(
I am gonna check out the Spirit MX without the clip... The thumb stud on the blade though, looks odd to me, and I feel like it would jam into my leg in my pocket, or, get in the way of sharpening it on my Worksharp system....

@@SquireSCA Government gains more power over the people the more it convinces the masses that they must be restricted in what they can own due to a tiny minority of people who've abused those tools. Sad to see the masses of simple sheeple bend over and take that tyranny in the guise of safety so easily. If we treat government like government treats people, governments would have no military weaponry because of what Hitler, Stalin and other murderous dictators did in the past. That would be idiotic, of course, just as it is idiotic in restricting good citizens from carrying certain tools solely based upon what a small group does with theirs in committing crimes with their tools. The government thinks it's your master, and sadly the people really are spinless to up with it. Pathetic.
As we see written in the US Declaration of Independence: _"... all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed."_
A timeless quote of text, it'll never be outdated. It's true in every generation.

The SwissTools Spirit MX is pretty slim, and packs a lot of tools in it.
I really wish that they would add a set of pliers to the Alox series... THAT, I would love... I have the Pioneer X and Farmer X, and if it had a set of small pliers and a Philips screwdriver, it would be all the tool anyone would need.
