I'm with you on Alien over Marvel for use of theming + gameplay. I also enjoy that it lets you mix Aliens and Predators--in TWO ways--Predator vs. Aliens OR humans vs. BOTH! Great variety. Really fun! (Key words are a bit of a pain, but fairly intuitive...not a big deal for me.)
Nice one! It does look really good, but since I already have the Alien set, I think I'll hold off buying this one, as it seems pretty samey! Thanks Zee!
+Oseelot Predator is a lot more difficult, it has 2 modes and the new set-up method and the "call for back up" keyword should give other sensations with the same player count. I have both and I don't regret my purchase.
it IS very "samey" to the alien one, although i found the scenarios better thought up. There's only 1 predator in the entire deck and it's crazy hard to take out. You can however now achieve a minor victory by escaping the predator. The objectives are also overall better than in Aliens. However, if i had to pick only one, i'd still get Aliens. Because ultimately Predator is essentially 2 games in one box, but each game has half the content found in Aliens. Invariably, you'll have a game mode you'll prefer and want to play it more over the other... but there won't be enough in that mode to keep you coming back for more a long time.
+Martin Larouche Thanks man, thats a nice overview! If I ever feel like I ain't got time to bleed, I might pick this up for the extra gamemode and the property, if Aliens ever gets old! Its still got a lotta life in her! :)
Although Predator is a stand-alone game, I think the heart of the content is to use it as an expansion to the other games. Predator isn't much different from other warrior alien races such as Klingon and Kzinti for instance.
Of the two film based games I think the method of play fitted the Aliens franchise better (e.g. the scanning of locations). [I've not payed the Marvel version]
metallsnubben Since making that statement 10 months ago I have in fact now played the Marvel Version, and Big Trouble in Little China, and Firefly. 😄 Of them all Alien is still my favourite. That may be because it was the first version I played, or it may be that the theme and mechanisms meld so well.
I bought Legendary Encounters but I wasn't impressed. You rarely have any actual choices. It's often quite clear what's the best thing to do so after a while the game pretty much plays itself.
I am....underwhelmed. Interested enough to try it but that's it. Don't own any of the others either. Not sure why. Loved the movies and I'm a Marvel collector of 35+ years.
For anyone who thinks this is too boring, not enough real choices etc. should check out XCOM the board game. Don't be put off by the requirement of a mobile/tablet app to play this game, it is absolutely an amazing coop experience. The time restraint alone provides just enough of a hectic atmosphere and each player role is significantly different, but they all intertwine in a beautiful way.
Next they should make Legendary Encounters: Terminator.
I'm in
+Glassblower1980 Agree. Then Robocop :)
Legendary Encounters: My Little Pony?
@GianPaolo DiCocco I don't see how a Star Trek one would work
@GianPaolo DiCocco I haven't play the X-Files. But I guess it could be similar to the Firefly game.
Great review, Zee. Quickly covers the basics and gives thoughtful analysis. Thumbs up.
By the way, "Predator 1 or the second film". That would be the cleverly named Predator 2. 😄
No brainer for me. I really love my Aliens Encounters, so I had to have this one. Great way to mix and match different playstyles. Awesome!

Thanks for the review. Oh, BTW. Nice shelves. We got the same ones to store our games.

The marvel version seems to be simpler, no scanning and stuff and instead just straight up superhero biffing

Well now I know what version to get!
Legendary Alien or Predator. . . Which would you choose for 2 player only?
Alien
Both
Great video!
I love encounters, ugh this is just more drain on my budget.

How about when the players are Predators? Maybe it's better to add it to a Marvel game.
Legendary Encounters Lord of the Rings PLEASE!!!!
