Thank you Oceana for making this video. It’s so important to let people know about the content in these books. Also thanks for mentioning my video about Part of Your World sis, definitely the words they use to explain things red flag 🚩 😭

Thank you! I’ve wanted to read Emily Henry because so many of the book tubers I watch love her but none of them mention about spice or content. It would also be so helpful if everyone added that info to their reviews especially if a book is not in the romance genre.

I’ve read almost all of these books so I’ll leave some of my thoughts here:
    ---
Emily Henry- I’ve read all but two of her romance books and I just genuinely don’t like her writing for some reason so I haven’t liked a single one of them. I’d say Book Lovers is probably her spiciest and my least favorite. Wouldn’t recommend any of them, though.
Abby Jimenez- I HATED Life’s Too Short, liked Part Of Your World, really liked Yours Truly, and LOVED Just For The Summer. I’d say Just For The Summer is her “cleanest” book. There are bedroom scenes but they’re not really detailed and the language is much lighter than her earlier books (which I won’t read because she seems to have improved a lot since then lol).
Sarah J Maas- I’ve read The Assassin’s Blade and Throne of Glass and started ACOTAR. I liked TAB but was bored out of my mind with TOG. I only put ACOTAR down because I wasn’t in the mood for it at the time but I’ve since decided I don’t want to pick it up even in the future because of how smutty the rest of the books in the series are known to be. P.S. when you were talking about the plot and said “fairy jail”… I died laughing 🤣
Lynn Painter- I’ve read all but one of her books. I’ve liked all of her young adult books (although, I don’t think they should be considered YA. The language is HEAVY) but her adult romances, every single one of them, I really like the first half, the characters, the writing, then they finally get together and… it’s all just constant sex after that. Ugh.
    Authors I’ll never read:
I’m relatively tolerable to content - although I’m becoming less tolerable to it 😅 - but I will never read Ali Hazelwood, Elsie Silver, Lucy Score, Tessa Bailey, Elle Kennedy, or Lauren Asher (well, that last one’s not actually true because I have read one of her books but… NEVER AGAIN. I’m scarred 🫣). I’ve flipped through a few of all of their books and I wish I could wipe my memory of the things I’ve come across every single time 🤮
Such a helpful video, though. Thanks, Oceana! 🩷

I try to keep in mind that just because it’s a popular author and the cover looks good, it’s what’s on the inside (content) that counts. Just like with people. 😊

I really love that even when you love a book and you’re almost done you still stick to your convictions and put a book down if it’s too much! I found that with From Lukov with Love by Marianna Zapata, I thought I would try it because it sounded interesting… got literally 95% of the way through with little smut and the language I could get through and then suddenly there was a really intense smut scene and I was so irritated because I was 95% through but I just couldn’t finish it! I really love that you do that too! Love watching your videos because I also know I can trust your recommendations :)

LOVE 👏🏼 THE 👏🏼 PASSION 👏🏼 speakkkk lol it would be wonderful for clean/closed-door readers to have more options for sure, and Idk how much of the published vulgarity is coming from the publishers bc they think that's what sells..majority of published books pretty much glorify the vulgarity (not just explicit sex scenes but the language and adultery etc)..idk lol 🫤

I appreciate your opinions on these books! There are some I agree and some I can get past. I’m kind of up in the air sometimes. Like I have issues with Abby Jimenez, but at the same time her stories are so powerful I have been able to continue reading through language and scenes because of that. I still hate that she includes that, but especially with Just for the Summer, I felt like the message she was trying to get across was so there for me that I can look past things that were sprinkled here and there. Whereas with other authors, like Emily Henry, I just didn’t enjoy the writing, characters, and story as much to push through those things. So I’m kind of done with trying her I think. Especially her writing drunk or high characters all the time. 🙈

Im so sorry you didn’t go on with Wall of Winnipeg. Aiden is a grumpy, rude, self centered man who turns that around with Vanessa. Van is warm to everyone, except her sister (which she has every reason to hate but still just lets her be and ignores her as much as she can) because of the positive influence of Van, Aiden turns around. He is so sweet with Van and honestly becomes a man who deserves the love Van has to give. Most of Marianna Zapata’s books are in the sales world and overlap characters. If you want a hero who is logeable from the beginning try Hands Down who’s is Zach (Aiden’s roommate and one of Vanessa’s best friends) and Bianca. Zach is just a sweetie pie. I do audiobooks for all my “reading”. There is one steamy bit, more than 1/2 way through chapter 24 (book has 25 chapters and an epilogue)

Whenever I spot a secular book that catches my interest, I try to skim through the content to scan for strong language or open spice, especially if I am not familiar with an author or publisher. My library had a copy of Book Lovers and the random page/scene I opened to made me blush, shut and shelve the book quickly. As cute as the cover and premises was, I knew it wasn't for me.

I'm curious about Colleen Hoover... No idea if she's clean or not, and why is she so popular YEARS after her first books were originally published? I don't like language in books as a general rule - I can deal with the "minor" words if it feels realistic to the character or situation, but when they just start having. it as part of the dialog as filler words it annoys me and I really hate that "f" word and when I'm listening an audiobook it makes me feel like my ears are burning.
