Here Ever After, It's Only Natural and White Braids really stood out to me. One thing I really like about this album is that everyone seems to have different opinions on their favourites.
My opinion the US Strat sounds like a Strat should and the blue one sounds like a strat with hot pickups, they both sound great, horses for courses, haven't heard the new album yet looking forward to it though.Didn't your mate Dave Simpson saw off the 22nd fret on one of his guitars?
Yeh your dead right there sums up the 2 nicely. I just lent my friend the album so i wont hear it again for a few days haha. Yeh he did i dont think id go that far but it definitely bugs me that tiny bit haha.
I have “Tex Mex” pickups in my Partscaster and found the bridge pickup to be “spiky” but fitted a “base plate” after reading a recommendation on a Strat forum which improved things massively! If you’ve never tried it I suggest you give it a go. Very easy to reverse if you find you don’t like it.
They are quite similar. In clean mode i barely noticed the guitar swap. In overdrive there is a more notable difference although it could also be the differences between the two guitars that are coming out more in this mode. Personally i like the guitar with the Texas Specials better, but i would not call the other one a bad guitar at all. It also sounds pretty good.
I agree with you about the diving board fret. The overhang is a bit off putting but no biggie. I’d prefer the 21 being standard myself. Nice guitars though.
Very nice comparison video! You are so right about the Tex Mex pickups. I have the Tex Mex pickups in one of my Strats, and the Texas Specials in my Sage Green 04 Strat, and this video has confirmed my thoughts exactly. Thank you for the video my friend!
Thanks for watching. I have a feeling whilst well like the tex mex are also reallllly inconsistant because ive since tried another set that came standard in a guitar and wasnt hot at all like the standalone sets 💁♂️
first time I did not even notice the difference, second time I noticed that Tex-Mex give bit more low end, but just it for my ears :) So I think I can just dial lows on the amp to make them sound the same. In comparison with 57/62 the difference was more pronounced.
Personally I preferred the sound of the Tex Mex pickups, the Texas Specials sounded a little harsh through my earbuds. Admittedly my earbuds aren’t the quality of my headphones, but not everybody has high-spec headphones.
@@Paul-D OK just gave the comparison a quick listen on my headphones and the Texas Specials sound the better of the two now. The Tex Mex sound flat in comparison and the Texas Specials sound very open and detailed. So what you listen on makes a big difference for sure.
I think its an even harder choice on a tele then a strat set. I seem to be more fussy with tele pickups hahaa. My favourites would be the Jason Isbell ones on the mim sig The broadcaster twisted tele set on a baja And the standard 60s vintera ones
i just got that exact tex mex strat, even the same color on sale, do you still own it? sometimes i feel like my affinity strat sounds better. And the sound on the texmex feels thin
Ah cool my blue one is a 12 year old 60s reissue that i just swap pickups in and out of haha. Im not a huge fan of tex mex in general as filmed a few times here on shootout vids. They are okay, just i can think of 10 sets of the bat that are better haha
@@Paul-D yeah, i get how you feel. They sound cool for rhythm, but lack some body. I’m thinking about returning it, but it was $720 and that sonic blue make me question myself. 😔
So DAMN EASY- Man, that opener really took me by surprise, hahaha, fantastic! As far as the pups go, depends on what you're driving. Some things have more headroom and you can afford a hotter signal and still get some cleans out of it. For my money, if I'm focusing on cleans, I'm going with the lower output. If I'm mostly driving an amp into compression and I need a pinch of presence with my heaping helping of gain to cut through, Id go w the higher gain option
What I cant stand is a 22 fret neck with a square overhanging fretboard. And I really can’t stand a 24 fret neck because the pickup should be at the 24 fret. I’d rather fret off the pickup or use a whammy pedal than mess with my favorite pickup position on a Strat!
The specials are definitely better, it’s pretty close as they are basically the same design, but there’s more clarity in the specials especially in the bottom end. I’m sure it’s more obvious when you’re holding it…
I really dislike Texas Specials and changed out mine to Lindy Fralin, Blues. Frankly I find myself disagreeing with other opinions on Pups - there must be more to it? The way we play, which pick we use etc. I just dunno, I have to go on my own findings. That being said do the '57 '62 set have a mid-range scoop? All the best quacky ones seem to come from Seymore Duncan... Best, Pete.
Lady Fralin pups have avoided me so far i really want to try some And for sure theres more to it then just the pups - i think especially a strat with way you play and even pics. I use either a 0.6 or 0.73 exclusively never changes lol. The 57/62 doesnt have any mid scoop to my ears tbf
Yeh they are very different, the 57/62 are still my favourite. There just less hot - but then again i favour humbuckers and P90s atm so perhaps i should revisit the proper texas specials
@Paul-D Very different is such a nice way to say it, lol. I love P90s! And I have a Neck Humbucker in my MIJ TL67-SPL70. I had to swap the pups, pots and wiring on it as well as my MIJ Strat when I got them, but they are both amazing guitars!
What I also noticed is the Tex Mex that came stock on the old roadworn Strats from 10 years ago now, aren't the same as the texmex loaded guards like this one that you can buy now. Don't know what changed... but the old stock ones were better too.
I own a 2003 TexMex Strat- I hate it. I also have a 50th anniversary stat that was 1/2 the cost of the "highly decked out" TexMex POS. the cheap Strat play much better, sounds GREAT also.
I thought the sunburst had a 'glassier' sound, a bit more open and clear. So that the blue sounded a tad murky. Of course either on their own and you'd be none the wiser. 😎👍 I've had the new RHCP album since it came out, so that's a week now. Not heard it even fully yet, but I'll make time this weekend. What I have done is I've listened to a load of those recent live RUclips uploads. One thing I haven't heard anybody mention is that John's backing vocals totally elevate the band and really help Anthony. I can't recall the live track...maybe something from those Stern videos, but for about 3/4 of the track Anthony was a bit ho hum, John played his solo and the rest of the track sang with Anthony 👍 and that made such a difference. Cheers man
Yeh Johns backing vocals have always taken them to that next level especially on stadium arcadium. I think im looking forward to unlimited love taking them on loads of gigs and seeing modern versions of their older songs as much as any new music or following records haha.
that's fine, I can only base what I say on what I know, and what I know based on buying literally 100s of electric guitars over the last 2 years. There are other factors. The set up alone, the materials. the bridge etc etc. But the single biggest one element on electric guitar based on what ive gathered, is the electronics.
@@Paul-D It's not impressing me so much. I'm playing from decades. Just take two celestion and make a swap on your favorite amp to understand their huge impact on your sound. Take a Fender Deluxe 65 and a JCM800 and looks at the difference. Honnestly, all thing in the chain count, not only the pickup. I would be too much easy !
I assumed we wasn't including the amp..... that argument makes the entire thing redundant and ALL videos are utterly pointless on RUclips in that case. Because there are way too many variables that massively effect the tone, the amp, speakers, IRs if using them, Audio interface preamp...... If you had come in and said that I would of agreed from the start lol.
I didn't like my Tex Mex's until I discovered i have a tone knob. That fixed everything and now I'm a huge fan.
