Hey! I found another way of grabbing the last chord = G# maj 9 Ring finger on E flat Middle on G# bass pinky on G# fourth string Index stays as bar Thanks for this beautiful lesson, It was very challenging and I can't imagine how much effort you put into teaching this piece Appreciate it man!
Just found your channel, this is top tier teaching in my opinion. Really finding it manageable to work my way through and connect each part of this song. Thank you so much🙏🏻
Very tricky but so much fun to challenge. Looking forward to putting the capo on (once I get it all in my head) to give the fingers some slight relief. Wickedly amazing lesson. Thank you and much respect!!!!
Hi Tim, and thanks for another fantastic cover and amazing tutorial!! Your going to keep me busy with these must learn covers.. Can't wait to see what's next! Mark
Wow, thank you sir. Have been looking to learn this for a long time. Found your thorough video. Definitely learning this one. Really appreciate the great effort, have a great day!
@@TimVanRoy oh yeah .. I have always love that song.....really nice song.. tks and with your tuto and explication ..it's more easy to learn . I have just to be patient
Excellent video and very well explained Tim, wow. Sound of that guitar is great. maybe a weird question, but how many hours in total are you working on such a video like this? Was it recorded at once? I wish I could explain it in English as well as you can. You use 2 recording cameras and two microphones. The tabs are displayed. Really very professional. Because of this video I have been able to put the "dot on the i" haha (I don't know if that is the English translation). There is a difference between making a tutorial and a good tutorial. You definitely fall into the category: good tutorials! I'm looking forward to the next one, haha..one day. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Hi there! These tutorial videos take up a huge amount of time, but most of it is planning, transcribing the songs and editing the video. The most tedious part is putting in all those tabs underneath the video, that can take hours of work. The recording of the tutorial is always done in one single take: I record the audio (two mics for the guitar and one for my voice) in Logic and shoot the video on two camera's. Afterwards I merge those two sources in my video editor and clean the video up a bit: a 50 minute tutorial is usually edited out of a 60-minute file, and most of what I cut is due to messed up English rather than messy guitar playing!
@@TimVanRoy could not be happier you are putting out these tutorials. They are amazing. I personally don't even look at the tabs at all. I just follow along, I love how you explain everything and the camera angles are so good I don't even need the tabs. Cheers bud and keep up the good work
Hey Tim, Great job. This is so cool. You have explained it so well. Luckily the song does not have those chords wherein you need to use the thumb over the neck to play. I find it the most difficult may be because i have got small hands. Also, the alternatives really help, especially in the last ending chord. I am definitely using the alternative way :D Could you give some advice for players with small hands? The other day i was going through one of Tommy's tutorial on the song "Never too late" well, it has a section wherein Tommy is using the thumb, I tried but could not do it. I need an alternative there :( Thanks and keep sharing. Cheers!
Thanks for the lovely comments! I always try to keep an eye out for voicings that are difficult to play with smaller hands. I noticed this is the first concern among my students as well: when certain chords are too difficult people will give up rather quickly. The best advice for people with smaller hands is to have the greatest attention for your posture: thumb down low on the neck, centered in the palm of your hand and a nice arch in your wrist. If that is all taken care off, most chords should be possible. "Never Too Late" is on the schedule for the future, but I have a least 5 other songs planned out before that!
Thank you! The guitar in this video is a Martin J-40 (from the year they were launched/invented, I think '86 or '87). I always use Elixir strings, in this case a 12 gauge set!
It's a difficult chord, no doubt about that. Make sure your thumb is behind the neck (not on top of it). Without a correct posture that part will probably be impossible...
Thanks for your tutorial. I'm trying to break down the part Tommy plays at 2:43 in this video: ruclips.net/video/BoeuXk1j01c/видео.html. It sounds so nice but looks really difficult to play. Did you consider this move but decided to skip it or why was it not included? :)
Ah yes, that lick. I have gotten multiple questions about it... I can't really recall why I left it out, but I guess it was mostly a timing issue (wanting to post a video that week and not enough time to learn that move). I'll probably have to do a little aftermovie to explain that single lick.

Although this is an instrumental version of this song, Hal David should be mention as the lyricist.
It's a Burt Bacharach-Hal David song.
Hello Tim, Thanks a ton, learnt this! could you please add the 2 chords in the ending which Tommy plays?

How much action high E , low E you using at 12th fret? 1:13
I usually aim for around 2mms on the low E-string. If the high E-string doesn't buzz when it is set up like that, I don't bother with checking ;-)
What is the size of string using
@@IISRADSIRS Always standard 12 gauge sets!
Oh very big i am strugling with setting up my action my guitar too hard to push the string now it 2mm height but still too hard (no.11 string)
If i go for no.12 will it help ?
Thank You
