On "My Car Story" we're in the Phoenix AZ area on 1-1-20.
We're looking at a 1940 Ford De Luxe 2 Door Coupe in Black Paint. The car features a Flat Head V8 engine.
The car's Owner is Sandy Mosch. Sandy’s had this car since 2003. Sandy shares she married a Race Car Driver so she became a “Car Girl”. She does share one of the reasons this car is so clean is she has a hard time seeing over the steering wheel to drive it.
ENJOY!
The '40 Ford Deluxe coupe is probably one of the top most gorgeous American car ever produced. It's one of those models that you can say the designers and engineers reached perfection. From stem to stern, grill, dash, and legendary flathead 8, it's a real gem. This example is beyond "nice". it's IS the nicest original example I have ever seen - and I've seen a lot!
Hi Joseph Consoli, High praise for the design & condition of this car :-) Lou
A machine when we lived in the land of the free and home of brave!!
:-)
Righttt lol
That is the nicest original 1940 ford I've ever seen. Every detail is as per the factory deluxe. Ford tires and their colony in Brazil is an interesting side exploration. Looks like it was kept in a clean room at NASA for 80 years so Bravo to the owners.
The rear light ref: Corporal strips amigo, a Sargent has 3 -

Wonderful *reference* car, I hope no one ever "rods" it....she seems to be a sweet lady too, may she live long and enjoy :-)
It would be sacrilege to hot rod this beautiful piece of WW2 era US Ford DeLuxe...thanks Lou. I particularly liked the cloth interior and the wood inlay. Also isn't that heater a gem with the little baked enamel doors. I had to mention the early plastic(bakelite) window winder and dash controls and the flat head 8, 6 volt engine, smooth as silk... This car is a gem and to the really nice and friendly lady who lost her husband, thanks for letting Lou film your car. :-) Mike in Australia.
Hi Midnight Gambler, I was so pleased to share this 1940 off the showroom car with you :-) I hope it stays all original too, Lou
@@mikevale3620 I believe there's a special place below for people who destroy old cars.
@@joemackey1950 Especially such a perfectly presented car. I think it could benefit from a bit of a drive down the freeway to get the crap out of the engine though.
"Tommy Guns, Moonshine & Tequila"! This '40 Ford looks great and must have been full of surprises back in its day. It still looks great today, too. Thanks, Lou!
Hi TheGunfighter45acp, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this Forty's Ford :-) Still looks showroom new and glad to share with you. You're welcome, Lou

Hi Debbie Dunn, Happy to read you enjoy this "Sleeper" :-) Lou
Whomever restored this did an AMAZING job!! She is GORGEOUS!!
Nice to see one in showroom new condition :-)
So is the car
Owner says original....
The owner says right at the outset that the car is original....
My grandfather, God rest his soul used to call cars "machines". Before he got his "new car" a 1955 Ford he had one similar to this,. I was just a kid so I'm not sure if it was a 1940 or not. He was born on a farm near Charlotte SC in the late 1800s and he made the best grits LOL. Anyway, Lou thanks for an interesting video of this time machine and the memories. Your videos are making my "shelter in place" a lot more fun.

My lady, a immaculate 1940 Ford machine. Looks show room fresh! One of the best I'll bet. My favorite is the 1937s, but retro rodded. Thanks for allowing us to gawk!
Hi Richard, Happy to share this showroom new car with you :-) You're welcome, Lou

What impressed me with the design of the car is the way the hood fits into the fender
Happy to read the details you enjoy :-)
Yeah Lou, The way the hood was cut into the fender caught my eye. Most hoods and fenders lay perpendicular. This one fit like a jig saw puzzle with a added cut. I wonder if it was the design of Edsel Ford and E T Gregorie (sp)who were active during those years. I know a detail like that would have added to production costs. giving Henry fits
That 40 Ford is my dream car. I think it’s the best one!!

Grew up around Fords. Dad had one before my time, but I remember relatives had one when I was about 5 or 6, and could remember all the little styling details you pointed out like the head light assemblies with the parking lights in them and the chevron style tail lights! I can also envision that beautiful grill like I was transported back in time.

Simply stunning. I absolutely love the details, that door mirror is so elegant and yet so simple. The designers got it right with this one. The owner, Sandy, is such fun to listen too, that laugh after she revs the engine at the end is precious. This car is the definition of "simple elegance", absolutely beautiful. Good one Lou!!!

Just came cross this episode on RUclips from January 2020's video on April 25, 2022. Talk about a fabulous car! Reminds me of some 1940's Bogart film... Not sure the engine back then was this loud for a year and make of such a classic but wow! This was great to see!

Thank you so much for this, Lou. As a little kid in the early '60s, this was easily my favorite car, especially set up for the drags as a 'gasser. Never seen one stock in person so this is great !!

Thank you for sharing your car with us. I own a hobby shop and I have built many versions of AMT's 1939 and 1940 Fords. They are my favorite Fords of all time. Sadly, when you build the model kit, you don't get the full scope of what features the car really has. Thank you for showing us this. "Ford" tires...who would have thought?
I have a review of the AMT 1940 Ford Coupe, Sedan and Sedan Delivery. Hope you can check those out sometime!

The chevron tail lights are a real signature style of this car...... sounds like the engine could use some normal attention ie carb, points, plugs clean and adjust. But mostly I'll bet it needs to be driven. Fine example indeed.

Beautiful car Lou my Uncle had one identical to it back when he was in high school. It was the same color and my grandpa had bought it from a man who used it to haul moonshine here in Oklahoma. He drove it through high school and college and parked it in my grandpa's barn when he joined the Navy in 1962 I think. And it sat in that barn until about 10 years my Uncle and cousins dragged it out and took to my cousins house. It would cost more to restore it than my Uncle wants to spend but I'm hoping maybe my cousin will fix it up someday.
