probably the best "how to" video I've ever seen. In fact, I think anyone who makes a how to vid that doesn't measure up to this one should be put to death
hi everyone ,if anyone else wants to uncover how to keep cats from spraying try Cat Recovery Tactics ( cat.RecoveryTactics.com ) ? Ive heard some interesting things about it and my work buddy got great success with it.
Wow, that was one of the best how-to videos I've ever seen...and, I watch a lot of vids. You spent a lot of time editing and it's really appreciated!!!
As an owner of 4 cats and a house with original hardwood floors on the 1st floor, THANK YOU. I had the exact same thing happen to me, but in like 6 spots. I can’t believe the stain is pulling out like this. It’s not going to look perfect when it’s done, but it’s definitely disguised. Thank you for showing us how the floor will continue to lighten, that’s a big deal. Ive since moved all litter boxes off of hardwood, and have protectors around their litter boxes still. Oh the joys of being a new adult!
Great video! A suggestion for quicker results: Place a shop cloth, old towel or layers of paper towels after using the peroxide. Then place a heavy object on top of the towel. This will soak up the urine as the peroxide works. (Make sure the heavy object is not a book or something that will absorb the odor. I used a heavy plastic mat.) Check frequently and replace with clean towels if the area is still wet. You will actually see the urine stain transferred from the wood to the towel. Keep doing this until no more urine stain shows up on the towel. Then spray an enzymatic stain & odor eliminator on the area and let dry. The enzymes biologically break up any remaining urine stain. I use Rocco & Roxie Stain & Odor Eliminator (there are others on the market but I have found this one to be the most effective and efficient. It also does not have an offensive odor.
I have a sealer on my hardwood floors, a finish like. Will this effect the sealer? I have stains as well, some new ones from my puppy but I’m worried about the sealer/finish on the floors
Thank you for making extra effort to show the before and after images flashing after each attempt. Great visual context. I have a red oak floor that human urine really, really messed up. No harm in trying your method at this point and following up with that pet product to get at the enzymes if even a slight odor remains.
Did y’all go slow? Did it continue to line over time? I’m hoping to use this method to alleviate water stains from plants from 100+ year old floor as well!
I am happy to say this is totally working, even after only 3 days I see a total difference. I reapplied the peroxide every 4 hours and put a cloth over it to ensure the peroxide soaks into the floor. I am going to stop reapplying the peroxide and see if it keeps lightening! I’m so grateful I came across this video.
Thanks for the video. Roommate's cat was peeing on a rug and was gone for a week and could smell it. Certainly helped. Just make sure to get it zeroed in with the stains because it discolored some of the unaffected spots.
Thank you SO much for your video! Our dog peed on the carpet a few times and although I cleaned the carpet, it started to smell. Got rid of the carpet - then with baking soda + vinegar, got rid of the smell over a few days but left very dark stains on our beautiful wooden floor. Followed your method and it’s working wonders already after just an hour. So relieved, thank you!
I see that you did this video five years ago but I just have to say thank you very much I tried everything to get the stains out of my hardwood floors from puppies I'm hoping and crossing all the fingers that I have to this works thank you so much for a video this simple straight to the point and easy-to-follow
Thanks!! The most thorough and common sense video I've seen. The hardwood flooring biz vid said to stain it darker or replace it - not gonna rip up my 100 year old boards, and now I don't think I will have to.
A GODSEND! My house is getting appraised soon and my two cats decided they didn't like the functuay of their litter box and stained the flooring in defiance. I also love how your cat was watching you fix the mess they made xD
Incredible video. Not only the information, but how you filmed it the video. Talk about going the extra yard! As good a video as I have ever seen on YT.
Thank you so much. I called Home Depot and because I don't have any extra pieces for replacement they said the entire floor will need to be replaced anywhere from $1,000 to $3,000!!! I'm look for a cheaper solution. I'm going to try this. I have nothing to lose.
THANK YOU!! You've given me hope! My cats have been going behind a sofa in the front room for a while it seems....just found the huge black spot! The before and after are really great - again thanks so much!
I am thrilled to find your remedy. I tried it and am thrilled with the results. I had several spots where I didn't realize the dogs had peed on rugs. When i lifted them I was shocked at all the dark stains. Thank you!!!! Your system worked!!!!
This worked brilliantly for me. I had accidentally left some kind of cleaning bottle tucked in a corner and it stained the wood underneath, partly with water, maybe with whatever was in the bottle. I think I did this process over two days and started pretty conservatively. After you apply the peroxide, it will continue to work / lighten even after you take up the peroxide towel. I would say I got 90% improvement, and it is in a corner of a doorway - not something anyone would ever notice unless they were specifically looking
You created the best how-to video I've ever seen. Thank you for thorough video and image documentation of the process, showing what people are most interested in seeing. The analysis and debrief at the end is also appreciated. If there is a "best of DIY" contest, I hope you or someone submits this. There should be guidelines for How-To videos that take notes from this video. 🙏 Now, I'm going to buy some H2O2 and fix my floor😎🐅
Your videos are super informative! I came for the water pressure video but left with a plethora of knowledge on car fobs, microphones and cat urine stains.
Your editing job made this video A+ Flashing the before and "now" really helps show the difference in the best possible way. I'm going to have to steal that idea for my vids :)
Fantastic quick educational video. I will try it tomorrow, perhaps saturating with a spray bottle instead of pouring peroxide directly onto the floor. Much thanks for hopefully removing the stains!
Thank you! One of my cats peed on the floor right next to a kids bean bag chair and the whole bottom of the bean bag and the wood floor under it was soaked in cat pee! 😭Gonna try this! 🙏
Many Thanks! After a few videos with poorly "controlled" experiments and terrible production I found this video. Thank you so much for the clarity and taking time to post. Great stuff and I'm feeling reassured I can tackle my stain too.
I once used 30% hydrogen peroxide cream on my hardwood floor, in the darker spaces between the boards. In a matter of 30 minutes it was much lighter, but weeks later it’s almost white. It sure looks better than before, in that you’ll only notice it if you stare at it. I’m thinking of adding a light coating of colored wood varnish to it.
Wow! The use of the paper towel was ingenious. With it you can steer the peroxide to the exact spot. I especially found the fact that the floor had not been sanded helpful because my floor is a beautiful color and I was hopeful that I could remove the stain without a full sanding. I'm going to try it. Thank you for this great video. I watched several of them and this one is tops.
Thanks so much - I had tried many techniques and products including oxalic acid to remove black water stains on a light pine wood window sill and this did the trick! The wood looks like new!
I was considering trying the oxalic acid but my floor is sealed and stained wood (the examples I saw required sanding which isn’t an option for me). How did your hydrogen peroxide hold up? Did it continue getting lighter? Thanks in advance if you’re able to reply :)
I’m a young homeowner in my forever home. I have shared it with a few girlfriends over the years, and I always get left with the cats. I love them, but they did some damage to one section of my living room due to this exact cause(cardboard under the box). If this works (day 1 and already lighter) I will be so freaking happy.
I'd recommend spot testing an small area for a short amount of time before leaving it on for 24hrs. The stain was removed but it is significantly lighter then the surrounding wood. So instead of a noticeable dark stain I have a noticeable light stain. I only used 3% hydrogen peroxide for 2-3 hours.
Thanks a million, time! I have pets that pee on the hardwood constantly. I live in a rented apartment. I was searching for a product on how can I clean thank you I find this video, so I can fix simple and easy way...
I tried this method and it does work. Only problem I had is that it noticeably lightened the hardwood around the cat pee stain. Still glad there is a solution to these pee stains.
Incredible results! After using baking soda/water on a spot once per day for three days, we got minimal results. After one day (actually less) using hydrogen peroxide on the spot, it was removed. Careful not to use too much as I could see how the actual wood finish would get removed completely requiring you to stain again.
This is gonna save my life, I had no idea my puppy's kennel had a crack in the pan and his accidents would seep into the floor below.... Moved it and saw my life flash before my eyes at the hardwood. It probably wont 100% fix it but it will probably save my ass from being outright murdered
Thanks a million for this tip. We have a stain from our cat that we used enzyme cleaner on and left for a few days to dry out. Using hydrogen peroxide on the stains has lightened the dark stops up nicely to the point we're waiting for it to dry out fully and will apply a new clear sealant to the floor.
Dude! Thanks so much for sharing and we are very pleased to see you still have your cat! LOL Best of luck to your and your critters. We are following your advice!
Wow! Your floor staining is similar to what mine looks like. I’m going to give this method a try. Amazon is delivering high-sided litter boxes tomorrow, so I hope that helps prevent overspill in the future! 🤞
Thank you so much! I can’t wait to try this. My rabbits love to pee outside of their litter box. I have a new plastic liner on the floor, but the wood underneath is still stained.
Kendall, if you haven't tried to put hay in their litter box, try it. We do that for my daughters rabbit and she only uses the box now. Rabbits like to munch on the hay while they go. Lol
would hydrogen peroxide 6% clean it more effectively or is that too strong and will bleach the wood? (I have the exact same type of floor and similar stains)
Nice! We moved into my mother in law's house, who has always had cats (some naughtier than others LOL), and we have cats, and the house is all hardwood except for the kitchen and bathroom. Soooo....yeah. I will be making use of this method. Saving to my "furbabies" and "cleaning" playlists :-)
cant wait to try this. when i noticed black mold on the hardwood from my pet i was so stressed out. luckily it hasn’t warped the wood and looks similar to what you had to deal with. i was wondering how long was the mold there before you applied this?
Ok so hydrogen peroxide worked on my cat stain on my wood floors. But I had to use 40% cream developer hydrogen peroxide from the beauty store. The 3% stuff didn't work at all. But the 40% developer worked in 24 hours. Also the cream made it very easy to paint it onto the stain itself, unlike using the paper towel method with the liquid kind. Overall very happy with the results. So this does work!
This is great - the best one I've watched in terms of the before-and-after shots and explanation of what you're doing. Thanks for posting and I'll try this beginning tomorrow. Your kitty looks like mine, at least from the top & behind. :)
Yes this works as he stated it takes several days and 3% peroxide is so much cheaper than all those other brands suggested to order that cost alot of money.
Thank You, my elderly dog is good going outside. BUT, just lately I've put down newspaper and she does go on it, she just "misses" the paper and I have a couple of stains. It seems you are saying it MIGHT just clean up enough with fewer applications, but More drying time. I will try that, too.📌 And, would u recommend using a fan or blown heat to help? One more : does it matter if the area DRIED ? Thank You. And, Katie (doggo) says thank goodness ! 🐕🦺
This is an excellent video, from the point of content and because there's little besides pure information and useful reflections in it. We have a similar problem and will use this advice...
Thanks, I didn’t understand what you meant by “drying “ ! You mean applied for a few days but then just wait for a few more days and don’t apply it again until it dries ? Well can’t we dry the wet floor in 10 seconds with a towel ? That’s what I mean by being confused about “drying”
You know cats pee outside litter box when they have problems? Most often UTI, it's serious. Mine had it and now i feed him special urinary diet which helped him
Great video...TIP: use food grade hydrogen peroxide...higher percentage, and it will bleach out in hours rather than days. But it can burn you, so wear gloves and eye/nose protection.
I am in my RV an I had some beautiful plastic mats down that my dog peed on that I did not know about and I have a wide area that needs the hydrogen peroxide. Thank u so much. Going to get it now.
I would suggest leaving the nature's miracle on longer. Maybe puddling it and taping down a thin plastic drop cloth to keep the alcohol from evaporating for at least 24 hours. Then lift it up and let it dry naturally. Once it dries, you will be surprised with the results. Most of the time people complain about stains still on their floor but when they go back, the stain is gone. Nothing is consistent and a lot of times... it all just depends. So many factors involved.
You should teach a master class on how to create a "how to" video with no fat whatsoever. Straight to the point no BS. Not a second wasted. I've liked and subscribed.

Omg this was a lifesaver for my rental apartment where my female cat constantly uses the bathroom beside the litter box. Worked like a charm

As an owner of 4 cats and a house with original hardwood floors on the 1st floor, THANK YOU. I had the exact same thing happen to me, but in like 6 spots. You know cats pee outside litter box when they have problems? Most often UTI, it's serious. Mine had it and now i feed him special urinary diet which helped him
I'm going to try this. Fingers crossed that it works for me too. Thanks for the video.
great experiment, thanks for this man.
Super helpful. Thanks you.
Help with smell?
Great video!
How about the urine smell did the hydrogen peroxide help eliminate the odor? Can you post the product used? Thank you!
Great video...TIP: use food grade hydrogen peroxide...higher percentage, and it will bleach out in hours rather than days. But it can burn you, so wear gloves and eye/nose protection.
Thanks for this video appreciate it. Will use the what you did for my floor as well your a life saver 🙏
